I'm fairly new to Geocaching, and I have been using Locus + Geocaching4Locus, which is a great combination - used to use Locus + C-Geo, but this new combination is more simple and seamless.

I've just been looking at the other geocaching co-apps, like GeoGet Database and GSAK Database.

What can I do with these co-apps, which I can't do with Geocaching4Locus?  Am I missing out on anything not having them installed?

I'm not a serious geocacher, it's just something I do with the kids sometimes, and it is usually just one of two we're hunting at a time, so I suspect Geocaching4Locus is enough for my needs.

Cheers

That depends on how do you want to go geocaching.

1) Completely offline and paperless:
I have my GSAK database (140 000 caches) on my smartphone and could even put the spoilerpics onto it to. Only tools for that: Locus (I have the pro version), Locus Gsak Addon, Gsak (your PC Cachedatabase maintenance program).

2) With Online-Flatrate
Just use Locus pro or Locus with Geocaching4Locus Addon

I don't need C-Geo or GDAK (crashes with that big database) or other programs to get access to the Cache database. Other useful Apps for fieldpuzzles etc. are  GCC (GeoCache Calculator), Cipher Crypt, GPS Averaging.

I also do geocaching. Sometimes even with opencaching.de, wich is not yet directly possible. In former times I used cachewolf on PC to create gpx for my (old) mobile with HC and OC. Today I directly download single OC gpx by mobile broeser and import it in Locus (separate Category). I don't miss any addon for OC yet. But maybe for having all geocaches in view, maybe I will try GSAK or give cachwolf (on PC) a second chance.

It sounds like I'm fine sticking with GeocachingforLocus addon.

I've downloaded a few hundred geocaches in my local area, which are now in my 'Points' as a separate catagory.  I can display them all on the map, navigate to them, see the listing/hint/notes/log all offline, so that's pretty much all I need to do.  I can log my own visit offline if I want, but I tend to wait until I'm back online.

So geocachingforlocus does pretty much all I need for now!

Yes, GC4Locus is great!
One more thing: If you are a premium member at GC and create pocket queries (i.e. for your home zone), the api of the Live Geocaching plugin can get the built queries from GC (no need to select single geocaches for download).

yes and in next version will be new "GC Offlinizer" feature, that will allow to also pre-download all images and spoilers (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... ike_garmin) ! so your geocaching may be finally 100% offline. Ah yes, correct ... travelbugs and geocoins are still not covered, but as I spoke with Arcao (author of G4L), he'll take care of it

Hi menion,

the new "GC Offlinizer" ist just GREAT! This makes "Locus" one of the most powerful Android-Tools for Geocaching purposes.

But there's one suggestion, i'd like to make: i don't know exactly, how you determine which pictures should be downloaded as "spoilers". I suppose, all pictures whose linknames contain certain keywords (like of course "spoil").

It would be great, if there would be a possibilty to define custom keywords. For example: in this (//http://coord.info/GC2ABYB) geocache, there are two important spoiler-pics ("Tag65-01" and "Tag65-02"), but both of them will not be downloaded by the GC Offlinizer. If i would be able to define some additional keywords (like "tag"), then all would be fine.

Not all spoilers are named with the keyword "spoil" oder "spoiler" in it. But almost always there ARE appropriate keywords (like "cue", "hint", "cache", "station", "stage", "help"), and often, these are spelled in local language (like "hinweis", "versteck", "hilfe" in Germany).

best regards
Mario
