Web portal & sync / Re: Hide to bar in web planner
December 13, 2022, 09:43:08
Hi! Well, I fully understand the request, but honestly it is quite low on our priority list for now as it would bring various challenges in the UI which would need to be solved differently and for now we rather spend the time on what we believe even more useful updates. But once the time will be right, we will consider it again!

Locus Map for Garmin / Re: Locus Map for Garmin
August 15, 2022, 16:40:50
Hi, the purpose of the app was never to utilize Garmin GPS for Locus Map on the phone, although several times requested. This is not supported and can't promise I will be able to implement it in the future.

Also, recommendation to downgrade to version 4.19 is no longer valid as it is quite old version (not supporting new devices). If it is still working for you, feel free to use it, but I would not recommend it anymore. That unfortunately means loss of map streaming feature, which is shame but can't do anything about it.

Hi guys, thanks for this discussion, all noted.  ;) We are for sure aware of benefits of making all changes in the POIs easier.  We are planning to analyse our further steps related to this topic in upcoming months as there are several possible paths for the future.

For now and in this thread, we are focusing to properly beta-test "LoMedia" attachments to LoPoints. Now mainly technical side and "intuitiveness" of the process as other updates related to user's motivation to upload their photo are on the way.  :) Feel free to use last beta of Locus Map to upload photos which will already be shown to others in public version. They already goes to final DB, so you can be one of the first to provide such media content on our platform. ;)

If I start to record an activity from the Locus Map module of my watch only (and Locus Map app not launched on the smartphone),  is it a normal behaviour to see this recording stopped when the smartphone shut down (for example if it has no more power...) ?
If there is recording activity using Garmin GPS and watch looses connection with smartphone (for example when battery dies), application will show huge red alert but continue to record on background. When leaving the app (alert), the app will provide selection whether you want to save or discart such recording.

This is of course not ideal, I hope to implement this better so the app will remain usable even when phone is not accessible, but right now, there are other priorities to take care off.

Web portal & sync / Re: Web planner / portal

Hi guys,

thanks a lot for your feedbacks and ideas. As you probably already spotted, we finally officially released LM4 for wide public. We can say we have LM4 app in the state which we wanted for its first release, but truth is that this is not really case for Web planner. We are aware of many missing features/updates which we wanted to include to first release, but time was against us.  On another hand we for sure believe it is already far better than nothing.  ;)

That being said, we have huge list of priorities which we want to handle and which should solve lots of your complains or implements your mentioned feedbacks. Because of that, we decided to leave BETA sign on its header for some time.

In the long-term, we have quite a lot of ambitions with our web portal so be sure we will keep rushing to make it better, its public release is just the beginning for us! Don't hesitate to keep your reports and feedbacks coming please - this of course help us to check we have our priorities right or help us to update our plans (here or even better to: https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/all/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1). Also please don't forget that web portal is set of various big and "independent" feature sets, so if you find something strange for example on online LoMaps - like Trump playing golf ;D - better report it to its particular topic (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0).

Regarding some topics which were already mentioned:
1) Not recalculate route when you change main routing profile is intentional to allow you to quickly change it during route planning while keeping previously routed part of the track intact. We will for sure try to find some solution to make it more obvious and option to recalculate whole route if wanted.
2) Ability to easily update routing profile of individual route segment will come soon.
3) Behaviour of routing points on left panel will be tweaked to not loose route statistics from the sight all the time when you put more routing-points.
4) Graphs will of course be not only for planned routes but also on other tabs and will contain a lot more data.
5) Another big topic for us is already mentioned ability to show multiple content from various tabs on the map to allow you for example plan route while having your previous tracks or even somebody else's track on map. Definitely lots of plans there.

So wish us luck to bring it all soon.  :)

Hi, that is the limitation of Garmin Connect IQ platform. The map will never be as fast as on Android Wear.

I have another question: on a fenix 6 (Connect IQ compatible) but which is not "Pro" or "X" (without any Garmin original cartography), can the watch show my smartphone LoMaps current map on its screen, as can do my Sony SmartWatch 3 ?
Hi, I missed your question, sorry. Yes, now you can even with natively non-map garmin models (except the oldest one)!   :)

EDIT: But one thing to add here: Fenix 6 PRO and other Garmin music or map models can utilise more memory for the app which Locus uses for better map caching when changing the screens and ability to activate enhanced map colors mode. Nothing fancy, but just want to point out, that although both F6 and F6 PRO can render maps via Locus, F6 PRO can do it a LITTLE bit better. Sorry to complicate your decisions a little. :)

Datafields are not yet customisable but it is of course one of the feature which we want to bring in some future versions.
Thank you for the feedback! The app must supports lots of screen sizes and layout configurations, so its not easy to fine tunes fonts/pixels on all models. We will try to improve it in the future. :)

Locus Map for Garmin / Re: Locus Map for Garmin

Hi Papaluna,

yes, this import works and I agree it is not really user-friendly. But I talked about importing via Connect IQ app like Locus Map. And that is not possible on Fenix 3 (unlike newer models which allows you to import track with two clicks via our app).

We have lots of planned features and some alert via Garmin before changing direction is one of them. The only question is how much we will be able to squeeze to already fully used memory limit on Fenix 3.

Hi Kalti, the reason is that Fenix 3 has even less memory then those two mentioned models and current version simply do not fit there. But currently we are working hard to make it work even on Fenix3 models - we hope to release public version compatible with your watch in next few weeks.

Hi all,

for those who didn't yet find out hard way - Locus Map for Garmin for lots of users currently doesn't work as the Garmin app can't connect to Locus Map in smartphone. This is because of Garmin's unexpected change in Garmin Connect Mobile 4.20 resulting of fail of lots of Connect IQ apps which use local communication.

We are in touch with Garmin teams and they are working on solution, but we don't have confirmed day of fix from them yet. Unfortunately it is not possible to make workaround on our side, so until the resolution the only way how to make the app work again is to downgrade Garmin Connect to version 4.19. The installation file is available here:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/garmin/garmin-connect-mobile/garmin-connect-mobile-4-19-1-release/

We are sorry for inconvenience.

Hi Theo,

Thanks for your suggestions.

1) You can do this even now if you enable heart rate sharing via your HR Widget on your watch. After that Locus Map can be paired via ANT+ to the watch via HR sensor configuration. Embed this feature directly to Garmin Locus Map application is not planned for near feature, but we will note it to our "possible future stuff" list. :)

2) Those two recordings are separated for reasons. There are also users who are using them together for purpose. But we are planning to make control of Locus Map recording from watch, which will basically do what you are requesting. So stay tuned for next versions!

Best Regards, Jan

Hi Papaluna,

we would love to add support also for Fenix 3 devices, but unfortunately they don't have enough resources (memory) to run such complex app. Currently we are still trying to find if there is way how to bring to this devices  more than just already planned track import functionality. For this reason, I can't commit to any publish date yet.

Hello all,

past week was busy. We released more versions during these days. But you can now enjoy (in version 1.1.0):

- much more supported devices (check it here: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:add-ons:locusforgarmin#devices_compatibility)
- new disclaimer screen to advise how to see more data screens
- updated preview mode
- and lots of smaller fixes and layout improvements

Enjoy and if you spot some issue, don't hesitate to let me know!
