How to hide Vector Map icons/items?

I'm using the Vector map of a nearby city centre but it contains hundreds and hundreds of bus stop icons that simply clog up the screen. Its the same with alot of the icons.  For example... if I zoom out I get lots and lots of 'church' icons and if I zoom in a little to see the roads better I get around 30 bus stops icons messing up the screen as I'm trying to see the roads.

I know the POI new beta feature exists but I havent got anything as viewable - it just seems all the POIs of the Vector are getting shown by default.

If I zoom out of a map to see the local area with roads etc etc and my route of walking, well, I cant see anything really as the map is awash with road numbers and other icons.

Is there any way of turning all these things off please as I'm confused and my eyes feel like they are having to work overtime just to see the map beneath all the icons.

Thanks in advance everyone.   :)

Hey why? This is quite fresh feature, but I'm more then sure, that some improvements will come.

Also big problem I found is searching of your posts. So I reported this to developers of help desk and https://help.useresponse.com/topic/improve-search-results-in-3-x-version ... positive response. We will with Peter update tomorrow our server and update help.locusmap.eu to new version. So hope it will also help to find your topic more easily ;). Little bit offtopic, sorry.

It seems to me that the original post was about excessive symbols from the vector map itself, not the offline POI database. Unless I'm wrong, most of the subsequent posts seem to be about refining the operation of the offline POI database. In any case almost all the proposed solutions only switch on or off the symbols, rather than change the zoom level at which they appear.

There are three possible answers to limiting the vector map symbols:
1. menion & co to review the zoom levels at which these symbols appear in the built in themes
2. use a third party theme, see for example
http://www.openandromaps.org/en/oam-forums/topic/map-theme-link-collection
http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?board=40.0
My Voluntary theme is designed in part to limit the excess number of symbols in towns on UK maps while still showing all useful detail as you zoom in, and at the same time being useful in the countryside : http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=2915.0
3. edit an existing third party theme, or even an older Locus theme from http://docs.locusmap.eu/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=manual:map_tools:locus_internal_themes.zip . What would need doing is to change the min-zoom values for the symbols that appear at too low a zoom.

There are three possible answers to limiting the vector map symbols:
A different one is the possibility that mapsforge 0.5 style menus could be added to Locus, as discussed here:
http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4311.0
This allows adding different map items to categories, which can be switched on and off. Have a look at the preview version of Elevate 3, which isn't compatible with Locus (yet), but I added different groups of switchable POIs:
http://www.openandromaps.org/en/oam-forums/topic/elevate-updates-and-test-versions-news#post-4059
It can be easily tested with Atlas on the Desktop:

That's all very interesting, but will make things even more complex.
Now we have the ability for the theme creator to define switchable layers, but also, the user wants to be able to turn on/off specific POIs.

I'm wondering if this could be combined:
If the layer mechanism of the themes is integrated in Locus, then it could offer to add user-defined layers that have the same abilities. So no additional/differing logic, "just" (yes, I know...) a GUI to define a layer in the app. The layer could then be stored interchangeably in the same XML format (not in the theme, of course). These user-defined layers would be independent of the theme and could be applied to any theme. Now we only need a quick-layer button for the sidebar, which opens a dialog (which also contains the theme's layers) with layer toggle switches, and we're done  8)
(I hope you can understand what I'm writing...)

I know, this is rather a big development effort, but I think it would be the biggest most useful feature for Locus imaginable (apart from my favorite, the points/tracks sync).
