So there's no way using the old Locus which I still use?

If I understand correctly the new one would work (imstall, run, GPS positioning etc.) but some few features wouldn't.

Troubles & Questions / Locus without Google?
June 21, 2023, 15:39:48
Will any version of Locus work without the Google services?

Since totalitarism is on the rise I want to use a Google free phone.

Since Locus is my most used app and it could be a replacement for Google Maps then I would like to know if it needs the Google Services to work.

Would it for example work with Graphene OS?

Ok, we found the problem.

The map needed to be converted to UTM after calibrating (Edit - Fit coordinates - UTM) because it was in that projection.

Tried kmz and Google Earth its also flawed.
I did write an email to the creator of MapC2MapC64.

Maybe he knows whats the problem.

I'm not using Mapc2mapc for the calibration of maps, but did you try exporting to KML? This format may be really easily validated by comparing results in the Locus Map and Google Earth.

Hmmm I always followed a tutorial from your site, that's why I bought it years ago.

I tomorrow could try exporting it as kml if possible.

Isn't kml only for waypoints and such?

Hi!

I have calibrated maps before with old versions of Locus and MapC2MapC64.

I now did a fresh install of the latest version MapC2MapC64 and calibrated a tiff pictuure as map.

The source pictures are found here at the bottom of the page ("Karte Oberboden"
and "Karte Unterboden"):
https://www.thuenen.de/de/fachinstitute/waldoekosysteme/projekte/bodenschutz-und-waldzustand/projekte-bodenzustandserhebung/die-ph-werte-der-boeden-von-waeldern-und-landwirtschaftlichen-nutzflaechen-deutschlands

I did multiple calibration points around and in the center of Germany.
In MapC2MapC64 all looks fine but the overlay in Locus was not correctly alligned. I tried multiple times also tried using multiple file formats as export.

So I updated to the latest Locus 3 Version and it still is incorrect.

I did choose "Latitude / Longitude (plate carree) > WGS 84" in MapC2MapC64 as it said in a old manual for Locus might that be the problem maybe? - If so what should I Use?

As example I added pictures of my top left calibration point I used (the lower edge of the island of Sylt) which is completely correct in MapC2MapC64 but wrong in Locus which shouldnt happen directly on the calibration point!

Overlay error in Locus:

Correctly aligned in MapC2MapC64:

No idea why for some reason I just coul add the maps normally without having changed anything. Same as with the first problem where he didn't even show the files at all. Just disappeared for no reason.

Anyhow. Works for me now but something is not quite right here....

Ok, that might be a workable idea, thanks!

You are funny!
No I won't reset my hundreds of settings!

If this is a bug it has to be fixed insted me resetting my prefs and needing forever to set up all again, possibly missing half of my settings!
#10
Thanks I already read this before but it doesn't help me.

I'm pretty sure that's a bug importing old settings to a new version ir with the default folder.

Initially I could not even remove the old maps!

I also wonder why I the day before did not see any maps on my SD when klicking +
And today suddenly I see them but can't add them?!
#12
I did check online and supposedly this message appears if you try to add a folder which is INSIDE your already in the settings defined default maps folder.

But it's not in my case.

My default maps folder is in the internal storage (default position, did reset it) and my map I try to add is in a subfolder on my SD card.

Might this be a bug since I had this folder defined as maps folder previously (before I did reset the path)?

Menoin?

Correct, the new Android (S9 versus ancient S4 version) now uses the SD card ID as part of the path.
All old map references in Locus are invalid. Take them out.
Then start all over again by traversing from the top folder (above internal/external, should be like /storage), so you will have the right path name for Locus included.

Ok, for example r some reason I now could remove them.

But if I click on the + to add the maps back I get "This path is not allowed"

I had the idea as well but I couldn't find where to remove the maps folder setting.

It automatically shows maps in my old folder but I can't change the folder.

What exactly do I need to do?
