i get this error constantly, covering the screen. i did not on previous versions.

Hi,
I guess that you customized the list of online maps for Locus map. Please check the file  Locus/mapsOnline/custom/*.xml - as described at https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:customization:online_maps
You probably defined the same provider twice.
