Hi Menion.
Sorry about that - makret delayed things a bit on my phone and said I had the latest version but said it was 1.13.1
Just checked again now and it let me download 1.13.1 and everything is fine.
Excellent!
Thank you :-)

Oh no!

Updated pro version to 1.13.1 last night on android market and it wont even open.  Constantly force closes. :-(
I see from the market feedback system that other people are getting a forced close too.
Hope this can be fixed soon as I struggle to operate without my Locus.  ;-)

Android 2.1:  LG GT540 Optimus

EDIT: 1.13.1 DOES NOT CRASH - IT IS THE FIX!

Oh of course, I see your point menion.  The angle to exit the motorway was extremely slight as it is a 'slip lane' afterall.  Yes, I now see that it is difficult to get the software to recognise such a slight angle.

When I set a route in regular mode in Locus I always pick bright red as the route colour.  An option to change the calculated navigation route colour just like you can change other colours would be great.  I suppose a kind of stripey line would be out of the question?  Just a thought as to what would be best to be seen although a stripey route would probably look aweful.  lol

If there was a way for the nav voice to know the motorway exit was coming up and for it to speak about the exit then yes, that would be so much better than the 'go straight'.

Thanks menion, gonna grab the latest version of pro now.  :-)

Just some observations from using the voice navigation over the past few days...

My first problem is that although the route is the colour red which I set as it is easiest to see... when guiding is on the route is shown in dark purple/blue which conflicts with motorway road colours of blue and make following the route and seeing parts of the motorway (UK) very difficult indeed to diferentiate between.

Which leads to me to my next observation....

I was travelling down the motorway (UK) today and the route had me to come off at the next exit.  The problem was that (as stated above) the route colour when guiding was swtiched on was the same colour at the motorway and all lanes so it was very very difficult to see where my exit was coming.  The guiding arrow in the top left showed me to go straight on and the voice navigation kept telling me to go straight on.  I thought this was my exit so glanced at the screen and couldnt see where the exit was because of the colour clash and the navigation voice kept telling me to go straight on... so I did and in fact missed my turn.  It was completely misleading.

Another thing that is annoying to a degree is when going off the guided navigation route, the voice navigation stil speaks instructions.  I think that the voice navigation and turning symbols should cease completely untill you are back on your guiding route.

Guiding navigatin voices are speaking in 'metres' yet the arrow distance reads out in 'feet'.

Just a few observations there menion and good folks of this forum - loving Locus though and think the navigation thing is a superb addition.
Cheers menion :-)

what Menion explains here, works incredibly well! I just tried it again this morning when driving car to work. I took an alternative road one place and the blue arrow showed up with the great guiding line pointing to where the closest point was at the CloudMade route (continuously updating). When I joined the calculated route again, the blue arrow changed back to the car symbol and the navigation was back on track. Works perfectly!

Thanks alot for that menion and thanks for helping so muc svartbjorn.
I know exactly what you mean svartbjorn and that is exactly how I thought it would work as it tested it like that - but it didnt.  Now in all fairness, it did seem to fail in 'guide reverse', but I will try it again properly today and report back.
Also got the new version this morning and am really looking forward to testing it,  :D

Excellent, thanks for the reply Menion.

One bit of trouble I am having though - and its probably my own fault but maybe someone can help me out.

When I compute a cloudmade route, do I have to hit every single turn for it to work?  I mean, lets say my route has 10 turns, but I take an alternatie road at turn 4 and so miss out turn 4 altogether.  It seems that the software does not then see that I am back on the route and ready to hit turn 5, instead it does the long line-of-sight guiding arrows telling me I need to go back and do turn 4.

Is that correct or should it just pick up that I am back on route?

Many thanks.

Well done Menion, the cloudmade navigation seems superb so far - I am really pleased :-)

Just one question though...

Is it possible to load up a .gpx route that I have made and get the turn by turn images for that?

I know cloudmade will compute a route for me from A to B.  But if I have already planned a route in Google Earth and imported my .gpx file into Locus, am I able to get the turn by signs please?

Cheers and GREAT work as always.

Well, just a note about the quality of Locus.
I used TrekBuddy for many years on a Sony Ericson K750i and it was my first tracking hardware and I thought it was pretty great.

Unfortunately, when I got my Android phone I decided to use TrekBuddy and found it was resource hungry and failed a few times.
So, I then of course tried the Google MyTracks app and found a few niggles with it - the main one being that it was not tracking acurately.
Then I tried a number of other tracking apps including one called SportTracker.  It had a nice interface and even spoke the distances I had walked - it was a decent app but unfortunately the only way to get your tracking .gpx file was to upload the data onto their website and then go onto their website to download the data back again and gain the gpx file I wanted.  All a waste of time and an attempt to make you go onto their website.

So, then I found out about Locus.
for my hiking it does everything I need.  I can keep my tracked gpx files for future reference too.  Best of all, on my particular android phone - it doesnt hog the resources and doesnt run the battery down much at all.  It has functions that I used in other singular apps which means I have now deleted those apps and use Locus instead.

When you do a big hike and push yourself and want to see the results of your hike on the tracking device, it can be...lets say... annoying when the app you are running gies a completely wrong distance or een worse has shut down altogether about an hour ago without you even knowing.  Well, I have never had anyh of that with Locus and can therefore rely on it.  To me, thats the reason I love it so much.

Dont do your awesome work a dis-service menion - Locus Pro is by far the best app on the android store and no other app of this kind comes close to it as I mentioned above.

Hope that explains a bit why I did go a bit crazy about my appreciation of your software - but to be honest.... crazy or not...  Locus Pro is amazing and long may it continue to be so.

Best regards.

Not sure what exactly you are refering to, the only problem I find is that when you select the weather it displays the text perfectly in portrait mode but when the phone (Android LG GT540) is in landscape more the writing is all overlaid on itsself and unreadable.

Thanks for the reply Berkley. :-)

Firstly.... I did say the icons on the right panel.

Secondly.... whilst what you said is partly true - it is partly wrong too.  I can take off the items from the panel and add the ones I want first so they appear higher up, but the record icon iin that panel always appears at the very top does it not?  I might be wrong - gonna have a try.

Thanks again for the reply berkley.  :-)

EDIT: All sorted - deleted all buttons in the right panel and adding them back in via the order I wanted.  I am happy.  :D  :D

Thanks berkley.
Yeah, I have used the AMAZING night mode - but a brightness tool would be an axcellent addition as (for example) - if it goes dark whilst driving I can happily engage night mode - but I also wont need my screen at 100% brightness as around 50% would do but in order to change that I have to come out of the app.

Declined / Change Brightness Icon
July 22, 2011, 18:21:19
I know I should just change the brightness on my homescreen widget before I start Locus Pro, but I often forget.  I start up Locus Pro and get ready for a journey, go outside then cant see my screen and so have to come out of Locus and hit my brightness widget then go back into Locus.

Would be very very handy to have a singular button (maybe next to the satellite icon on the top panel) that when hit once changes your screen to 50% brightness.  Hit again for 75%, and again for 100%.

I think it would just make things so much easier, afterall, when driving - the sky and weather conditions can change and it is much easier to reach forward and hit 1 icon whilst stopped at traffic lights instead of messing around going to homescreen widgets and then getting back into Locus Pro.

Just a thought.

Cheers all :-)

2 things....

Firstly. Menion is a genius....

Secondly, is there any way at all to change the order of the icons in the right panel.  My 'quick switch' icon needs to be scrolled to when my android is in landscape mode - but ideally I would prefer it at the top of the right panel pane.

Cheers everyone. :-)
