@lor74cas
Hello,
thank you for the report, this is indeed not wanted behaviour, your position should reappear as soon as you enable the data again and send the position update. I will try it out.
By the way the time limit in the public group before disappearing should be around 10 minutes. For private groups this time limit can be changed by the group owner.
My update freq is set to 300 so after two missed transmission it's normal I disappear from LT, what's wrong is that the transmitting device does not report any wrong transmission and when the signal came back, LT does not restart showing the position on the map

LT not working properly:
in the last few times I used LT during my runs, after a while the LT position disappeared and no longer reappeared on LT web or LocusPro.
The last time occurred last Sunday during a race so I investigate, you can follow this steps to reproduce the issue:

  • Activate Public LT on LocusPro(no track recording)
  • Wait to see you are detected on LT web site or on another phone with locuspro
  • Disable the data from the LT transmitting device
  • You'll notice that after sometime the position on LT web obviously  disappears, but on the trasmitting LT device I have only green feedback and no red ones of wrong trasmission
  • Now turn on data on the transmitting device, wait ... wait ... wait, but I never have back my position detected on LT web site
This simulates something frequently occurs when the signal is lost, or when, in the border areas, a roaming operator is switched, but when the device hangs up the network, LT should work again.

Another thing that often emerges in users' comments is that Locus is packed with features that most of them don't use. But these functions have a cost to support, development, cloud servicies, customer service, etc.
Many would pay for the things they really use, many apps for this purpose use paid plugins, such as Tasker. Is it possible to make paid plugins with subscription?
It would also make Locus lighter by installing only the plugins that one wants around a solid rock core with generic functions.
For example:
Locus Base
Geocaching Plugin
WMS Plugin
Cluod Plugin
LT Plugin
...
Also the updates would concern the specific plugin instead of involving the whole app every time.
Locus Base could also be free or donate.

It could also be a way to identify the services currently present in Locus that are uneconomical and under-utilized

I see two disadvantages here.
- missing Free version (currently used by approx. 60% of active users!) and

This 60% does not contribute to paying salaries, it only generates popularity in the store. If even a fraction of these went to the paid version you would have some profits.
There would always be a free trial period and subsequent periods that can be purchased at low prices.

- (mainly) need for current Locus Map Pro users, pay a subscription for next months. Which, as I wrote before, not what I want.

I'm absolutely convinced that is perfectly fair, to keep current Locus Map Pro working and updated for current paid users without the need for any additional payments.
Because of this, change of Locus Map Free to "freemium" application sounds for us still as the clearest and most flexible solution.

Any user of locus pro who paid 10 euros for his application after two years would still be willing to pay to support this software. If you give a year of free subscription or coins equivalent to those who have registered in the last year you will not disappoint them.

What about changing all without changing too much?
Why don't you use locus coins for this?
For example, I can buy 1200 locus coins and put them in my account, the monthly subscription coins are deducted each month. In this way those who want to activate locus for a month can do it without spending too much, for example on the 100 per month, the old users will buy locus coins for a year and so on.
You can keep special offers for those who buy large packages and everyone would be happy.
I would eliminate the free version. Locus 4 could be free (free to try) for new users for a maximum of the first week and then paid through the locus coins.
You can also give 1200 coins to those who have bought locus in the last year so as not to penalize them.

Are you using an OpenAndroMap V4?
http://download.mapsforge.org/maps/v4/
Italy.map
And
Slovenja.map
Those maps don't contain contour lines. Only OpenAndroMaps contain all the data Elevate needs to work properly.
Thanks now with v4 from OAM I see contour lines.

For me shadows are ok

At wide scale 30km locus crashed

It may be resolution-related. For me, items including contour lines only appear in MF V4 maps at (apparently) higher zoom levels than expected. I think that this is supposed to be to do with making the display resolution-independent but I don't understand it or like it.
Also, I get each map appearing twice in Smart Choice Maps.

No way, Elevate Hiking or City, flagged and unflagged contour lines no results.
I also used your suggested procedure using top left back button.
It's the same with elements theme.
I tried to switch from italian to english language to test if it was something related to, but nothing

contour lines not present on a map v4 elevate theme 4 but the shadows are correctly represented
Are you using city mapstyle? Check if contour lines are set.

Some observations:
- when using mapstyle menu and I'm changing mapstyle with Elevate and don't press the arrow top left/back button, but only touch the map, the mapstyle changes aren't applied (as it was before).
- probably known: zoom level/magnificaction can't be switched on when touching the map scale
- Edit: very much improved rendering of mapsforge maps at higher ppis, thanks to larger tile sizes; theme renders pretty much as intended, although not the same scale as in Cruiser or OruxMaps

Map v4: ok incl. multilanguage, ? symbol in the menu.
Just to confirm the ? symbol.
I'm not too expert in maps to give you the required help.
Just tested a v4 map with elevate 4 theme on my old phone.

For LT 4g 3g 2g doesn't matter, it works because uses just few byte at every update.
@lor74cas - how do you know it is just few bytes at every update? I have monitored the data using the excellent app GlassWire and it showed consistently over many hours ~294KB download/ 86KB upload per hour. This was LT data going up/ down each minute. For me (294+86)/60 = 6KB/minute. Yes, not a lot of data per minute but it appears to keep the phone working far more than simple offline track recording, and my experience is double the battery consumption which on multi day rides I cannot really afford.
Adjust the update frequency in the LT settings to a greater value of seconds so you have less update for hour and less battery consumption.
I use 300 sec for trail running so I have a 5 min update, for my case of use it's enough.
Walking 600 sec it's also a good value.

So now your experience is this bad? I have not enough experience with it yet, but I was thinking, there's just some sort of sleep() loop which should not cost much and then a http connect, some data, boom... not much battery impact, I was thinking.
BTW, at least on my device, LTE/4G costs a lot of battery, I always turn it off when hiking.
I use LT and I do not notice so much battery consumption.
I usually downgrade the data connection from 4g to 3g or 2g to save the battery.
The problem is not the type of connection but phone always searching for the best speed so when you are not at top speed the phone searches for a better connection consuming battery charge. Here 4g doesn't have good coverage so I prefer a slower connection.
For LT 4g 3g 2g doesn't matter, it works because uses just few byte at every update.

- date format
Point taken, thank you. We will propose to the designer that we could use "DD MON YYYY hh:mm:ss" with moth name abbreviation.
If you use abbreviation you need to translate them in all languages, what about instead to use dd/mm/yyyy format and add the function of a explanation of the used format with a link on an ( Info link ) or a mouse hovering function over the date?

Also. I am not sure. Maybe stop of recording should not necessarily stop LT.

Tested in my case run rec profile with LT if I  stop recording also LT stops.
If I stop LT the rec continues.
For me it's ok.
