Merging tar maps into one map with multiple zoom levels

Hi!

I have a set of maps in the tar format. They all cover the same region but with different resolutions.
The higher resolution maps are nice for hiking, but I cannot zoom out enough to get an overview (the zoom-out symbol greys out in Locus at a certain level). With lower resolution maps I can get a nice overview, but they are of course unsharp when zooming in.

Is there any tool that allows combining those tar files in into one file with multiple layers? I want Locus to change to a more appropriate layer when zooming in or out (as it is done e.g. with downloaded OSM maps).

I do not really care which format the resulting map is in (as long as Locus can read it).

Thank you!

PS: I know I can work around the issue by changing between maps in Locus, but using the zoom buttons would be the better way.

Thank you very much.

I was not aware that just renaming and moving the files is enough to do what I want.
