Hi balloni, could you describe your question a more detailed?

For example what is the source of your loaded Cache (GPX/PQ, online via Locus)? Are you online or offline while opening the Cache listing? Where exactely do you want a notification of that there are images present?
If being online, images are loaded automatically after opening a Cache for viewing in Locus. If offline, there are placeholders for images on the listing-page, as well as on the image-page. If the source has been GPX/PQ, Locus firstly doesn't know about attached (Spoiler-) images at all before applying GC-Offlinizer or "Update Geocache" command of Locus after import.

In my personal use case (where I load most of the Caches as GPX/PQ), I always start GC-offlinizer after I imported the Caches (with option "Download all images via Live API" ON). After that I'm sure I've all images for offline use in the field with me.

Hi Sonny,
Thanks for asking. When I import geocaches online via .gpx, PQ, or directly with Locus using the GC code, I unfortunately can't recognize links to images or spoiler images included in the listing; images included in the listing are automatically loaded and saved when viewed.
Running the Offlinizer is generally very time-consuming, especially since the saved images are deleted after 2 months of inactivity.
When I'm out in the field, I'm often without an internet connection... and have no way to load the images.
For me, a notification in the listing preview indicating which linked images exist but haven't been loaded yet would be very helpful.

I'm aware that GPX and PQ files don't contain any information about these images.

Hi Balloni, so your usecase is quite identical to how I import Caches and use them offline in the field.
So for getting listing+spoiler images after our GPX/PQ import we need to use GC-Offlinizer once for all Caches. At least for those ones we plan to visit during our next trip. Now all of these Cache contain all images.

Depending on the amount of Geocaches and Internet-speed this is time-consuming, but could be accelerated if you just load images of Caches you plan to visit. I'm not sure about that images are deleted after 2 months of inactivity although if cache is still present in point database - are you sure?

But I'm still not sure what is the need of "notification in the listing preview indicating which linked images exist but haven't been loaded yet"? What about the image-"placeholders" of non-loaded images on the image-page of a GC where you can see in detail which images are present and which of them not loaded yet? Do you want to see this placeholders additionaly on listing-page too (which is not very ideal in my mind)

An example how GC1CT3N looks like in the image-page after I imported its GPX: Just placeholders of the 2 listing images present. Locus is not able to know about 6 attached images and 1 background image yet (beacause this info is not within GPX/PQ file)
But after applying GC-Offlinizer, all 9 images are present within image-page - all loaded, no placeholders.

Version 4.36.1.4 (22.10.2026)
  • add: (SILVER) support for the iGPSport SR mini rear radar with alerts, the radar view on the map, and its light, auto sleep and warning settings right in Locus Map, topic
  • add: (SILVER) support for the Magene L508 rear radar with alerts, the radar view on the map, and its light modes, brightness, auto sleep and warning settings right in Locus Map
  • add: Ad privacy settings let you change your consent for personalized ads
  • chg: the ad above the map no longer makes the map jump when the ad changes
  • add: route warnings now also cover roads closed to bikes, places where cyclists must dismount, and steep climbs and descents
  • chg: offline vector maps draw faster after zooming or quickly panning the map
  • chg: map tiles appear sooner after panning or zooming the map
  • chg: zooming the map is smoother, it no longer freezes for a moment after each zoom step
  • fix: zooming to a track or area no longer hides part of it under the side panel or the top bars
  • fix: memory problems with the bottom panel on the map screen
  • fix: (SILVER) map shading shows a gap in the elevation data as a gap, not as a deep pit
  • fix: (SILVER) elevations from offline data no longer drop to absurd values at gaps in the data
  • fix: (SILVER) updated offline elevation data is used right away, without restarting the app
  • chg: (SILVER) the sensor settings have no Set button, changes are saved when the screen closes and the sensor reconnects only if a setting really changed
  • chg: (SILVER) the sensor settings group notifications and beta options under their own headers, and bike radar alerts collapse into a short summary
  • fix: (SILVER) a sensor stopped by the time limit of the free version shows Connect again in the sensors manager, instead of a Disconnect button
  • chg: the background image of a geocache listing downloads in a smaller size and is shown last on the Images page as "Background image", topic
  • chg: (SILVER) GC Offlinizer sorts the images of a geocache by title, as on geocaching.com, topic

New version a little sooner. Two new radar devices, faster map rendering!, and many smaller fixes.

Balloni is correct, there is this automatic cleanup. Maybe it is not perfectly correct. What about increasing the time to let's say 6 months, and when the cache itself is updated in the DB, the timer should be reset for this cache?

4.36.1.4: panning chart - see YouTube video - whole "section" of the chart changes from normal colors to solid red - is this changing of color intended? what does it mean? or a bug?

Yes, I think 6 months after last update would be a good time for people which don't update their Caches very often. A question to Menion: What is the idea behind automatic cleanup of Caches' images which are still present in a folder? Or would it make sense just to clean unused images of Caches which are no longer present in any folder?

@Andrew Heard: I can't reproduce the behaviour.

@Menion: Thanks for the update. I'd like to raise the issue of the photo thumbnails on the highlighted tracks again (see here). I take lots of photos whilst on holiday, and depending on the zoom level, the tracks are sometimes cluttered with cluster icons or thumbnails, obscuring the track route. The only inconvenient solution at the moment is to (temporarily) disable 'Show Media' in the settings, which requires several clicks and some scrolling.
If it isn't possible to add a toggle in the track info panel, could the "Show media" option perhaps be added to the sidebar? In any case, a solution needs to be found here.
