Understand ... searching ... best should be to place a link (to file, URL) directly into the theme. But this makes sense only in case, I add this also into the official MapsForge4 library and it may take some time ...

So in the next version, "temporary" solution: currently PDF (any other format may be useful as well?) file with the same name and location as a theme XML file. In the list of themes, such a theme will have a small badge and long-click offer display of legend.

An idea: currently there are 2 types of buttons that can be added to function panels:

  • Add function button
  • Add link to app
How about 3rd type: Add link to  file? This could for this discussion be a PDF map legend file, but could be any useful file in practice.

Well, the IT is in the 2nd part only. :-) I have posted it for general audience, as some may take it as useful info, others not so much.

Yes, the BRouter servers take from OSM the daily difference files, process them and make the related daily BRouter differential and full updates.

You can check yourself:

For usual users nothing changes, they just notice in BRouter download manager less of data downloading and more of data processing.

The daily/frequent  updating makes sense mainly on the current data square only a/o if one impatiently waits for OSM update propagation.

Or, if one wants/needs to cut down the updating network data for whatever reason.

So ganz unrecht hat Tapio nicht. Ich bin z.B. seit 2003 im Naviboard unterwegs und ein Großteil der Threads dreht sich im Garmin-Sektor darum, wie man die Unzulänglichkeiten der Gerätesoftware und der Dienstprogramme umschifft. Das größte Problem sehe ich hier einerseits in der fehlenden Dokumentation seitens Garmin, andererseits in der Unsitte Geräte im Firmware-Beta-Status auf den Markt zu werfen. Bananen reifen bekanntlich ja auch beim Kunden.

Basecamp fand ich persönlich gar nicht so schlecht nach Einarbeitung. Aber warum kommt ein Buch zu Basecamp vom privaten Anwender Zellhöfer und nicht von Garmin?
Warum müssen Routingeigenschaften von z.B. Zumos von Anwendern ausgearbeitet und auch dokumentiert werden (Volker Koch) damit man diese überhaupt erst vernünftig bedienen kann?
Und bei der nächsten Firmware oder dem Nachfolgemodell ist wieder alles anders. Undokumentiert seitens Garmin natürlich.

Es sind so viele Kleinigkeiten, die sich bei mir über viele Garmin-Jahre über alle Geräte und Anwendungen hinweg addiert und nicht verbessert haben und den Frust haben wachsen lassen. Ich für mein Teil bin mehr wie froh, mit Locus endlich eine gut funktionierende und dokumentierte Software gefunden zu haben.

Ausflüge über WinCE mit iGO, Lowrance Endura und TwoNav waren zwischenzeitlich auch dabei - aber auch nicht von Dauer.

Ich habe alle Lomap-Poi-DBs entfernt und nur die Oam-DB von Baden-Würtemberg hinzugefügt. Damit funktioniert die Adresssuche per langem Klick auf die Karte.
Wenn ich aber nur die Oam-DB von Switzerland benutze, funktioniert die Adresssuche per langem Klick nicht mehr.
Was bedeutet, dass die Oam-Switzerland.db ein Problem verursacht. Die Switzerland-DB ist fast 40MB kleiner als die Baden-Würtemberg-DB.
Ich werde das mal bei OAM melden.

Every ID has definition if it's hike/bike/car category => based on this, some other parameters are used, like compute of time estimates etc. As I wrote ... it's not so simple :)

Really, I was already thinking about it and I can't simply change the current system to allow bigger modification of BRouter profiles ... for now ;).

Consider adding a regular routed segment as typing a letter on a keyboard, while adding a straight segment as a CAPITAL one.

Consider explicit profile switching to straight line as CAPS LOCK activation.

Consider long pressing route or + button as using SHIFTed letter to type just 1 or 2 CAPITALS.

What is wrong with SHIFT key ?

I see just 1 issue, why to use right SHIFT and not left, if right one is already taken ?

I voted "Long click on "+" button: add manual segment between last point > map center"
Because: a) I don't need what's currently on longclick+. and b) I think it is a rather regularly used function and we achieve a lot of convenience. Very good icitiative from lor74cas.

If this is implemented, @Menion can also allow to hide the manual profile just like the other profile types.

Good news: After lots of hours research, contact with different institutes across the country, quality checks etc. there's for the first time a high-quality DTM of the whole United Kingdom

For about 75% of England, Wales, Northern Ireland fine LIDAR source data available, Scotland
unfortunately (beside river valleys and coasts) is not covered as well. For the areas not covered with fine LIDAR-data I used OS DTM-50m which is wider gridded but also based on LIDAR source data and hence especially in wooden areas more accurate than SRTM data.

Hi Menion, I have a proposal to modify the display of warnings and warnings. I don't like the current version, when the warnings are displayed twice. Please try to discuss this. This is because if the backup fails, for example, and you are on an expedition somewhere, the icon now unnecessarily overlaps the map.

Ahoj Menione, měl bych návrh na úpravu zobrazení upozornění a varování. Současná verze, kdy se varovaní zobrazují dvakrát se mi moc nelíbí. Zkuste se o tom prosím poradit. Důvodem je i to, že pokud selže například odesílání zálohy a jsi někde na výpravě, ikona nyní zbytečně překrývá mapu.

What I'd like is for the map to recenter on the appropriate Via Point or Shaping Point when I tap its icon in the new Route Planner - or it could be an option on the triple dot overflow menu. Or is there already some other way of achieving that?

First impression:

I use auto-hide for all panels, I like the full map, I do not like too much the button of menu visible while all is hided, see attachment.
For my case of use the menu button gives access to something I do not usually need while focusing on the map, It'd be more convenient if it show up with the double touch of the map as the other hided menus.

Nice to read it Jonny :). I also have problems to work with recent public Free/Pro version now  ;D

I spend an unfortunately unbelievable amount of time (more than a month) on creating united screen for points and I'm still not perfectly satisfied with it  :(. Anyway, I'll try to close most of remaining problems and generate a new Alpha version hopefully during this week.
