When exporting tracks, currently Locus exports to the SD card. If there was an added option to export/upload to your OSM account, that would be very handy for mappers.

Would it not be easier for OSM mappers to use the OSMTracker for Android? http://www.appbrain.com/app/osmtracker- ... osmtracker At least for the time that Locus does not have the possibility mark waypoints with tags?  ;)

Not really in my eyes, because the apps have different goals. I don´t need an all in one app with hundred of functions, I can´t find.

I am an OSM mapper too but I prefer uploading the data to JOSM. It's to complex for a smartphone app to provide all features which would be necassary for OSM.

hmm, even if OSM community don't have much positive opinion on locus, I'll gladly add some support for you (mappers). So what help you most for now?

exporting tracks to OSM? So should be enough to add to list of export options (GPX, KML, DXF ...) another one? If so, give me please some documentations or some web page where should I read some info ...

It's not that we dislike locus, of course there are bad opinions due to the tile usage policy stuff, but that's like our opinion on MOBAC: we like the functionality that is great, but we disliked the use of the tool.

Anyway, providing tracks is a real nice thing, but please keep in mind, that nobody else has the exact klownledge of what you seen on your ride. Even with aerial imagery, it's realy dififcult to figure out if you were on just a track (bad way, but ok for jeeps) or on a real usable road on the countryside. But it's very useful for e.g. in the forests, as it helps us to determine if there is a path between the trees or if it's just a borderline to another tree culture.

What might be a better idea to improve OSM is using http://www.openstreetbugs.org, as it's allowing you to drop messages. We currently in  a planning phase for a new version, that is still easy to use, but allows vendors (as you) to add easily support and (very important) an anomynised feedback functionality ("your bug had been closed", "XYZ can't fix your bug, please provide further details"). Of course with more features (uploading multimedia files, adding GPS track segments/precalculated routes, ...). But this will take some more time, as we currently looking on how we merge all the existing QA tools :)

i know that it isn't black & white ... I just still cannot understand why is locus blocked even as simple map viewer ...

nevermind ... I cannot find API documentation for OSM bugs, do you please have idea where to search? Found http://openstreetbugs.schokokeks.org/api this, so some API exist

I don´t know if it makes sense. OSM will change their licence at 1. of April  2012 and loose a lot of data.  The "red" will be lost.
look and wait a few seconds http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=wt ... ne_created

Zoom in and you will see that most of the lost data are adress tags. The missing roads will be replaced in some month I think.

Here is the API documentation
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenStreetBugs/API

Some suggestions: Create a list of all user bugs entered, so your users get notified, if a new comment was added/bug closed (refresh once a week is enough). Adding the name Locus+unique ID would make sense and as said to bring back in peoples mind, that a "Heavens Valley" is less worth than " From here to the XYZ road in NE, this area is called Heavens Valley".

I think a lot of people also use the vector maps, which are offline and also based on OSM.

It would be great if we could contribute to OSM while using Locus..
For example if you see a part of the vector map unmapped, ideally we could record the track and have an easy way to mark it and then upload it to OSM.
This would be beneficial for everyone.

I remember looking into Vespucci and the other tools but didn't find clear info.
Directly from Locus would be nice! :)

Hi,
digging out this old post... ;)

Menion, can you improve OpenStreetBugs a little bit?
Display bugs can be extended to show solved and unsolved bugs.
There is missing the ability to comment on bugs.
And maybe you can add a textfield with "nickname" for reporting and commenting bugs.

That's it so far.
Search before posting!!!
