Hi Menion,

Is it possible to preload/cache all images (incl. spoilers) from geocaches imported trough GPX import? When abroad I really would like to have a those preloaded on my phone, so I don't get charged with these extreme high datausage rates.

Regards,

Dibrial

Hey Menion,

Any news on this topic?

Implemented / Beep once within x meters

I would like to see this function implemented in the Final 1.0 version.

Make Locus beep (once) when within X meters of a waypoint.

In this way I would save a lot of battery, because I don't have to look on the screen that much anymore.
The guiding now starts beeping from a long distance and get's annoying when hiking trough a quiet environment. e.g. Beep once when within 10 meters will do fine for me.

Troubles & Questions / Re: guiding sounds

Quote from: "brouk"the sounds beep every one or two seconds but will be more useful to beep only once if passing through or near routing point.
:?: Is this already possible or planned to implement?  It would really come in handy in the caches we did today.

That sounds like a good tip for the bluetooth GPS users, but since I use the internal GPS I just can turn on the airplane mode use locus in offline mode. To bad downloading from OSM is slow. When I go hiking in een area for a week I need an area larger than 10x10km.

I was wondering about another setting which doesn't make sense to me:
In the Guiding menu the disable gps setting can be set. The description of this setting is 'When screen turn off and guiding is enabled :!: , also disable GPS'.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a setting to disable the GPS  when screen is turned off and the guiding is DISABLED :?:

This would also save a lot of battery, since, when not in guiding mode, I only need GPS when checking my position.

Would be great if you tested it. I'm a bit to busy this week to test it and next week I doubt I have time to test.

I could give it a try on a desire. Maybe it works and when hiking I don't need a position update every second.

Since downloading from OSM takes long for BMP tiles for large maps, I was wondering if there is a possibility to download the map as vector on my desktop and convert it to Locus compatible SQLiteDB?

Menion,
I have used Apline Quest for a while.

This app has the option to adjust the update rate to:

Very Precise Tracking: location updated every second
Precise Tracking: location updated 2 seconds
Medium Tracking: location updated 5 seconds
Long Tracking: location updated 10 seconds
Very Long Tracking: location updated 20 seconds

Could this be an option to reduce battery consumption?

Quote from: "gonnesouth"i've run into similar caches like dibrial described, except they give you a bearing and a distance to project to instead of coordinates
If you use Locus in combination with c:geo, you can add a waypoint by entering bearing and distance from the point where you have to make the projection.
I haven't found this functionality in Locus.

Quote from: "menion"Hi,
is this really useful feature? :) ... exist any software on desktop that do this and also allow some export into gpx or kml files? If so, I think that this should be much more user-friendly then draw circles in android ...

Menion,

This is usefull for geocachers using the c:geo and locus combination. There are several caches which require you to find the cache location by circle intersection. e.g. GC2449W, GC26NT8 (sorry it's dutch), also there is some discussion in the GC forums about how to do this. It works on the Garmin devices and, as shown in example above, also in Garmin Mapsource.

Problem for me is that, when in the field, I don' t have a laptop or netbook with Mapsource on it nearby  :) and I haven't found an Android app to do the calculations.  Only solution for me is to drive home, start-up mapsource, do the visualization and drive back with the found coordinate.

Since Locus shows all waypoint added in the c:geo cache, it would be ideal for me to be able to visualize the circles with given distance to find the cache location.

The function is also available in Geocaching Tools in Wherigo, but this tool cartridge doesn't work in Whereyougo (//http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=82)

I hope I explained my request for this feature more clear.

To me it would be nice to be able to draw proximity cirlces around three waypoint.

In that way the projection of a waypoint with the given waypoints and distances would be possible.

Somthing like the mapsource function:

It would really be nice if all the functions of Wherigo Geocaching tools workes. It's a great cartridge

Troubles & Questions / Wrong translation
January 21, 2011, 18:18:50
Hi Menion,

I just installed Smartmaps to try it. I see some menus are in English.
When clicking Geocaching theres  wrong translation

'Find by Coutry' should be 'Find by Country'
