Screen not turning on

I've used Locus maps for years and covered at least 30K km using it on cycle tours and it's been excellent.  My Samsung S21 Ultra OS updated yesterday and lo and behold my screen sometimes won't turn on when voice navigation prompts occur. You can still hear the app fine, but the screen just stays off.

This doesn't happen all the time, just, it seems when I don't know where to go!

I hadn't changed any settings prior to it stopping and have used it for two days with the same behaviour.  I assume its Samsung, but any ideas how to solve it please?

Hello,
"Sometimes" really means that during the same trip, sometimes the screen is turned on and sometimes not, right? What Android version do you have now on your device?

I'm testing Locus Map for a long time on Android 13 and detected no problem related to "screen on/off" functionality. I'm also not aware of any other user reporting this issue, weird.

Hi Menion,

I thought I'd take the time to test again to give you a better idea of "Sometimes"

Locus turns the screen on about 25% of the time.  The rest you just hear the navigation and if you turn the screen on manually the cursor is in the correct position, so Locus is working fine.

I've done 5450km with Locus this year and this hasn't happened until the latest Samsung update to my Galaxy S21 Ultra.  I use it at least once a week and usually much more.  It really is making using locus quite difficult!  Any ideas of where I could look to find whats casuing this please?

Thanks

Hello Jon,
I would really like to help, but I have absolutely no idea why this may cause a problem.
App uses basic method here, no hacks or any special tools. I, unfortunately, use Pixel devices and nobody in the team has this Samsung so we can't test it. But also no other user reported this weird issue. Samsung is publishing updates quite often, so I may only hope, it is some temporary glitch that will be solved in the next update.

Hi Menion,

I don't know if this helps, but I've tested an alternative mapping app (OSM...) and it works fine at every navigation point.

Hello Jon,
without any clear reason, a simple "turn screen on" stopped working for me as well. By deeper analysis, it looks like a problem caused by changes in the Android 13 version and I do not see a simple solution for this.

The Tasker application seems to over-use alternative methods that may not be acceptable to Google in the case of Locus Map. Is there any other application that is capable of turning the screen on/off during navigation that I may try and test? Thanks
