@twil69: hope you find presets useful.
About "Notification center" > this center is only visible as long as it has something to display. Get rid of it's content = get rid of this button, simple.

Hello Menion,
I agree with @twil69, you are right no content no button, but I need to get rid of content to make it disappear and sometimes I have no time to read the blog's post or other messages from locus notification button. So if I want to have my map free from notification button, I need to clear its content that I'd like to read later but later I have no more the link or I usually forgot about it.

Hello, lor74cas.

For training voice (and navigation voice), phrases have to be defined by tts file for each language. To prepare tts file for italian, download en.tts from google drive, put it in Locus/data/tts folder, and just rename en.tts to it.tts. The link to google drive is written here http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3227.0.

Then, in Locus 3.21.1.19, set both 'Language' and 'Text-to-speech settings' to italian, and start training. You should hear 'Ritmo bla bla per kilometer'. Actually I've confirmed that.

Now, you can edit the english phrases into italian and when you complete them, upload your it.tts file to google drive. It will be embedded in next version of Locus and Locus/data/tts/it.tts file is no longer needed.
Thank you I'll try it when and if I'll have some time. There is no app to have more free time, what about it Menion ? It'd be the app of the century

Hi the spoken message of training manager about pace is not perfect in Italian.
It says something like
Pace 24 and 12 minutes min
The last min is redundant or wrong if the correct idea is to say minutes/km in this case it must be replaced by km.

@lor74cas: ah, because of blue bubble hint, bottom "share" buttons are not visible, damn. Isn't possible to scroll with page? Have to fix it, thanks.
Without bottom "share" button, this feature is useless. Because your location is not shared on public live tracking web, but on special web page, where only people with required link may see just your location.
Use case is: I ride how and wants to display my wife where I am. Instead of complicated setup of big "live tracking" feature, here with three taps I may share url to web page, where my wife will see me. Fast and simple ... well, but "share" button is needed :).

No way to scroll the page, no share button. Good idea I hope to test it soon

Live tracking / Re: Locus - Live tracking service

I do use Locus Live Tracking amongst my fellow geocachers and track/route buddies, but for safety and contact with family I use a sms service. My family got iphones, sms is perfect for anti-nerdy family members.

App is called DRADIS https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prototypezero.dradis

Its exactly the service for my needs and comes with a handy widget... I would love to see Locus with same functionality!
This reply is not meant to promote anything, just own experience about important subject.

Just my 5 cent..
I agree for the SMS service I created a tasker profile for this. It should be great to have it in locus.

Live tracking / Re: Locus - Live tracking service

Hello

Many thanks for this live tracking.
It is fast (no need to wait a long time between the start of live tracking in Locus) compared to GPSies.

A feature that I have been unable to figure out is how to display on the Locus live tracking web page map any information other than the user name (for example the latitude and longitude of the user).

As the map doesn't seem to display the coordinate grid, I have not been able to find a way to know the coordinates of the displayed user position.
It is highly possible that I am an idiot and cannot figure out how to display the coordinates.

But if this is not the case, will it be possible for a future implementation of the web page to display the coordinates when pointing to the position icon ?

This will be very useful in the following case:
The locus user is considered by the user follower as injured (the follower has no news, the user has not arrived to destination, etc...)
The user-follower (wife, son, friend...) is able to use the Locus live tracking  web site and see the last known user position on the map.
The map doesn't really give a clear and obvious hint about the user coordinates (for example, the user is on an area with little markers like large water body or a vast snow plain).
The user-follower wants to give the last known user position coordinates to rescue services,
If the user-follower had a displayed grid on the map, or if the latitude and longitude were displayed together with the user name, the user-follower will then be able to give the latitude and longitude of the last user position to the rescue services.

Thanks and regards

Alf
Hello,
You can easily solve it using locus pro where you can see everyone who has live tracking on and using the features of locus you can obtain the coordinates.

But what you want on the live tracking web page was requested also for locus pro live tracking. So why do not show when you click or touch the icon of a user:
Alias
Message
Date and time of last log
Coordinates
(Time from start of live tracking)
Distance
Time from start
Pace
Altitude gain
...
Someone asked also for Hart rate if I remember

Tested a few minutes ago
Live tracking live from quick share no result on web page of locus live tracking

Normal live tracking immediately shows my position on website

Maybe I have lost some posts but I do not clearly understand the use of live tracking live in quick share.
If I enable it my position is shared on http://www.locusmap.eu/live-tracking/
But within locus I cannot share this link with friends to tell them that now I am online and they can follow me on the web page.
I do not also understand why there is the time limit for the one who not payed for the private version while the normal live tracking has not time limit.

@lor74cas : hmm oki, so they wont's all these nice features , but instead of try to use them, they rather install app they don't have them? :). Anyway I got the point and agree, that "few" things should be made more user-friendly while keeping same functionality.

@Josef : btw. your English is maybe better then mine, so I believe, translation to Czech is not needed, save your time ;). Undestand and partially agree. On second side, very complicated application may be a problematic to generate enough income for four people that currently on Locus Map works. So it needs to be some "compromise". Do not worry, I do not plan to make from Locus another mapy.cz or google maps application, it is not the point here. I'm just trying to be more careful here and make this completely new feature rather more simple now and improved later, then opposite = complicated now and reduce functionality later.

Anyway as we all may see here ... it's just few of us here and so many opinions :). I'll try to sumarize it little bit in my head and create optimal solution for most of us ;).
Yes if they can not understand it they use another app even without offline maps but more simple and their choice goes to the most downloaded from the store (with 10.000.000 download) and with poor features.
I always offer to install locus free but they have not time to spend to acquire the necessary skill.

@zossebart : because it's not yet public version, I do not expect new ideas on help desk, so maybe later. Anyway really for now, keep it simple

@Andrew Heard: I see here two differences compare to Garmin. 1) I'm currently unable to simply backup all settings like this. We may improve restoring of backups over backup manager ( restart will be anyway still needed ), but it's really almost impossible to include everything into preset. 2) how system you mentioned in Garmins, allows to define which settings to restore? There is no such option, right? It simply save current state and later restore it and overwrite everything you meanwhile changed, am I understand correctly?

@lor74cas : well I try to simplify Locus Map as much as possible last months, maybe years :). If there is need for something like "but all starting settings are made by me", then I see a problem that such setup is even needed. Why it does not work after install without any setup for your wife/friends?
Because they all need to use locus without mobile connection with openandroidmaps but without the effort in locus store, they want the beautiful hill shading as me, they want the hide panel to see the entire map, someone want the dashboard I use and so on ...
They are scared about to put their hands in settings but they want all this features, if I help them they will use locus, elsewhere they will look for an other app.
Not all the users are gps/mobile/teach fan in other words nerds as us on this forum. With respect for all the nerds

I think presets need a little testing before it is clear what are the best ideas. It's probably not good to decide in a rush.
+1

Every friend I show locus tell me the same thing "beautiful but too complicated for my skill" all these friends are trail runner, trekker etc used to manage maps, they are scared about too many options menu etc.
In my opinion not only present needs a basic and advanced mode but every menu in locus.
My wife for example uses locus pro too but all starting settings are made by me.
A basic user is the 90% and wants something simple.
The 10% who wants a particular set up is skilled enough to use also a menu a little more complicated.
IMHO hello locus friends

I was thinking about it, but for me it looks like really complicated to say, what activation of preset will do. You will have to remember, which settings are included into preset based on some "color difference" in big settings screen? Hmm quite complicated.

I may simplify current system even little more to be closer (but not exact) to this.

Current system:
1. open "Presets" screen
2. tap "+" to add new
3. set it's icon & name and tap save
4. you are in list of preferences. Preferences are even now set based on current value in app and you may modify them
5. back button returns to list of "Presets"

We may simplify it little bit to:
1. open "Presets" screen
2. tap "+" to add new
3. set it's icon & name and tap save
4. you are back in list of "Presets" with new preset added to start

5. (optional) advanced users may modify it's values by "edit" button in context menu

So for basic users, this will look like Garmin style and option to modify it's content without need to create new preset will remain. Should it be better?

The second one the better, your method is what I badly tried to explain but what you create, with the list of settings, is better preset editing.

@balloni55: no problem :)

@Žajdlík Josef : thanks both issues fixed. I've removed "Dynamic elevations" from possible options, but remained in list. I've also prepared probably final version of "Presets", for now.

System used in Garmin is nice, but is not technically and practically possible to use complete! save/restore of all settings in Locus Map. Some of you use this already over backup manager, but it always needs a restart, so not the best solution.

So for now, let's start with list of options, that cannot be modified.
Content: fullscreen, shift map center, map resolution, map autozoom, auto-recalculate, map centering, map rotation, vector themes and dashboard.

When there will be need for another settings, we may discuss if list has still usable size or if we need introduce "advanced edit mode", that allows edit content of presets.

But you can use the Garmin method only for the settings you put in your preset.
You can write this settings in a different colour in the menu we are used to find them, then you save their state in a preset, change them and save for another preset, in this way it's easy also to store basic profile and you have not to replicate all settings for each profile and every setting is always at its place.

I have just been reading about Presets in the Garmin eTrex 10/20/30 user manual static.garmincdn.com/pumac/eTrex_10-20-30_OM_EN.pdf - page 29. Garmin calls Presets Profiles!

Summary:

  • Preset > Add - adds new preset using existing settings
  • Preset > T:Edit meta - call this "Rename"
  • Preset > Delete - no change
  • Preset > T:Edit content - no longer needed (see next point)
  • The exact list of settings is not visible to the user. No long/ complex screens of settings  - would make Petr happy and considerably reduce programming/ translations.
  • There is zero or one active preset. As settings are changed they are automatically saved to this active preset.
  • I think it would therefore be useful to again display "active" or preset name in red, for the active preset.
  • This model has radically simpler interface but I think offers same functionality, and faster/ more efficient to use.
So Garmin take a copy of current state of settings and gives it a preset name, good idea. Simple to create basic state to go back and to copy the settings of every special use.
