Other features / Re: MapsForge maps V4/V5

Quote from: freischneider on January 03, 2019, 17:44:00Locus does not show all themes on V4 maps.

This is the big one for me.

I've collected every V3 external theme I can find, 29 of them!  With V4 maps, I only have 3.

I jump between themes a lot, trying to find the best-looking map (yes I'm shallow) for any given situation.

I was going to ask if there's a way to force V4 maps to show V3 themes (I can accept imperfect, and might resort to editing theme files directly), given that OAM will stop supplying V3 maps, but maybe you'll have a solution by then anyway.  Thanks for looking into this.

Oh, and text labels.  I wish cities wouldn't lose their names so often.  Sometimes I'm lost over the map; where am I?

Maps / Re: LoMap updates

Yes.

Notice the price: very very low.  Barely enough to cover the cost of the bandwidth for your download, plus maybe a little extra to pay for the server that crunches the updates.

Just gave a quick test with G4L, but everything there seems to work for me.

But, tapping Load Pocket Queries makes it crash.  Report sent.  I don't know if it's relevant, but Groundspeak was sending error 500 codes earlier in the day; maybe that messed up my login state.  "Profile not loaded."  But even now that Groundspeak is properly sending PQs again and after restarting Locus, it still crashes.

I don't mind the lack of a confirmation on exit (never used it, if it was available), but could understand why some people might like it.

  • It takes a while to start Locus if your database is full of stuff.
  • Sometimes I exit by mistake by mis-pressing + or - to zoom.

But no big deal for me.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Updating Geocaches

Remember, this is not important to me!

But as a puzzle cacher, and ex-software developer, I know well the frustration of a puzzle, even a trivial one, that you can't solve.

Idea: could the space for the arrow be too narrow, so it word-wraps down to the next line, but there's no room for a second line?

I do see the little "v" arrow, yes, the one beside "Not specified", the one that brings a list with Walking, etc.

But still no arrow beside the row of smiley faces.  That's with 3.31.3, even on the tablet where there's plenty of room.  Strange, isn't it?

Old issue with an invisible button is still there?? You see only images of logs and not a small arrow on the right side?
Right, I've never seen it on either of my Android 6 devices, but I can tap it if I guess the location.  (Low, really low priority.)

"Retracted" cache listings are unrelated to Archived ones.  "Retracted" is rare, by reviewer action, and happens (I believe) only if a cache has never been found.  It's equivalent to "doesn't exist, never existed".  On the website, attempting to view a retracted cache gives an "unpublished" message, the same as you'd see with a random GC number that hasn't yet been assigned.  Via the API, it's likely equivalent to the code for "this GC number doesn't exist".

Hope that clarifies.  :)

PS, GC6YB6K mentioned above is strange.  It's archived, not retracted.  But there's no Archive log, something I've never seen before.

A good time to fix the invisible (but working) Logs button beside the row of smileys?

I've never actually seen it, but it saves me a bit of lifting of a 5-pound arm to tap the tab instead.  But I don't always guess the location on the first try.

:)

I wasn't expecting you to do that, but thank you!

(Actually I like the annotations, such as the Caribbean country names pulled out; that's a nice touch.)

One size does not fit all, I agree  :-)
Right!  That's why we use Locus, isn't it?  So we can choose from all the maps in the world (or so it seems).
#190
Yes, greatly appreciated!

Though I'll agree with John, a little less detail would be fine.  (I don't mind the current level of detail though.)  I only use the base map for orientation as I'm zooming in to somewhere.

Thus, more prominent borders would be useful.

And ... how do I say this tactfully? ... Z4 really stands out with the bold colors.  But I'm not interested in geology, just borders at that level.

But these are just minor nits.  This was a very welcome upgrade, thanks.

Minor:  In geocache logs, bolded text like **this** isn't handled quite right.  Usually Locus displays that like *this* instead of as bolded text.

Also, I've seen a paragraph (my Attended log on GC7NA5Z) where a **bolded** and an *italicized* word in the same paragraph cause the text between those words to be italicized instead.  A bit odd.

(That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.)

I tinkered some more, and now it all works!   :D

Maybe it was the reboot after uninstalling G4L that fixed it.  (I did accidentally have Beta installed alongside Pro when I made my second post above.)  Anyway, after some uninstalls (everything but Pro) and a couple of reboots, and reinstalling G4L, life is good again.

Thanks for the help!
#193
Also, when I'm in Cache Details (any tab) and go "Update cache" or "Download logs", G4L downloads the data, but Locus doesn't refresh.  I need to exit Cache Details, then re-tap the cache to see the new logs.

Is my installation totally messed up?

Is this related to all my settings disappearing a few updates ago?  Something corrupted maybe?

If it's just me having this problem, I guess I'll have to back up my maps and uninstall/reinstall everything.
#194
I find Beta troublesome because it seems to mess up G4L in Pro - when I just want to USE the app combo to plan a trip.

Right now, when I enable Live Map in G4L with Pro, it keeps re-downloading caches endlessly, even though I haven't moved the map.  This is with Beta uninstalled.  Eventually Groundspeak's servers will say enough, it won't work for the rest of the day.

How can I un-mess-this-up?

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled G4L.  Beta is UNinstalled.

Please don't ask me to uninstall Pro.  I've got a ton of customizations I'd hate to lose.

Thanks in advance.

(Earlier, I had the opposite problem: G4L downloaded caches, but Pro didn't display them.  In the process of trying to fix that - by reinstalling Beta temporarily - I made it worse, as described above.)

Troubles & Questions / Re: Locus Store
April 20, 2018, 17:30:57
Psst, Canada Base Topo is a horrible map, obsolete data, not worth the time to download.  OSM (eg LoMaps) is much much better.

Besides, after using that map for more than a minute or two, Locus always locks up.  Maybe it's because of the funny non-north alignment, I don't know.  But menion, don't waste time trying to fix that because, have I mentioned, it's a horrible map so I don't care.  :)
