Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.4.+ ( 23. 9. 2021+ )
« on: September 26, 2021, 13:49:13 »
thanks. I see the problem in the editing of the track names on my own device as well. Consider as fixed ...

option to define the type of activity for already created recording profiles is not possible. You have to create a new recording profile. Some really old profiles (maybe 5+ years) do not have set an activity. Maybe because of this, some of you did not get proper value in the track name. You are using Locus Map just too long :)

Search system needs a big update > big plan on the Q1/Q2 of 2022. And in the route planner? You may partially use search over menu > Add point, or the long click on the "+" button.

I also get "Prague (Praha)" for my location. I'll look at it.

75% of height? There should be a reason for this. This should happen if you use screen rotation & navigation. When rotation is disabled, it should be at 50% as expected.

What exactly means "is not working..."? It does not work over ANT+, but works over BT4?

ah, this is definitely a bug, thanks. I'll look at it.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Route planer and estimated time problem
« on: September 07, 2021, 00:38:27 »
IMHO, personalized settings exposed to profiles, already available for bicycle and car profiles, should be implemented.

From the Route Planner/ saved track, we have 15+ profiles for calculating ETA; all a compromise; none include a powered vehicle profile even though many powered vehicles are available as the routing service.

Then to add confusion (maybe just me) there are different set of 35+ track activities; many of which seem to serve the same purpose/ overlap with the profiles, but here there are 9 powered "transportation" options.

Little bug.  Going cross-country (using the zig-zag icon) doesn't record any elevation gain.  On the Android, this works as expected.

Yes, we know, this is kind of tradeoff. Web planner is not intended only for planning but also for exploring. When you are in exploring mode, you do not want accidentally click into map and start routing. We plan to add separate tab for the browsing later so it will be obvious if you are in planning (plan tab) or exploring  (explore tab).

Expanding and collapsing waypoints - is it still happening? I can not reproduce it (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.1.+ ( 4. 5. 2021 )

Yes, I am aware of this (temporary) limitation. Currently the term in the search bar is only matched against names of points in the local-unspecified language and the language of the client. Other tags are not taken into consideration. (Cannot be taken into consideration directly, as the OSM dataset is not the only possible source of data.) How this search is intended to work (and already works internally, with some minor performance issues):
Let us assume:
- Every point belongs to one or more categories.
- English is the language of client (mobile app or web planner user).
- "wate" is the term in the search bar.

1. A localized fulltext search matches "wate" against names (in local language and in english as specified). As you noticed exactly. Currently, this is the end.
2. Another fulltext search matches "wate" against small dictionaries of synonyms (thesaurus). "wate" could mean: waterfall, watermill, drinking_water, fountain, hot_spring. Why fountain, hot_spring? Because somebody has decided that water and hot_spring are semantically close enough. These little sets of synonyms, language specific,  are configurable on the fly, not stored in a hard manner.
So suggestions are proposed after points that match by their names. Are you searching for drinking_water, waterfall, watermill, fountain perhaps?
3. If we chose one of the suggestion, another search runs (Yes, I actually mean waterfall. Yes, i actually mean all accommodation possibilities combined by typing "room"). This time a localized search matches point by their category, not name. Only category is taken into consideration here, as a source of point can be e.g. Wikipedia, which is not tagged by OSM standards.
Hope this makes some sense, I attach some dictionaries (thesauruses), both specific and more generic to make it more clear.

route name > only recorded. Imported or planned has different names. Also, in the recent version, you may modify the pattern for the name of the recorded track, so ...
There's the timestamp there {t} - I was wondering - will you add more variables? Especially (next) city name is interesting.

I would love not to see "Best Interval".
Oh yes. Same, also the waypoints symbols aren't useful for me. Maybe at a later stage we can define which elements are shown, while the rest (their fullscreen windows) can be accessed via a submenu.

Dragging of this vertical line was possible in the previous version. Unfortunately it
  • highly collide with swipe up/down of whole bottom dialog
  • it also reacted on the drag even like it was a click on the chart > result was the move of the map on clicked place on the chart > stupid
So, I've rather disabled this behavior because it only complicated usability.
As @fresichneider and @Andrew Heard wrote, we need something to more precisely select a specific point on the track. I think @Andrew Heard is right, I would suggest inserting the selector buttons in the title part of the track as it remains visible.
The panel could therefore not only give information on the entire track, but also have a section dedicated to information relating to the point. Furthermore, in the information relating to the point, the distance from the beginning / to end of the track itself could be mentioned.
Another possibility would be:
There is a small button in the corner of the diagram. When I click this, a small window opens directly below the diagram. There I have a sliding bar that I can move.

Locus Map (4+) / Re: Web planner / portal

There are always questions about things that are already planned. There are also some who say that it is useless because some things are missing and go back to Komoot and ....
Insert a menu at the top. There the settings and history (what was changed and when, improved. And one more point with Panung future. Many people are already doing this.
In the view for future plans:
1. planned in 4 weeks
2. later

This way you can avoid a lot of questions. And people stay with Locus and wait.

Unless real utility can be found for this feature, integrating it with the options I wrote above (and all the complications of the case), it should be removed, useful and solid functionality better than things like this that do nothing but generate doubts in users.
@lor74cas I disagree on this aspect - although I doubt I'd use it much, I don't see that as a reason to remove it. In my limited desktop testing the results were interesting and within expectations.

The "generate" icon on the LHS (see screen cap) links to/ selects, the Locus navigation profile, so I assume this provides some degree of configuration to meet the desire of the user?

I use it quite a lot to be true. In areas I know, it is nice to simply let the app decide where to go without the need to think too much about it. Anyway, the current system is based on the GraphHopper online service and this does not have an idea about user preferences. This may be improved later in our own solution, but it will really take some time.

Anyway good point > I do not have exact numbers, how much is this feature really used.

Speed is included only in case, it is measured by any sensor. In case, it is measured by GPS or mainly computed from coordinates, it is not (and should not) be included.

@Viajero Perdido
weird problem with auto-update. Are you using automatic backup? Does it work? It uses the same system.
And change leaves at 7 days > you click on for example 4 days,, but it still remains in the UI visible as 7 days? Weird.
Anyway 7 days or 8 days, timing is not precise, so a day is delay is not a big problem, but should not happen.

Tools / explorer tiles in Locus Map
« on: April 20, 2021, 15:20:53 »
Hi all,

I made a little tool that shows explorer tiles ( in Locus Map, which makes it easier to plan trips to unexplored tiles. It's here:

(red are all explored tiles, blue is the maximal explored square)

It helps me find new places to go, and it's a fun way to challenge friends. Posting here in case someone else finds that useful.

Find inspiration here. Has streetname info and multiple route select.
Registration is free and you already get 3 free test attempts.
Download as gpx track + waypoints > Select Directions. (Locus compatible)

When is first displayed, or refreshed, the #1-point textbox isn't selected, so the mouse cursor is a default arrow icon instead of a cross icon. The user is therefore prevented from quickly adding their first point to the map, which is confusing. I suggest the #1-point textbox is selected by default.

As far as I know, the data will be updated 2 times a week. That should be enough.

Locus Map (4+) / Re: Locus Map - cloud/sync server
« on: April 09, 2021, 11:51:13 »
I couldn't post to helpdesk so I write here.
Yesterday I changed a lot of my folders and groups in the app but I forgot to turn off automatic sync. It tried to sync after every little thing I changed.
The problem is, syncing is now crashed. When I try to sync, it stays at 1% (tracks downloading), then the whole app crashes. Resetting the app did not help. Trying just to compute the syncing plan in the advanced settings gives the following error code: "rr$!, code: -1"

Please help, how could I solve this without redoing everything?
