Hi Menion,
I just recognized the download limitation and understand it completely! However I have to complain about the zoom level, which is not suitable for cities in my opinion. Sometimes the names of the streets are not even visible or very hard to read on higher resolutions. I never downloaded more than 2000 tiles at once, which is good enough for the best parts of a town. I would appreciate it, if there only would be daily download limitation with full zoom. So far I had to install an old version of Locus to prepare a trip to some other place.

Anyway ... I really appreciate your hard work on that great program!

Hi Menion,

another nice feature! Since the file size is too big for the whole world it would be nice to only store cities grouped by their countries. When searching for a city you have to choose the (offline available) country first. Maybe it would be also possible to download the country-file with the phone instead of the computer!?

Anyway ... always nice to see your updates coming!!!

I really like the POI's!It would be great to be able to download and display them in Locus.

Hi Menion,

it's great that you continue, after the maps problem! With google ... I wonder about other android programs, who also show GoogleMaps. I was using Maverick a lot before Locus came out and they also offer a lot of maps to choose from. However there's no possibility to download the maps directly from there (it only caches the visited tiles). That's why I like Locus! It still would be great if you could show GoogleMaps (legally), which probably means that you disallow downloading maps from there, but just showing. Maverick is out for quite some time, so if they can then you also might me able, right?

Troubles & Questions / Facebook Places Handling
April 07, 2011, 11:59:50
Hey ... I recently checked the Facebook places functionality where you can click on the place of a friend and a maps application (of your choice) shows you the place on the map. With GoogleMaps it works ... it opens and the coordinates to look for are searched ... a moment later it shows you a bubble on the correct spot. In Locus however the request seems not to be recognized ... any solution for this? It's not so important but a nice feature.

I agree! Especially towards the final version 1.0 this functionality is not necessary. It would be interesting however if there would be some kind of plugin mechanism, so that people can write their own additions to the program ... to be finally happy ;)

You might think about it for version 2.0 :)

Hi,

just a small bug:
It seems that the right panel, when it is hidden, still occupies the screen and does not let user input through the map. If I want to move the map starting where the right hidden toolbar is, then the map cannot be moved. The top hidden toolbar doesn't have this conflict however.

When I start recording a track, it takes quite long (2-5s) where no user input is accepted. Once it is running it works smooth again.

If you release a final version 1.0 with most bugs removed, then it would be okay to have a free version with ads and a version free off ads that one can buy. In general I wouldn't like ads in a program I use often. So remove the ads and add some extra features in a paid version and everyone will be happy I guess ;)

Hi,

when I switch to setting: Global -> Highlight still enabled -> System settings" then it works as expected. However the screen switches off within Locus when using GPS. If I use option "Only when GPS ON" then locus stays on as wanted (with GPS on), but if I go back to home screen (GPS in locus will be disabled) but the screen still stays on. Locus seems to check the phone's GPS status instead of the Locus' one.

Hi,

I recognized that my phone fails to switch off its display when Locus has been started and put into background (pressing the home key). I understood that it shall stay on all the time when GPS is enabled, but only if the app also is active! So when GPS is active in Locus and I go to the home screen, then the phone never standbys. Even if I put the phone manually into standby and go then to the lockscreen, it stays there forever. If I however turn off GPS usage within Locus and go then to the homescreen, the phone puts itself into standby.

So I guess you have to switch off the "force always on" parameter, when app goes into background!?

Have a nice day :)

Information / Re: [POLL] - what to do in 2011!

It's not good to always "reinvent the wheel", so the MyTracks integration seems to be like a good decision, as long as it is easy to use.

Yes, enough ;)

Just one more technical question: It seems that an active data connection is needed when using network/wi-fi/cell-ID - mode. Is this correct or should it also be possible to determine the location without data traffic?
As far as I know Google needs to download information about surrounding wifi-hotspots in order to determine your location later in offline mode. Therefore they do have a special database of those wifi hotspots and their location ... is this similar to the network mode? Or am I seeing something wrong here?

Thanks already!

Implemented / Show position using Network provider
December 27, 2010, 16:22:54
Hey,

is it possible to show the position using only the network stations? So it would show an approximation of your current location. Advantages are that it is fast and uses much less power consumption. This would be often enough if you just want to find out where you are (in a city) not needing the very correct position.
