Our difficulty is that remote locations like forest preserves and trailhead parking lots do not have a full street address to resolve. We'll play a little more with it this weekend.

My friend with a Tesla wanted to have me act as navigator on a road trip. He had me download the Tesla app and gave me access to his Tesla system.

Most apps on my phone recognize the Tesla app as a navigation app so tapping on an address in the address book for example will bring up the 'open with' dialog which lists Google maps, Locus, brouter, Waze etc as selections. Tesla app does not show up in the Locus navigation list. Can I manually add that option somehow?

I have also used the Locus 'share' option to send to another app and Tesla shows up there. And it sends the coordinates to the Tesla screen. But the Tesla head unit errors out and does not accept the coordinates that are being sent to it. My friend thinks that the Tesla search function does not accept coordinates, only addresses. That won't work for a parking area at a trailhead for example.

Have any other Locus users found ways to get Locus and the Tesla app to get along?

I have a question about the display of my downloaded LoMaps in the listing when I select the Add function.
My current downloaded maps show an icon in the upper right corner. A check mark, a circle w/arrows or a '-100%' in red. The check should be 'current', the circle should be 'update available'. But what does the red '-100%' icon indicate?

Troubles & Questions / Re: Automatic backup paused
January 19, 2023, 16:10:34
Locus 4.14.0. Samsung S22+, Android 13, OneUI 5.0.

I believe I have cured this issue on my Samsung phone and tablet. In the phone Settings/Apps dialog I have changed the 'battery' setting for Locus from the default 'Optimized' setting to 'Unrestricted'. My auto backups have successfully gone through without pausing since then.

I was having the same issue but suspected it might have been a phone setting instead of Locus.

I recently changed the setting for the Locus app 'battery' setting to 'unrestricted'. So far, the last two auto-backups have completed successfully. /fingers crossed. 😉

Troubles & Questions / Re: Automatic backup paused

I'm having an issue with auto backup getting 'paused' EVERY time. I suspect it is an issue with my phone versus Locus but who knows?

Locus shows my backups paused at 5:58 AM every single time. When I unpause it goes through right away.

I'm wondering if my phone won't allow it to run in the background or something. I have my phone set to auto go to Do Not Disturb from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM each day. But the backup pauses every day at 5:58. Seems like a suspicious coincidence.

Locus 4.13.2. Samsung S22+, Android 13, OneUI 5.0. I've checked a bunch of settings but haven't been able to rectify this issue.

Any ideas?

LM 4.6.1
Upgrading to a new phone, so I triggered a manual backup of everything before the upgrade. Backup set to go to Google drive folder. Process successful. But no new backup file is seen in the Google drive folder.  I do see the backup file inside the local Locus backup folder.

Auto Backup is set to Google drive path every 7 days. It's working because I can see the last 5 backups there. But new manual backup is not there.

Should not a manual forced backup be immediately uploaded to the cloud backup location? I was active on WiFi so it was not due to a 'WiFi only' setting.

Or did I do something wrong somewhere?

Maps / Re: Help with KMZ maps
October 21, 2021, 02:34:23
Ah, I just stumbled on the 'Map Items' menu option and I can load them from a directory on my phone.  And they survive a restart now.

Leads to another question though.  I made a folder in Locus/KMZ.  When Locus does it's auto backups, will it back these up, since the folder is within the Locus folder?

Maps / Help with KMZ maps
October 21, 2021, 02:03:57
So I took a jpg of a forest preserve map and then geocoded it in Google Earth.  Saved the place as a KMZ map.  This can be downloaded into a Garmin to show the trails and amenities in the forest preserve on the Garmin display.  I used to do this sometimes when the OSM maps do not show the trails in the preserve.

Since I only use Locus anymore for a few years now, I wanted to duplicate this in Locus.  I can import this same KMZ file into Locus and it shows up just fine on the Locus map screen, overlaid on the OSM map.  Perfect!  See the screenshots.

But when I restart Locus, it's gone and I have to import it again.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong with this process.  I tried the Screen Content /  Map Overlay option but it does not give the option to browse the files on my phone.  So how do I get these KMZ overlays to "stick" after importing?

When I create a waypoint in LM4, I get a wide variety of waypoint icons to choose from. This makes it easy to visually determine which is which while viewing the map.

With geocaches, no matter if I import a GPX with child waypoints or create a child waypoint myself, the selection of map icons is limited to just a couple and they are pretty small and don't show up on the map as well.

I understand that the waypoint TYPE has to be limited to those types that are supported by geocaching.com, but since the icons themselves do not get included with an exported GPX, can we get access to the full list of icons when creating child waypoints?

Troubles & Questions / Re: Locus on my Laptop
June 29, 2021, 03:43:37
It works in landscape and can be stretched to full width.  It maintains the phone aspect ratio so it doesn't quite fill the screen vertically.  A little fun to play with but doesn't provide much in terms of versatility.

Troubles & Questions / Locus on my Laptop
June 25, 2021, 17:21:34
Well, this is sort of fun.  Not sure of the value with this, but it's fun nevertheless.
Locus cannot access my laptop hard drive directly, which might be useful.
Currently, Win10 has a "your phone" app and Samsung phones have the companion app.
This is supposed to be released for all phones with Win11.

Troubles & Questions / LM4 - no startup screen
April 15, 2021, 16:33:58
So I'm a recent upgrader to LM4 from LMPro. Really liking the extra features, especially the cloud sync between my tablet and phone. V4.0.2 on both devices. But I noticed a difference between the two when starting up.

On my phone, I get the customary "Initializing Locus" screen as shown in the attached. On my tablet, that screen does not show on startup. It just goes right to the map display. Much faster! Is the tablet not doing something at startup that it should? Or could I turn that off on my phone to make the startup faster?

Phone: Galaxy S20, Android 11, one UI 3.1
Tablet: Galaxy Tab S3, Android 9, one UI 1.1

I just got started with 4.0.2 and have some questions and/or observations.

Using on both my phone and tablet.

I create a list and populate it with waypoints.
The list syncs to my other device but the setting on the waypoints on the second device is "hide all" even though they were set to "display all" on the originating device.

Yes, that is correct.
Viewing a geocache, tap the icon in the upper right corner of the screen, select add New Waypoint and it takes 5 or more seconds to save after I tap the check mark.  This is new behavior.

If I am just on the map screen and hit the + icon to add a waypoint, it saves instantly.

I did have about 40 lists of geocaches, but most are small, perhaps 20-30 points each. I deleted all but 10 or so and it makes no difference to this.
