Hi all.

Was downloading maps to use in offline mode but then realised it is best to download some sections to the online database so that my phone will use the downloaded tiles and will only download new ones as and when I move into an area that has not been downloaded before.

But my question is this...

I read on here somewhere that the offline databases etc etc should be less than 2gb...

so what happens when the online database hits 2gb?  For example in the mapsOnline folder, my certain map type is 996mb already... what will happen when that hits 2gb?  or even 1gb?

hi,
if map hits 2GB or more, it will not be usable in Locus anymore. If Online map hits this size, you'll see warning window every start of Locus. If offline map, you'll not be able to use it. Map bigger then 2GB cause only troubles, return wrong tiles or no tiles and slow down whole program, so avoid it at all cost. 1GB is no problem. Limit by system is really on 2GB. Why? don't ask me. Don't know ...

I don't know for sure either, but I assume it's due to a 32 bit address space (same limitation with Windows 32 bit).

The file system prior to 2.3 is YAFFS: //http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Android-2-3-Gingerbread-to-use-Ext4-file-system-1152775.html

More on YAFFS file size limits here: //http://balloonboard.org/lurker/message/20040802.150852.de0c61b1.fi.html

Based on the first link it sounds like I should be able to handle files larger than 2Gb on my phone (although the FAT32 file system on the SD card will limit me to 4Gb).
