Web portal & sync / Re: Web planner / portal
May 10, 2021, 20:10:29
I like the handling of bridges and tunnels.  (New?)  It appears to (now?) consider the elevation of both as simply the average of the endpoints, a straight line between the two.  Perfect.

In my city, there's one high bridge across the entire valley that's much more convenient than all the others, in terms of elevation effort.  The web route planner shows no dip into the valley, thus doesn't penalize that bridge.  (LoRouter Offline does show a dip and avoids the bridge, but I assume that'll change shortly.)

In other words, thanks.  :)

Notable example:  https://web.locusmap.app/en/?planner=C7BOGcF8AEAMBsBWBXAJgYQMYDsAe0BvXAWwCEBugGQHsBxUAQwDcBTeAbnKA
(Though interestingly, the road bike profile would prefer to climb the pass. Fine.)

Hi.  I may have had a race condition while syncing tracks; both devices on 4.1.1.

  • Created a track by importing a KML, save.
  • Oops, tweak visual parameters (line style), save.  It syncs.
  • On second device, see track has arrived.
  • Oops, tweak visual parameters, save.
  • Notice it's syncing every few minutes, while I'm doing nothing more than browsing the map.  After each sync, report says it pushed a track.  I had the sense it might go on forever.  (First device unavailable, possibly asleep.)
  • Tweaked visual parameters again on second device.  Syncs once or twice, and stops, aah.  :)

Sharing planned tracks that were sync'd from an Android, eg this one, doesn't always work.  (Error message, try again later.)

(Note to self, avoid embarrassment, always double-check links before sending to people!)

Also, do these links really need to end with periods?  I noticed my email client (Thunderbird) likes to NOT include the periods as part of the link, which could be a problem too.  But even with the periods, sometimes the link doesn't work.

Beta 1012, I'm happy to report, fixes both parts of the LoRouter auto-update issue, on both my devices.  Good job.  (While in a web browser a bit later, I did see a mysterious "Process successful" toast, but I figured out where it came from.)

Not sure if it's Locus, but twice recently (with the previous beta), I couldn't get the keyboard to pop up when entering a name for a newly-created waypoint.  Had to abandon my averaged waypoint because I had hit "x" to delete the default name, couldn't enter another, and it wouldn't accept a waypoint without a name.  Restarting Locus made the issue go away.  This is Android 9 with Swiftkey Keyboard, and like I say, maybe not a Locus issue.

I can duplicate flyingman's issue (latest beta).  Tap a G4L cache.  If it says "Updating cache", then the title bar doesn't scroll.  Tap the same cache a second time.  If it doesn't say "Updating cache", then the title bar can scroll up, showing more text info below.

I prefer the second behavior.   8)

The text should be "save current part".  The word is often mis-translated to English, eg Spanish actualmente should be currently (correct) not actually (very different).

With the new track details (latest beta), I like the behavior when you tap a track on the map.  You get a small panel with the ideal amount of detail: the four key numbers, and an elevation chart.  You can swipe up for more, down for less and to get rid of it.  To me this is ideal.

When you tap a track in the track list (sometimes, haven't quite figured out the logic), you get a large panel that takes most of the screen.  Here, you can't swipe to make it smaller or make it go away; swiping only scrolls if needed.  To me, this is much less ideal, and I'll be forever trying to swipe it down to shrink.  Any chance to make it consistent (like the first paragraph above)?

Also, in the second case (non-swipeable panel), I sometimes have trouble exiting by tapping the left-arrow in the title bar.  Even when aiming and tapping carefully, it doesn't react maybe 20% of the time.  I've seen some map behavior that suggests my tap is directed to the map behind the arrow instead.

I don't think so.

But...  When you have WiFi and are planning, you could visit the LoMap download pages in the store for all regions of interest, and force a routing download there.  Then possibly force an update of all routing data in the LoRouter setup area.

In my case, that's 3 Canadian provinces.  For someone else, it might be all of Europe.  This workaround might be reasonable unless you'll be planning worldwide travels without knowing the countries in advance.  :)

Right.

The LoRouter issue isn't urgent for me at all.  But I know it's a major selling feature, and I'm happy to help debug it.  Let me know how I can help.  Cheers.

EDIT: Forgot to mention.  I tried changing the auto-backup settings as you suggested.  ABU does seem to work, but it didn't help with routing data, sorry.  I'll report back if anything changes, such as a missed backup.

EDIT: I created a help topic with new info.

Hi.  Quickly tested 1008 on both devices.  Still no change, sorry.

I did notice an automatic backup finally happened about 7 hours ago; the first from LM4.  (Did I install 1007 beta 3 days ago?  I've got ABU set for 3 days.)  But router files still haven't updated; both devices.  On phone, files now 10 days old; interval is stuck at 7.

Both devices do report a gold subscription (though tablet oddly doesn't say GOLD at bottom of main menu; I think just a display issue).  And other gold features like sync work just fine.  But I definitely can't change the router update interval.  Like you say, weird.

I have to run now, meet some cachers with a ladder.  :)

Maybe I shouldn't have set up LM4 by restoring settings from Pro?

Looks like I do have Auto Backup enabled (via the restored settings; I haven't touched this), slider says Enabled, every 3 days, 5 files, cloud box unchecked, "No path defined".  But folder Locus/backup/auto contains only older files with "Locus_Map_Pro" in the name, weeks old (before I stopped using Pro).  In other words, auto backup doesn't seem to be working either.

My router files are now 9 days old vs the 7 days setting which I can't change.  And yes, immediately after I change the setting, to anything, there's a beta popup (always "Pref KEY_I_BRH_AUTO_UPDATE_FREQUENCY3, setValue"), after which it then always shows "7 days" in red in the LoRouter Offline dialog.

Maybe there's some invisible cruft in my settings?  Those settings have a long history, and sometimes I've had to fix up invalid folders in red when jumping devices.  But not recently, and not (I don't think) when migrating Pro to LM4.  My "Default directories" dialog in both is clean, all default.

I'll turn on logging and see if anything jumps out. (No.)

Update: my tablet (same beta version) has the same problem, except it's stuck on "month".  I remember I'd chosen "month" for the tablet and "7 days" for the phone earlier, and now can't change that setting on either.

Hi.  I'm having some trouble with auto-download of LoRouter Offline data in beta 4.0.2.3 with Gold.

  • I noticed the files in Locus/router/segments4 (internal storage) are all dated 8 days ago.  I've got it set for 7 days auto-update, and when I check manually for updates (without OK), it says there are many, a mix of patch and new.
  • Tried changing to 4 days, waiting, exiting, restarting, planning a route.  Still no automatic update.  Nothing in notification centre.  Then I noticed, changing auto-update to any setting leaves it at 7 days.
I guess this belongs here, since I'm using the beta.  Thanks.  :)

"Suggest round trip" - yes, slightly better & shorter text too.

In English, "Route Dreamer" might also work, as in, dream up a plan.  :)

Planner for when you know where you're going,
Dreamer when you're open to ideas..

And if I may offer an idea for an enhancement...  Route Dreamer sometimes routes me right out the other side of the local wilderness area, suggesting I add kilometers on country roads before returning to the green area and finally returning to the start point.  In bike- or walk mode, I'd much rather spend time inside the green area than on a dusty farm road.  Just a wild idea; simple matter of programming (SMOP), right?   ::)

Or...  "Route Suggester".  Sounds a bit quirky, in a good way.  Since you already have "Offlinizer", it would fit right in.

Quote from: Andrew Heard on April 17, 2021, 23:59:43now I am more confused - how can a route be generated (completed) if there is only 0 or 1 points in existing route?
I had the same confusion, with nothing more than an error message to guide me.  I assumed (like others?) that you use that function after you've drawn the route to your destination, then it [does something magical] to get you back.

No, that's not the intent, you eventually figure out.  May I propose, "Suggest round trip"?

In areas with few roads/trails, sometimes 15km turns into 80+.  Is 15 the one-way or round-trip?  Who knows?  But often, I get far more distance than I expected.  Though in one experiment, it showed much wisdom in choosing a route, only lightly longer than requested, to a major viewpoint and back.  :)

I did a little behind-the-scenes beta testing of some updated profiles (thanks Radim!), so can suggest that the profile I uploaded above will soon be obsolete.  :)

To clarify, in my part of Canada, the majority of roads in farmland (example) or forest (example) are unpaved, but usually gravel and often in good condition supporting speeds of anywhere from 30 to 80km/h. We generally take the shortest path.

Also, our roads are almost always on public land and legally accessible to the public.  (If not, well, we try to tag it as such.)

Sounds somewhat different than Europe.  :)

PS, without my tweaks, above, "Avoid unpaved" had no noticeable effect.  It would always "avoid unpaved" regardless.  (In English, "avoid" is not absolute, it suggests "avoid if practical".)
