i've seen that locus now (from 1.15) supports a new file format for maps.
so far, i use .tar files for my maps.

i wonder which map file format is the preferred format for locus, and is it worth to convert the maps to this format?

thanx!

I'll give you my personal opinion, not based by real experience but based on knowledge of code and system how all maps works ...
so ..
- fastest - is for sure binary map formats, so GEMF and RMAP. TAR is in middle and SQL format is slowest one
- usability - because GEMF format use same system for storing maps as SQLite format, there is no simple possibility to use custom maps in these formats. So if you have own calibrated maps, you have to use TAR or RMAP for now. From these two, I'll definitely take second one. RMAP have advantage, that do not need to initialize for a long time as TAR, also should be little bit faster and mainly allow to use maps up to 2GB. TAR will have with bigger maps speed problems
- about tile size, I suggest to keep format 256x256px, which should be fastest thanks to system I created in Locus

as I wrote at start, this is just my opinion. Real experiences from others are welcome ...

i can't believe that no one can tell me what tool i can take to generate RMAP.

i think it should be possible to generate RMAP, if LOCUS can read it ;-)

hm. doesn't seem to work!

i actually have my maps in .tar and .ozfx3 (ozi explorer) format, but neither TTQV5 nor CompeGPSLand 7 seem to be able to convert them to RMAP.

with mobac, i'm only able to access to online maps, but not to import my existing maps.

what i need is a tool that allows me to convert my existing maps to RMAP!!

TAR format .. this will be a problem. With OZI, you just need to convert it to some basic image + .map calibration file, and this then can be converted ..

ozfx3 is a private beast of OziExplorer, encrypted and specifically meant not to be used outside Ozi applications. The swiss army knife tool "OziMapTrans" will decrypt and convert this to a simple TIFF, which in turn can be imported by CompeLand or TTQV and exported into an RMAP for Locus.

OziMapTrans has been discontinued by its author but still works surprisingly well. Google is your friend.

hm. that's what i did (or tried to do)!

but when converting the map to tiff (using ozimaptrans), i don't get the .cal file, although i enabled .cal generation in the settings (no idea what i'm doing wrong).
so when importing to TTQV, i have no calibration data for the map.

No idea then. I mostly convert kompass maps and it creates tif and cal and map files nicely. Can be loaded into ttqv and globalmapper without problem.

Never really tried ozf3 though.

no matter if i base on .ozfx3 or .tar maps, i always get the message

<mapname>.cal konnte nicht erzeugt werden.

so now i tried the following:

- extract a .tif file using ozimaptrans
- manually edit the original .map file to point to the .tif file
- read both into compegps land and save as .RMAP
- then i placed the .RMAP file into the locus/maps folder

unfortunately, locus cannot see the .RMAP file.
what am i still doing wrong?????????????????????

thanx!

try ttqv4. it's the best tool for rmap export right now. works with demo afaik:

maybe, i'm an idiot, but i can't find out how to get my maps into ttqv4.
how can i import a map into ttqv4?
and what map format do i need to have to get it into ttqv4?
thanx!

I've got same problem. I have 1 sqlite and 2 rmaps in/maps. Locus sees only one rmap. Both of them are created with compegps.
