Locus cannot use the internal pedometer

Most modern smartphones have a built-in pedometer, including my SG S10. I have numerous apps that can access this and display the steps correctly. In Locus this does not work, the field "Strides" in the track recording always shows only 0 strides. See screenshot.

The app permission "Physical activity" is granted.

Most modern smartphones will have a built-in accelerometer - some info here, which can be used to detect steps. Not likely a specific pedometer sensor.

Hmm, I have an app called Mein Gerät pro (My device pro). SG S10.

The list of all sensors includes:

LSM6DSO Acceleration Sensor

AND

SAMSUNG Step Counter Sensor

I suspect it is not very common to have specific hardware for a step count sensor. More (most?) phones will implement this through operating system software, using the accelerometer - https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/sensors/sensors_motion.

Using Tasker by any chance? The action "Test sensor" will probably be able to read out this sensor. I use it to write step stats into track waypoints.

But now indeed I'm wondering if LM4 shouldn't make use of that sensor natively, if it exists. Huawei Mate 20 X here. Have not looked at that info in track recording screen, but they are not available in track stats. Which they could.

@Tapio - tested on a tablet - Tasker task summary: "Test Sensor Type:Pedometer - Com.qti.pedometer". Then on a phone, there is no sensor Type:Pedometer, the closest is Sumsung Step Detector, or Sumsung Step Counter. So I guess each device will have different names. Somewhat of a minefield. Neither device has specific hardware BTW.

When I run the task on each device there is an eventual timeout.

@Tapio - I initially tried to use the # but unfortunately not, both were large (& different) decimal numbers, sort of like 1234567
