I just wonder, why ways through forests are not choosen for shortest ways by foot. It routes me over streets around the forest.
If you try the same "goal" with a Garmin device p. E. with the openmtb map it works. Does Locus use Google routing even if I use an OSM vektor map?
But maybe a handling problem.

You may try this

I cannot use google routing, it have to be used only on google maps as I read. Which service compute routing is set in settings. So if you use MapQuest and it compute route around a forest, then try CloudMade. It just have nothing to do with Locus, but it's a problem of used web service. It have no effect if you use vector maps or any other

fine, anyway CloudMade is missing some important data for Route planning on road, like exits etc. So from my experience, MapQuest is good for car, CloudMade for bike and walk ...
