I copy a map.mbtiles to my downloads folder on my phone.  Then I open Locus Maps and import the map.

Question:   Does Locus copy that map file to a different location for use or is it using the map in the download location on the phone?

I would like to know so I can better manage my storage.

If it is creating a copy?  Then I can delete from the downloads folder?  Or will that remove it from Locus?

Where to copy offline maps to so it does not get duplicated?

Question 2:  Removing the map with map manager within Locus.... Does that just remove it from the map or delete the map file from the phone?

Hello,
it depends on the Android version you are using, but with Android 11+ (I expect you use), the app copies files into its own working directory. You should get an option to choose the target directory more precisely. Does it happen?

Deleting the map deletes the file itself, not just the entry in the Map manager.

If you deal with more maps, a good solution may be placing maps into /Android/media/menion.android.locus/maps directory. App should use these maps directories without the need for some copy & delete operations.
