Hi all,

I am looking for a new tablet for motorcycle (rally raid) navigation. The choice will be very likely a trade-off between various specs (screen brightness, plug and play solution, tablet performance specs).
The performance specs of the Tablet (CPU, RAM memory) will be one element.

What are the required specs to have Locus function well (i.e. speeds for map refresh between 50 and 120 km/hour, 8'' screen, mainly used for following a track, but also map switching between various maps, some usage of brouter for routing).
Currently the options are 4GB RAM (Android 10) vs. 12 GB of RAM (Android) 12. I.e. is the  4 GB of RAM sufficient?

Then the second question:
Are there external GPS receivers (linked to Android) that can be recommended. Precision, robustness and high frequency updates are the main requirements here.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Frans,

I won`t give you any recommendations, but may tell you that Locus Map runs generally on any device with Android 5+ with expected performance. I`m from time to time testing an app on a very old Galaxy S2 with 1GB RAM  :). The amount of RAM has from my point of view very little effect on the app's performance. It has an effect mainly on how many apps may be running simultaneously. And well, for games of course. So 4GB should be good enough.

I know personally the guy behind CarpeIter system and unfortunately, I do not use it, but I believe it is a very mature product (also based on good reviews I read). They sell tablets and also hardware controllers. But well, it isn`t cheap ... anyway, it works perfectly with Locus Map and later this year, Locus Map will most probably will be pre-installed on new devices ...
