I want to present you my theme "Tapiola".
You can download it here (https://github.com/TapioOfTapiola/oam_theme_tapiola/releases/latest).
Tapiola is 100% tested with regional Mapsforge v5 maps (Germany->Nordrhein-Westfalen) from Openandromaps.org (https://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/countrys-and-regions). Bigger maps (e.g., whole Germany) have a few less details included on certain zoom levels, but you probably won't notice it.
It also works with Lomaps V4+, but there are definitely issues.
The theme is a fork of the awesome Settler theme (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=8393.0) from Andrey, but slowly and steadily I made many changes and moved away from it.
My main ideas/goals were:
- Change colors to my preference
- City/town names not dependend on priorities at all. They will show up if zoom level allows it. Some names may overlap - but IMO it is important. A good overview is crucial for me. This way a was able to use smaller overview maps from OAM (https://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/general-maps).
- City names following priorities were under risk of not being displayed. It happened that they were not displayed because a river had preference.
- Good visibility of hiking and cycling networks. Reasonable display of their names (like "X1"). Hiking color on one side of road, cycling on other, so both visible usually.
- Some themes show lines at some zoom levels due to few pixels of overlapping, I got rid of that.
- There's also some coding of track quality via display of lines on paths (OSM has a grade1-grade5 system) - more lines=less quality. 0 to 2 lines. Short+long line=Undefined. Zoom more in to see them.
- I reworked the display of road names, especially motorways, primary and secondary roads.
- In the themes options, I have made some changes compared to the Settler heritage. I combined some options.
- Less focus on hilltops compared with Settler.
- Benches, picnic tables, shelters, viewpoints have high prio and are drawn later, on top of other stuff - I'm a hiker.
- Parking has some over-the-top exaggeration. Many parkings are displayed. May change that.
- After all, you can turn on/off most things in theme options.
- I included OSMC hiking node icons (shameless copy/paste from John, his awesome Voluntary Theme (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=2915.0)) but I never really liked those. May remove them at some point.
Sorry, time is an issue, no pdf/html legend or fancy theme icon yet.
Here's a few notes as for the legend:
- Motorway: blue, Trunk: blue-greenish
- Primary road darker orange, secondary/tertiary getting lighter.
- White roads are asphalt, light brown more what you find in forests, less quality the more lines are on it (0-2 lines).
- Hiking routes are red, less important ones are interrupted lines. Cycling=blue, MTB=purple.
Download:
https://github.com/TapioOfTapiola/oam_theme_tapiola/releases/latest
Installation:
1. Download the zip file
2. Copy (don't unpack!) it into Android/[data|media]/menion.android.locus/MapsVector/_themes/
Just walk through the different zoom levels and see if it can help you. Have fun!
A few screenshots attached:
1. An overview map, I balanced the theme starting from Zoom level 8.
2. Notice the display of suburbs (can be turned off) for best overview but still no distraction
3. Display of hiking (red) and cycling (blueish) networks.
Very clear theme ... like it and will check it on next trip. 😎👍
Thanks Tapio, I will test.
Andrey's Settler theme is really awesome, theme is great and visual pleasuring, xml is very clean and a good starting point.
1st try: NRW West-MSland, maybe some towns should already appear at ZL 11, currently start to appear at 12.
Hi Tapio. Would it be possible to create a Quick install like Andrew at Voluntary? When I give the Tapiola.zip to the Android/Media folder ... Mapsvector/_Themes, my locus doesn't see him.

Tapio's zip alone works like a charm.
Download, click (in a file manager), select Locus as handler, wait some seconds until Locus has created its internal extract, enjoy!

Münsterland? Yes, not too many villages there and they are very distinct. Problem is with areas which have numerous villages, e.g. see Gummersbach.
Will add to ZL 11, but with priorities, so in crowded areas not all village names show up on that ZL. I don't like priorities with town/village etc. names too much, because I really want to see "all" settlements, if possible. Easily be able to find a settlement in overview maps is a goal.
Re: @Josef I guess this requires some kind of special URL? Cannot do this because I use Github. But the zip should work with LM4, if placed correctly.

Does not work. Locus will not extract it. If I extract it by myself, it will not be recognized. Tested on 3 devices.
@Tom:
- where does the download go to?
- when you click, you can chose Locus, but Locus does nothing?
- where does your Locus mapsVector folder (setting) reside?

Do you use LM4? Here if I use "open with... LM4" on the zip file as recommended by Michael, LM4 detects it as a theme and subsequently copies the zip to the right place.

standard android download directory on internal SD card

Locus comes with the import diaolog posted by tapio, claims "succesfull", but theme is not shown and can´t be selected. Theme stays unzipped in theme directory. Manual unzipping gives same result - theme not installed.
Quote from: michaelbechtold on June 27, 2023, 22:36:38- where does your Locus mapsVector folder (setting) reside?
Private directory under Android 11.
Looks valid.
Locus offers themes based on the type of map you have selected as active map.
These new themes like Tapio's all work with MapsForge 4+
If you should still have old LoMaps or VERY old OAM, then this new theme is not offered.
Besides above I currently have no other idea re. root cause.
v1.1.9
- Villages display on lower zoom, ZL11
- Minor MTB track changes
Guys, I am interested in your opinion on a change, the path (road!) at 51.3372,7.953
I was expecting some kind of dirt road, like those (often) brown-white foot paths. Didn't check properly before I was there. OK, OAM shows me it's surface:asphalt and smoothness excellent. Reality: See attachment. A very good road. Cars not allowed.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/323041161#map=15/51.3273/7.9464
I decided to display as a white road (because of surface:paved|asphalt) - it's in attached Tapiola.
Appropriate?
Please compare with other themes.
@tapio - I'm just curious - why does www.openstreetmap.org display this sealed road as a dashed blue line? Because highway=path? Your decision seems right.
Yes I think paths are rendered as dashed all around, here it felt misleading for me.
And it takes the bicycle designation into account, hence blue.
v1.2.0
- Minor changes
- Paths (usually dashed lines) with asphalt/paved/concrete drawn like streets. With blue lines.
v1.2.1
- Unified some path colors and sizes
- Better visibility of private/restricted ways (red instead of grey lines)
- Optional display of access restrictions
- Fix: paths/footways which weren't drawn
Thank you. I had one nice hike with it already. Easy on the eyes. Shortly I will use it in the hopefully sunny Alps.
In the startpost you write: LM4 required but here with classic 3.68.2 it works great too. Installation is easy too. Download the zip file, tap on it and Classic opens with the usual questions and installs it.

Both LM3 and LM4 can use the latest OAM maps. Obviously you get a better result with a theme designed for OAM.
Both LM3 and LM4 can display the latest Lomaps, using the same renderer and themes as for OAM maps, though once again you get best results with a theme designed for Lomaps or for both OAM maps and Lomaps.
Both LM3 and LM4 can display older Lomaps with Locus's own renderer. Themes have to be designed for older Lomaps or they won't show on the theme selector.
I reverted a track size change which does not make 100% sense. Tracks, grade1-grade5, are displayed wider than small roads. You may notice it if they connect.
It's much needed IMO, because of the tracks visibility in forests. It's much better there.
Lots of fiddling with the tiny things 😊
v1.2.2
- Unification of hiking + cycling network styles. Like hiking, cycling networks are now split into more and less important ones. Dashed lines on the less important networks.
v1.2.3
- Allow to toggle road names
- Windmill ZL, fix
- Parking area not displayed, fix
All power to the user 😀 You can have your map look like in the screenshot, if you need that (no city- and road names).
v1.2.4
- Fixed non-round street endings
- Improved overlapping track/byway which looked like being bridges
- Code/Comment cleanup
- Waterways drain/ditch/stream lines=cubic
- Private parking icon red-ish
Changed icon can only be seen after Locus cache delete (Locus settings).

Tendency is: No. But I am not sure about the consequences. I think there may be footways/cycleways close to rivers, which then aren't aligned perfectly, or worse, get hidden below the river.
EDIT: A clear no. Author of Voluntary theme will undo such changes for rivers. Non-connected parts may happen, or bridges at the wrong place.

Hi Tapio,
First, I would thank you for this theme, which I use now quite often. It is very clear.
Second, I have a question, surely off topic, as same behaviour is happening with all theme. Don't hesitate to tell me and I will open a new topic ;)
I discovered a place where there is a fountain (in real), and despite the search I can do in Locus, enabling everything in themes, or search in points (online or offline) nothing is found nor displayed on map. But information is there in OSM (I use Openandromap for France).
It is this fountain :

Download latest xml https://github.com/tortuosit/oam_theme_tapiola/blob/main/Tapiola.xml and replace the one in the zip. Quick and dirty fix. Idk why at some point it doubles the icon.
Turn "Spring, water" on in theme options.
Interesting. It's because themes include k="man_made" v="water_well". But not what you noticed: k="amenity" v="watering_place".
Hi Tapio .
Thanks for adding "watering place" to the theme. I only know of one other theme that shows it.
One suggestion, it is shown from zoom level 17, could it be shown from a lower zoom level?

Hello.
The icon you use for amenity: watering_place is the same as amenity:fountain and can be confusing because they are two different types.

Usually a POI, these are animal drinking troughs.

An example of how amenity:watering_place is displayed in Magellan OpenMaps themeIMG_20230728_194420.jpg
I've created another icon for watering_place.
I allowed turning off roads and railways . So we can exclusively display whatever we wish. Why? Analysis purposes maybe. Or because we can! See screenshot with only railway and only hiking/cycling routes.
Changes are uploaded, but not in the release yet.
v1.2.6
- Renamed "Power lines" category to "Electricity". Included wind turbines.
- Roads and railways can be turned off.
- New icon for watering_place (Requires delete cache in Locus settings).
I think Wind Turbines are currently only in Lomaps, didn't check yet, if maybe they're in OAM under a different name.
If anyone has experience with emoji representation in text files, I'm all ears. Quickedit+ now slaughtered it after I included them. It picked Windows-1252 encoding and now see screenshots...
You have to change encoding to utf8 before saving. It's under the triple dot menu on the top right.
I think your situation is probably recoverable - I had a similar problem with a custom map source file in Locus.

Edit2: Set "default encoding" to utf8 in settings, instead of auto detect. Works.
I've added emojis to the latest release.
v1.2.7
- Menu reorganisation
- POI are included in basic profile
- Hide (place:locality) if suburbs are hidden
- Color correction: primary_link, tertiary roads.
- Access restriction indicators on roads were missing, fixed.
Hi Tapio. I really like your theme.
Could it be included to be visible man_made:survey_point?

IMG_20230817_170610.jpg
Will check it. Needs to be part of OAM, needs an svg icon (and me on PC) etc.
Igor Magellan's TOTM theme shows them in OAM with an icon similar to a "Peak".
v1.2.8
- Fading out building color when zooming out, helps for more distinct hike/cycle networks
- Hiking nodes only shown together with hiking network
- Option "Draw house numbers earlier"
- Added man_made:survey_point
- Road network off - only hide main roads
- Optimizations
House numbers earlier ("sooner"?): ZL16 onwards. See screenshot. You typically want to turn it off.
v1.2.9
- Fixed hiking relations priority
- Fine tuning of building colors
- Corrections to layouts
- Toggle forest/gras/crops patterns, allowing for a cleaner look
- Added "misc" category
- Small fixes
So there's three layouts in the theme I didn't mention before due to problems.
"Basic features" shows almost all POI icons and lets you control some reasonable rest.
"Basic nopoi" doesn't display any POI icons. Useful, if e. g. you only want to use LoPoi.
"All features" - Feature overload.
The forest/gras/crops is just one piece of the puzzle, when it comes to keep the theme free from obstructions, e. g. when you display and compare multiple tracks.
v1.3.0
E.g., removed the fading of schools/hospital which now always appear blue (if option for special building types is turned on).
Not much progress because I'm quite fine with the theme rn. I should add a fancy icon and a legend though... 🥴
close to perfection ;-)
v1.3.1
- Size increase of oneway arrows
- Bugfix military area
- Military area olive green overlay and setting
Quote from: Andrew Heard on October 11, 2023, 08:02:54One suggestion is to distinguish the road/ track surface eg. between sealed & unsealed.
Hi Andrew, let's please discuss this here. OK, I looked at your test position at -42.51336, 147.64366 in Tasmania.
There I don't see the need to check for road surfaces...? At least for Germany roads k=highway v=primary/secondary/tertiary (in my theme from yellow to dark orange) already imply they will be an asphalt road. Do you think an extra layer, like a dashed line is useful and necessary?
Smaller roads/paths may be in need of your idea. If you have an example position, let me know.
Ok, experiments... the problem is consistency. 51.324,7.98681 in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
Screenshot has mostly Highway:Residential, but road surface is only defined for some of them... (asphalt, the ones with blue lines).
Attached xml line 1929+
Does it make sense stiill? Please test in your area. I can add another option "Sealed road indicators" and default it to off.
And if so, do you really think those indicators should be on higher level roads, (highway:primary etc)?
I think it shouldn't be used in residential areas. I.e. just used for v="track|byway|road|path|unclassified"

@tapio - it's difficult for me to reply adequately while away cycling in Cyprus sorry. But at the position you mention it is absolutely the case that the road surface changes from sealed to unsealed but most themes don't show any different, or only when zoomed in very close. If planning a 50km route for example it's often not convenient to zoom in & check every section of the route to confirm the laden cycle tourist won't be instructed onto some poor surface.
If the OSM editor has not bothered to define the surface then the theme can't tell. And if the surface is unsealed then...

Yes, I'm just not 100% fine with the dashed lines. May change. I wish with mapsforge I could paint e.g. zigzag lines.
Yes, re:"Tapio", Forest is where I feel at home... and Tapiola/Sibelius is one of my most favourite pieces of music.
v1.3.2
- Track grade codes now as a setting
- Indicators for unpaved roads (new setting)
Track grades, see screenshot. OSM grades go from 1 to 5. 1=no marker, 2-3=one marker, 4=two markers, 5=three markers.
@tapio - theme settings:
1) colored schools? not just "schools"?
2) gras --> grass
Thx - Educational and hospital buildings get a distinct color here, blue. A rather unnecessary option. Just "Schools" sounds like the building is not displayed if unchecked.

@tapio on a recent cycle tour through Cyprus I notice your theme is not working properly at a high zoom level in the Cyprus republic capital of Nicosia when using Open Andro Map. You can observe the map with your theme has details within a triangle that are correct, then outside that triangle only POI are displayed. Quite strange. OS Map and LM City themes (also Voluntary although not attached) are all working correctly, so 95% sure it is theme related. @tapio - in comparing your & Karl Chicks (for example) latest themes, I notice an issue with yours with our local very long city bridge around https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=19/-42.86549/147.33794, in which the cycle-and-foot-path on both sides of the bridge are not correctly rendered with your theme on the south side. It is correct on the north side - continuous blue. I can't see from the OSM editor why your theme stops the correct blue render and changes to a hollow render below:
tapio.jpg
Karls (with cycle emphasis on):
kc.jpg
I will look at it. What I instantly see is, Karl draws two lines, left and right from roads. I draw one - hiking relations are drawn on the other.
I think it's this: depending how mappers draw the ways, the relations sometimes interrupt and skip to the other side. So what we see may be a drawback from using an offset to only one side of the way. Sigh. If I draw it later it would appear on top of the main road. EDIT: which it usually does and should to. I will find it. A priority issue maybe.
What do you think about the coloring of residential area town masses? Was all grey before. This way you can easily distinguish between residential areas (pink) and industrial (grey). Also note, I removed residential roads from ZL12.
Changed bridleways to ochre on transparent white.

@Tapio - no, it's more complex for this bridge. Those are two completely separate/ individually mapped cycleways/ footpaths on each side of the bridge. Yes OSM has the provision/ shortcut for showing footpaths alongside a road, but this bridge is not mapped in OSM like that.

IDK how to get the position out of it. Easiest for me would be a decimal lat,lon tuple or a pluscode, thx. EDIT: OK, got the position now, my browser didn't refresh the map part..
Coloring of towns, I don't like that pink too much, I'll see.
Hi Tapio,
I am wondering how in your theme you get icons to appear in the stylemenu?
Attached is comparison of mine and all other themes vs your theme.
Would love to be able to use icons too...
UPDATE, I figured it out, you're using unicodes. So limited to what is built in...
Just use Emojis. xml has to be saved as utf-8.
Those icons are displayed correctly in my Windows text editor (Sublime Text) and even good ol' Notepad! You could just do a copy/paste between XML files. Must be unicode characters, so need to determine the alt code, or as @tapio says...
v1.3.6 (accidentally skipped 1.3.5 😂)
- Fine tuning to city/suburb name sizes
- Slight pink coloring for residential area town masses
- No more residential roads in zoom level 12
- Some fixes to width of mtb routes
- Several small fixes
@AndrewHeard haven't yet looked to that cycle relations issue, but will do.
v1.3.7
- Improvements in visibility of hiking/cycling relations in lowest zooms
- Improvement in visibility primary..tertiary roads
- Fixed a bug where borders of major roads were overpainted by minor paths asphalt layer. Resulting in reduced visibility because their black border wasn't visible.
The last one is a bit dangerous, I changed paint order for a bigger block, but lack overview on my smartphone. Need to look at the bigger code image on my computer at some point. All those tons of road/path code layers are hard to deal with on a small screen.
Still haven't touched the Andrew issue. 😩
Thanks for the implementation of the SAC Scale colors.
Would it be possible to set the colors like the FzOAM Theme does?

I will have a look.
There's some kind of green tint on the second screenshot, protected areas turned on? Looks like that semi-transparent layer should be painted below roads etc.
@Saturo, Tapiola and FzOAM both use that german coding, I just mix colors to have a code for all 5 levels.
Tapiola: t1=blue (not used), t2=blue/red, t3=red, t4=red/black, t5=black
Fz: t1+t2=blue, t3=red, t4/t5 didn't look.
I think it's OK the way I do it. Why do you think it's not?

Those are SAC1 and I remember now, I used a super thin line there, you see it in your screenshot. Reason: SAC1 is unfortunately used by mappers in flat, even urban areas at times. There the underlying path is of higher interest.
I hope it's immediately clear what this is about.

No release yet, but changes in https://raw.githubusercontent.com/TapioOfTapiola/oam_theme_tapiola/main/Tapiola.xml
@Andrew, Re: Hobart bridge.
The cycleway is painted at the right place. But there's 3 relations (togglable in my theme via "Cycling network"). One on bridge center, one on both cycleways.
Problem: I display them with an offset, because in the theme hiking relations are on one side, cycling in other side of roads. I want to keep this system. In case of this bridge it gets a bit messy.
Screenshots, without relations, with offset, without offset.
This can only be solved by centering the relations, but then displaying hiking + cycling at the same time is difficult. Need to think about it.
EDIT: Nah, it should be OK. Offset only a thing in high zooms. I have tamed them. Please try latest release. I like it now.
Btw, it was a full line by accident. Now it's striped (rcn|lcn|ocn), full=icn/ncn
v1.3.8
- Visibility cycling route captions
- Dependency markers in menu
- Visibility industrial area captions
- Industrial area captions part of suburb name display
- Fine tuned hiking/cycling relation offsets
"Dependency markers": without the above parent option checked, the child option will not display.
Unfortunately I still have issues with that test bridge. Theme displayed on dashboard at top/left corner. All relevant theme tick boxes are ticked.
Screenshot_2023-12-24-08-18-59.jpeg
Hi Andrew, I can't change it, it's specific and due to the way the mappers have drawn the bridge plus my offset.
The equivalent of my striped line in Johns theme is the semi transparent white line on the center of the bridge.
If we center the line you won't see a problem. But adding an offset you can see, there is a short part appearing in the south. While in the north there is a longer line, over the whole bridge.
Quote from: Tapio on December 24, 2023, 13:44:06it's specific and due to the way the mappers have drawn the bridge
@Tapio - that's OK - it was kind of you to attempt. Is there some problem with how the bridge ways are described? It was me that added the north side footpath/ cycleway, with some nervousness, being alongside a major highway, but maybe it can be improved.

Hmm. It looks different on my LM4, see attachments. On my smartphone, this overlay is already barely visible in forest areas.
I can add a border around protected areas, but that will also result in some unwanted lines (renderer problem).
Ok. Since LM4 is the future, better leave it at that. The border in the bottom shot is helpfull but not preferable for me if it brings the renderer lines at the top shot zoomfactor.
I tried my phone's color settings but that dit not help.
I am aware of this setting now and more alert, so no further problem with it. I'll add two shots from a nearby wet moor area at home. There you see that the difference is much smaller, nearly too small.
With and without protected area's setting. The greener one has the setting on.

@tapio - suggestion - given your theme is for cyclists, optionally display bike parking as POI? Attached is map around OSM node https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/6804728475. Maybe I have missed a theme setting? Online LM route planner correctly displays the bike park @ https://web.locusmap.app/en/?lat=-42.883736&lng=147.333798&z=19&map=hikeBike (although it is tiny, nearly invisible), as does online bikerouter @ https://brouter.m11n.de/#map=19/-42.88322/147.33309/standard.
A quick test showed me that amenity=bicycle_parking is not included in OAM...

that's a shame (weird) isn't it - the one time I want to find bike parking in a bike-friendly GPS app, and I luck out ;-( Thanks for trying.
My apologies @tapio (so many ways in Locus to do things) - as mentioned elsewhere I can instead search LoPoints(offline) > Hiking & Cycling > Bicycle parking. It works. Although as general comment, the LoPoints unfortunately blend in very well in this use-case, with the overall clutter of a map, so nearly impossible to see. There could be a "high contrast" set of icons for temporary searched LoPoints.
I've moved the discussion back from https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7000.msg74312#msg74312.
Quote from: Tapio on January 19, 2024, 11:06:03You probably know this is possible in Tapiola ("Basic features without POI" has this use case in mind).
@Tapio - to be honest, I'd forgotten, as your "all features" theme is "just" part of my "tapio" preset. Your "basic" is cleaner than LM road, so I've now adopted it as my theme for my "simple" preset, although it could be even simpler. I may investigate later...
Quote from: Tapio on January 19, 2024, 11:06:03And I had a related suggestion, but IIRC Menion disagreed: Add Offline/Online Lopoi setting to presets. Because then you can easily a) turn on the theme (which displays no poi at all) + b) turn on lopoi.

@tapio - I've created a simple theme so that temporary LoPoints are more visible, and background "clutter" is avoided. Gee - I didn't realize how complicated these themes are. How are they modified? Some special theme editor? It is so tedious & error prone using a plain text editor.
I can only speak for myself.
Most changes I do on Android, with QuickEdit+. I make edits on an extra file /_themes/Tapiola.xml, which I then copy (Totalcmd) into /_themes/Tapiola.zip/Tapiola/Tapiola.xml - then re-apply theme in Locus for testing.
On PC, far better overview, code folding etc. I use (MS Visual Studio) Codium. Sometimes PSPad. I copy the xml with Totalcmd/Android (accessing a Windows share) into the zip file.
No, no specific theme editor.
Yes. Every syntax error results in a blank display. Reminds me of my Perl job years ago. Syntax error results in http/500, internal server error.

- XML validity fixes

@Tapio - yes, bike parking was my original reason to pursue this topic; I'm using OAM Australia-Tasmania from 2021/11/28. My theme doesn't reference any SVG. As suggested elsewhere after my original question, the POI come from doing LoPoints(offline) > Hiking & Cycling > Bicycle parking > tap icon top RHS (100)

- Later display of some POI captions
- natural:hedge and natural:tree_row design shamelessly copied from Voluntary UK theme of John Percy
- Rework and xml improvement "Road network"
- "All features" menu change

Indeed, always tinkering... Fortunately the "All features" stylemenu plus Locus presets justifies to add MANY options. To be fair, this idea here is from the 4Umaps theme (it's in OAM forum).
New idea, a higher map gamma (it's actually a semi-transparent layer) - allowing for better visibility of Locus tracks.
v1.4.1
- Adjusted defaults to being useful
- Pipeline fix
- Stylemenu renaming; requires you to reconfigure the theme in LMaps presets
- Finetune MTB and Cycling relations for better coexistence.
- Added a semi transparent white layer ("Map Gamma") which may help visibility of map apps tracks.
Latest xml allows hiding of minor waterways like ditches etc. - in some areas this can help spotting paths and tracks. See screenshots. It's just a helper, I'm aware the bridges are still there.
v1.4.2
- Allow hiding of minor waterways like ditches
- Minor fixes

I'm thinking about more transparent hiking/cycling/mtb routes. When hiking, I want to see them. But less transparent, they distracted me from the current track.
Hi Tapio. As an option? There appear mainly 2 use cases - planning route/ following route. When cycle route planning I want to see the routes with maximum clarity, especially in built-up areas. When following the route I generally/ often hide most theme aspects anyway.
Yes, option, same use cases as you, except that now I'd like to see slight indication of Hiking/cycling routes when outside. Currently I'm having it in a separate plugin instance bc no time
Tapiola v.1.4.3
- Added options [TRSP] for more transparent routes to All Settings. Use either these OR the original ones, since they stack up.
"Option overload"... If a thematic section is justified, I may put the new route style in there.

It is working. Thanks.
I guess that blue bars perpendicular to the path mean "restricted access to".... But is it only for cycle?
I see elsewhere that red bars seem to mean "private". Am I right?
Other colors with a specific meaninig?
😊
PS : I checked other locations for cycle restrictions, it is working as well with blue bars.
Hi, red are generally access = private, restricted etc. - Should probably be respected by hikers and cyclists.
Yes, blue is restrictions only for bicycle. Color may change a bit but will be blue.
It's by far not perfect, I'm not yet handling overlapping cases and all kinds of tags. Will properly review the cide. Elevate is more sophisticated there.
There's an interesting "political" aspect to restrictions "foot=no", I've read discussions about it. The german OSM community is master @ discussing at biblical length.
Eg. paths in forests where mtb cyclists don't want hikers, thus put foot=no into osm.

In LM https://web.locusmap.app/en/?lat=48.642633&lng=6.261931&z=19&map=hikeBike the route is marked V52.
Also V52 with https://brouter.m11n.de/#map=18/48.64237/6.26169/CyclOSM
However in LM Android with your OS Map themes the route is marked "PAN", which means "Paneuropa route".
20240912-082819-.jpg
The OSM meta data https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit#map=18/48.644124/6.273000 shows the path as a part of feature "bicycle route" with route# V52 & name "V52 - Veloroute 52 - Laneuveville to Maixe" and has 2 relations with "Paneuropa route".
20240912-082247-OpenStreetMap - Vivaldi.jpg
The label V52 for the online maps seem a more useful description than "PAN" so I am wondering whether there is anyway to displayed the former rather than the latter. Then online & offline are also more consistent.
cheers, Andrew
