Troubles & Questions / Questions about POIs
August 22, 2021, 11:10:05
Hi,
on my last holiday I used Locus a lot (as always) and came across a few issues with POIs.
On my map (in this case the North Italy LoMaps Map) with the "Hike and Bike" theme I can see certain POIs, depending on the zoom level (Bus Stations, toilets, viewpoints etc.) - see attached screenshot.
These POIs are always visible and not just when I use the point of interest search function. As soon as I scroll around on the map it takes a second and these POIs show up.
I use these POIs a lot, so i definitely want to keep them.
So here are my questions:
1) Where can I decide which POIs I want to see? Let´s say I don´t want to see the train stations, where can I switch that off or switch others on?
2) The POIs often overlap other writing, especially town names (see screenshot). This can be very annyoing, so is it possible to change the layers and have them behind the layer of the town name tags? Or is there a way to easily turn off all POIs to read the tags and then turn them on again?
3) Sometimes (I have not found any pattern yet) locus suddenly stops showing these POIs and I have to completely close locus and start it again to see the POIs again. Sometimes I have to do this repeatedly, before the POIs start showing again. Is this a known bug? It´s a bit annoying, especially when I have a track recording running which I have to stop to close locus completely.

Troubles & Questions / Incorrect altitude data
June 06, 2021, 17:24:23
Hi,
on a recent hike I came across some incorrect altitude data in the map contour lines and also in the srtm data. I noticed this because according to the map the path that we were on should have dropped from around 400m altitude to around 230m within a distance if 100m - which would have been a pretty steep drop. But in reality this was not the case.
When we got home I had a closer look and the first thing I did was to update the map, as it had been 4 years old. But the new map contains the same mistake.
I have also set locus to always display the altutide in the screen center, which was also wrong. So i renamed the srtm folder and re-downloaded the srtm files (via map download and also via the point details screen) - again, the altitude was still wrong.
So I downloaded openandromaps map of that region and I was surprised to see, that the contour lines in the openandromaps where correct.
I have attached two screenshots - the first screenshot shows the correct contour lines (openandro map) and the second shows the incorrect contour lines (locus map). The altitude info (red number in the center) is incorrect on both screenshots, as it´s using the srtm data which is also incorrect.
So I was wondering if this might also apply to other regions and why openandromaps has the correct data, even though both maps are based on openstreetmap data?

Maps / Increase map resolution
July 02, 2019, 20:52:35
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way of increasing the map resolution by map type or for individual maps.
Because of the screen resolution on my phone all online maps and downloaded (non vector) maps have tiny writing, so I always use the "increase map resolution" quick button. It´s great to have that, but for me it would make more sense to just have a setting that always increases the map resolution when a raster map is loaded - or at least a way of setting this in the map options.
I also use a raster map as my global map, as it works much better (loads faster and the city names are shown properly). So every time I zoom out I can´t read anything until I use the quick button.
Am I just missing some obvious setting or is this not implemented yet?

Free chat / Huawei P20 Pro with Locus
June 13, 2018, 18:38:23
Hi,
I´m thinking about buying a Huawei P20 Pro, but one of my main criterias would be that the GPS runs smoothly. So if anyone here is already using a P20 Pro I´d be very grateful if you could answer a few questions:
1) How good is the GPS accuracy?
2) Does the P20 Pro support Galileo? I googled this one and found very contradictory statements.
3) Any known GPS / Locus issues with the P20 Pro?

Hi,
is there any way to change the routing source (e.g. Brouter to Mapquest) from within the route planner or is it really necessary to go through the main menu? I was sure that this was possible at some point, but can´t find it anywhere in the route planner now.

Other features / New Presets feature
April 09, 2017, 21:41:38
Hi,
now that the weather is starting to get better, Locus gets used more again as well.
So I finally sat down and had a proper look at the new presets feature - and it´s just awesome!
One click and i´m in cycling mode - with my cycling dashboard, map rotation and lots of other settings that are useful when biking. Another click and I´m back in hiking mode. Thanks a lot for this feature!
I know it´s still in beta status, but I´d like to ask for two more presets:
1) Hardware compass on / off - I prefer the hardware (magnetic) compass when hiking, but with map rotation on whilst riding the bike the GPS compass works better.
2) Track recording profile - Logically i´d want my hiking profile when i´m hiking and my biking profile when i´m cycling.

I know I can easily change those settings with a couple of clicks - but hey, it´s the whole point of the presets that I don´t have to anymore, isn´t it?

Keep up the great work!

Troubles & Questions / Locus Online Map Download
January 19, 2017, 12:07:01
Hi,
I have a couple of questions about download an online map (e.g. google maps).
I´m trying to download a larger map area in higher zoom levels, so the 10000 tile limit was reached and I can´t continue until tomorrow - which is fine for me, as I have plenty of time until I need the map.
So here are the questions:
1) How can I see that a map download is unfinished? When I check the Map details there is no mentioning of an incomplete map.
2) I would like to download another map (from a different source, e.g. OSM), but whenever I click on the "download" button I just get told that there is still an unfinished download (of course there is...) and I can only select "delete", "cancel" or "continue" . Does that mean I can´t download another map until the first download is finished, even if the other map is from a different source?

Hi,
I was wondering if it's somehow possible to use the "increase map resolution" setting only for tile maps.
I often switch between tile and vector maps and the tile maps (online or offline, mainly google maps) are too small to read. I then increase the map resolution in the advanced map settings and it works fine for the tile maps. But when i change back to vector maps everything is way too big.
So i was hoping that i could set the resolution just for tile maps or even per map but couldn't find anything. Even a quick way of changing the resolution from the side panel would be great.
Any ideas on how to do that?

Hi,
I have recently bought a pebble and I think it´s the perfect smartwatch to be comined with locus (long battery life, perfectly readable in bright sunlight, waterproof, hardware buttons,....) .
There are already a couple of useful apps that work together with locus.
But enough of that, here is my question:
I would like to get the pebble watch to vibrate when I receive a POI notification. Normally the watch vibrates whenever there is a new notification on the smartphone, but for some reason locus´ POI notification are an exception. Would it be possible to add an option to the POI alerts to receive a normal notification to the notification bar?
And is it somehow possible to create a POI notification without moving? Like that I could try a few things without leaving the sofa ;-)

Add-ons & Co-apps / Fieldnotes PRO
October 01, 2015, 14:44:43
Hi,
I have just installed the latest Update of Fieldnotes (from yesterday) and noted that there were a lot of changes listed with a [PRO] tag. Does that refer to having the Locus pro version or is there a fieldnotes PRO version too? I checked in the play store and within the fieldnotes addon, but couldn´t find a Pro version anywhere.
I am interested in some of the pro features, but couldn´t find them anywhere in the app.
I do, of course, have Locus pro installed.

Troubles & Questions / Track record button
September 27, 2015, 19:08:35
Hi,
I just did a longer bike tour today and had some trouble hitting the track record button on the side panel, as it is rather small.
I am sure that there used to be the possility to have a track record button at the bottom left (where the them changer button is). I searched through all the menus, but couldn´t find it anywhere.
Am I just imaging that there used t be a button? Would there be any other way of having a bigger Track record button, as that´s really the only button I need whilst I am biking.

Add-ons & Co-apps / Locus Fieldnotes Problem
September 08, 2014, 13:01:09
Hi,
I have just installed the latest Locus version and also the latest version of the fieldnotes addon.
I have a problem with the new addon though - if i want to edit a log by clicking on it, i only get a little message saying "Problem with loading log".
Uploading the fieldnote and also logging the visit works though.
I deleted the whole list and tried again, but the problem is still the same.
Other than that the addon seems to work well, but i don´t find the 3 buttons at the top very intuitive. It also took a minute until i understood what "select the old days" in the settings was supposed to mean.
And is there an option to automatically delete the fieldnotes after uploading them, like there was before the addon? I couldn´t find anything.

On my hike today I was playing around with the height information in Locus and got a bit confused.
I have the Locus GPS information displayed in the top bar (which includes height info) and I have the "dynamic altitude" setting activated, which shows the height information next to the crosshair (map center).
When the map center is the same as my current location, these two height values should be the same, but they are not - today the difference was around 50 meters.
My phone does not have a pressure sensor, so all values must be from GPS or a database (like the hgt files).
The map center height info must be from the .hgt files that i downloaded, as i only have that info (offline) in areas for which I have downloaded those. Am i right there?
But what is the basis for the info in the top bar? Because that value keeps fluctuating a lot, even when i don´t move.

I must say that the altitude manager is a bit confusing. Is there some explanation of it´s settings somewhere?
What is the difference between the Geoid and NMEA Correction?
Any experience on what delivers the most precise height info without a pressure sensor?

And another question - is there a better way yet to get the .hgt files than creating a point and filling in the height info? Is it possible to download the .hgt file for a whole region or country?

Edit: I found the manual for the altitude manager, but I am still nore sure about some of it... will have another look into it tomorrow, it´s too late now.

Hi,
I went on a bikeride yesterday and was surprised to see that my screen switched itself of after 30 seconds, although locus was running.
I checked the locus settings and was surprised to find that the "always screen on" was set to off, as i had set it to "on" ages ago.
The problem is that I can´t switch it back on. Every time I click on "always screen on" locus freezes and then crashes.
I have tried it several times now and rebooted the phone a few times but that didn´t help.
Is this a know bug in locus 2.13.0 or am i the only one with this problem?

Hi,
As the loading speed of vector maps is increasing with every update, I am now more and more tempted to use them. So far i was using mainly tile maps, as they load so much quicker. But the other thing that was and still is stopping me from using vector maps is the lack of details. They never seem to show the name of towns (often just the name of districts) and also the names of streets are often only shown at very high zoom levels.
Whenever i want to know the name of a town i find myself zooming in and out until i find a zoomlevel where the name is shown, but i have come across several towns now where it´s never shown.
I have tried the hiking and cycling theme as well as the openandromaps theme, but none of them is any good. I always go back to my tile maps, as they show much more details, even the name of hiking paths.
Am I the only one with this problem? Maybe there is some theme out there that gets it right and i have missed it?
From my understanding it´s the themes that control what is shown at which level and in what colour etc. or am i mistaken?
My preferred tile maps are OSM Hike and Bike and Outdooractive and I would love to have the same level of details on my Vector Maps.

Wishlist / Hillshade Overlay Offline?
June 20, 2013, 13:38:27
Hi,
I have just come across the Hike and Bike Hillshade Overlay Map and It blew my mind. The maps look so much better now, I can´t believe that it took so long to find this great option.
The only thing that i don´t understand is why I can´t download the hillshade "map". Or have i just overlooked something?
I always prefer to have everything offline for when i am abroad or in areas with bad network coverage.
Maybe someone here can help me with this?

Troubles & Questions / Upload Fieldnotes
June 03, 2013, 21:30:28
Hi,
I mainly use locus pro for geocaching and i love the fact that i can mark a cache as found whilst on the go and later upload the fieldnotes and fill in the log on the geoaching website.
Locus used to delete the fieldnotes after uploading them (the box for that is ticked), but it doesn´t anymore. So after uploading the fieldnotes i need to delete them by hand. I am not complaining, as deleting them doesn´t take long, but I am just surprised, that this feature, which used to work just fine, doesn´t work anymore.
Locus and all plugins are all up-to-date.

Wishlist / Center Map on finger tap
January 10, 2013, 18:52:40
Hi menion,
there is currently only one function that i am missing in locus:
I used to use a different map app before and loved the fact that i could click anywhere to center the map on that point. I find that a lot more practical when i want to center the map on a specific point (e.g. to place a Waypoint there or just to see the distance to that point). So i was wondering if you could maybe create an option to center the map on where you tap (or double tap)?
I am sure I wouldn´t be the only one to find this practical.

Troubles & Questions / Track Description Bug
January 10, 2013, 18:42:26
Hi,
I just updated to the latest version and was happy to see that some recommendations that i was going to make were already implemented. Some of them concerning the Track feature. It seems that now the name of the track is being saved correctly, but there is still an issue with the decription.
When u enter a description whilst saving the track for the first time, the description does not turn up when opening the track.
If you then edit the track and enter a description it stays.

Free chat / Changelog
January 10, 2013, 09:19:00
Hi,
I wasn´t sure where to post this, so i put it here.
It might just be me, but i like reading changelogs to see what has changed before Updating to a new Version, to see which features were added, which bugs were fixed and so on.
In the Appstore I can only get the changelog for the last version, but as this great app gets very regular Updates it can easily happen that i missed out on several Updates before installing the latest version.
There used to be a changelog post under Features / News, but that stops at Version 2.5.5. (August 2012)
Am I being blind and there is an up-to-date changelog somewhere else?
If not it would be great if the changelog could be updated.
