This problem is back.  Both Locus (non-beta) and G4L are up-to-date as of today.

I don't use G4L day-to-day, but needed to diagnose an unrelated problem, and suddenly noticed, once again G4L doesn't work.  It claims periodic updates are off, but they're actually on.

This is far beyond the call of duty.  Thank you!!!

PS, both fixes work quite well.  (I can't believe how fast you guys work!)

@Viajero Perdido: problems with incorrect number of files will be solved in next version. Some popup of unwanted screen is interesting. Hard to fix without steps to simulate. Does it happen again and again?
Hi Menion.  I can duplicate it SOMETIMES, though it's not annoying.  You need a long list of PQs ready for import.  Here's what I did:
On my medium-resolution phone, I went into Geocaching Tools; on my phone "Middle Point" is the last thing visible; the explanatory sentence was not.  (I'm not using full-screen mode.)  I tapped Load Pocket Queries, and that showed a list longer than the screen.  I scrolled right to the bottom, and selected the single checkbox at the bottom.  Tapped Import.  That brought up the screen for that PQ.  Tapped Cancel.  The Line Tools or Middle Point dialog (can't remember now which one, sorry) was showing; I'd briefly seen it pop up and then get covered by the PQ dialog.

Today I was only able to duplicate this once, sorry.

I hate bug reports that can't be duplicated.  (I've been in your shoes...)

Ah, a fallback mechanism, got it.  When I wrote that, I thought it was showing "Restaurant" for all such POIs, but I see now it's only doing that for "problem" POIs like the one I pointed out.  That's not so bad.

But Hanoi is full of those problem POIs, if you need something for testing.

Thanks for the quick fix on "en".

A couple of minor glitches in 3.25.1 (non-beta):

When I imported 6 PQs at once (from Geocaching Tools), the progress dialog said "files: 7".  Happened on both my devices, and I carefully counted my checkboxes the second time.  Six.

When I imported a single PQ from the bottom of a long list, the Line Tools or Middle Point dialog popped up unexpectedly.  Either my tap on the PQ checkbox or the tap on the button to begin importing was also received by the Geocaching Tools panel behind it.  Right around the bottom of the screen.  (I'm not using full-screen mode.)

But the imports seem to be working fine, so no big deal.

I'm going offline soon, so won't be able to reply to anything.

I just noticed something odd, and since you guys are talking about language issues, I'll mention it.

I downloaded the Vietnam map from the store last night, and I'm seeing a lot of POIs prefixed with "en" on the map.  Investigating, it seems that any POI that has a "name:en" but not "name" tags has the "en" part rendered on the map, eg "en Banh Xeo" corresponding to http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/4504245791.  OSM history tells me everything is normal at that end.

Beta does this too.

BTW, wouldn't it be more useful for the hover text to say "Banh Xeo" instead of "Restaurant"?  I already know it's a restaurant from the icon.

Thanks.

Simple solution: Keep the Android and continue to use Locus.

As you may know, Locus is very functional even without a data connection.  Load some good offline maps, move the SIM card to the new phone, then consider the Android a handheld GPS unit.

With latest Locus Pro and G4L, on one of my devices I can't activate G4L's live map; it says I need to enable Periodic Updates - even though it IS enabled.

Just tried the Locus beta.  It works.   :)

So I just need to wait for the next full release.  No worries.

I would love to see this fixed!

Town names, national parks, etc. are often truncated or missing entirely.  It's especially noticeable with nature reserves with long names, which get truncated regularly.

I would be glad if animated GIFs never work in Locus.

On the PC I can turn that off in Firefox with an about:config setting.  If I knew how to turn it off in Android (especially the built-in browser some apps use), I would.

Did somebody say compass jitter?  I'd been meaning to come here and [cough!] point it out, but it seems like you already know about it.

With the current Pro non-beta (as of 6 days ago), walking to a cache (above the threshold speed) caused the compass to orient incorrectly (not to the direction of travel) and/or swing wildly, whether I had hardware compass enabled or not.  And on a cloudy day I couldn't resort to the sun indicator to make sense of it.

I'm encouraged to hear you've probably already fixed it.  :)

I don't know where the rest of this conversation is, but it gives me hope.  I would LOVE for major labels (eg a city) to not disappear at certain zooms, especially when I'm lost over the map and trying to *find* that city.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to all

Hi.  Just looked at this for the first time, and skimmed the wiki.  (My head is spinning.)

In the Locus UI, may I suggest: "Wet conditions".  That means, in a general sense, things are wet right now.  "Is wet" implies knowledge of the route, but you haven't been there specifically yet.

For the explanatory text, maybe "Avoid route that may be difficult in wet weather."  (In North American English, the term "road" doesn't include trails, which are part of this.)

(In spite of my user name, I'm a native English speaker; Spanish is just a hobby to support travel.)

When in offline mode and you try to view online map tiles, Locus shows a placeholder tile with directions to the offline mode checkbox.  Brilliant idea, BTW.

With recent changes to the setting structure, it needs to be reworded.  :)  Noticed in the current beta.

And a great feature it is.  It tells me, for example, to keep my shadow at 2 o'clock when I'm navigating through the forest to a cache.  Please don't ever remove it.
