what is the major problem you face with the Route planner?

Ah, confusion I guess, pilot error.  I know I can tap a POI (a geocache) and up pops an option to add it to the route, ideal.  So now I want to tap the icon where I started the route, to return to that spot.  Tapping this kind of live point brings up, basically, a dialog for advanced users: a triangle, a box, a bent arrow, and a User Guide link.  Aaagh, back up!

So basically, different behaviour when tapping a live point, depending on the style of point (geocache vs triangle).

I must remember, do not touch triangles, instead hit the "+" button always to add to the route.  And I should finally read that manual, yes.

Noticed some usability problem in Route Planner, probably always been there
It's been a UI glitch as long as I can remember.  You can't plan a perfect round trip by using your start node as your finish (it does annoying unexpected stuff), so instead I just zoom in and finish at another empty area nearby.

No, I don't totally understand the route planner.

When geocaching, I miss the button to jump to the website of the cache.

Reminds me...  I spent a little time with the beta, sofa-testing, and recording a few tracks.  Apologies if any of my comments have been mentioned already; I haven't followed that other thread closely.

I like that I can set the compass page as a one-tap option from the map.  (I complained about that recently.)

I wish a tap on the geocache log ICONS would have the same effect as a tap on that tiny arrow, take me to the logs.  I use the logs a lot, and the arrow is a tiny target.

"Cursor distance to GP." is confusing.  Firstly, I can't imagine what "GP" is short for.  Secondly, isn't "cursor" the cross hair showing the map portion of interest?  That's my understanding of "cursor" in English.  Instead, this number appears to show the distance from current location to the selected point.  I would use "Current distance" as a label.

Somebody asked me to try switching between multi-cache waypoints.  Yes, looks good, I can use this.

Some POIs show bilingual, including a language I don't use, eg "PicnicSite/Picknickplatz".  (An OAM issue?)  If I switch between POI sets, they seem to accumulate so several appear at each point.  In the past this has been useful: I'd select a LoMap to activate the POIs, then an OAM map because I like those better (V4!!!).  (But usually I don't enable POIs; find them a bit distracting.)

Overall, looks great!  I see you've been busy.

Have a look at Blackview.  They have a line of rugged phones, and I've just received my second one, a BV9900 Pro that I'm very satisfied with.  It works like a charm with Locus.  My previous Blackview survived, among other things, a short quick roll down a 45-degree slope before a tree stopped it.  There are videos of the phones being abused quite severely.  If you don't mind ordering from AliExpress...

There's a thread discussing the phone here:

PS, it has quad-constellation support!  Single band though.  Still, a fix with 25-29 satellites is pretty darn good.

Cache size ... what?  (I only skim this discussion, but this caught my eye.  Haven't actually looked at LM4 in months, sorry.)

When doing guidance to a cache with LM3, I really wish the panel showed the cache size somewhere.  I hate having to tap and waaait to load the full details to find out that detail.  Also, D/T are poorly readable, blue on dark grey.  Need my glasses to make sense of those.

Also, it must be a hundred times I've tapped the guidance arrow, hoping to get the full-screen arrow, but instead having to waaait and get the full details instead, which I didn't want.  That's misleading UI.  My brain stem sees a small arrow and wants a big arrow, so it taps the small arrow.  Wrong.

And is there any way for a tap on the compass icon (above the arrow I keep tapping by mistake) to go directly to the large guidance arrow (very useful) instead of always to the satellite screen (barely useful)?  Many times when trying to swipe away from the satellite screen with my thumb (other hand busy), I accidentally turn off "getting location", and swear.

These are all usability glitches with LM3, and here's your opportunity...  Thanks for listening.

"Save actual part" is wrong English, it must be "Save current part". Well, unless Andrew (or some other native speaker) disagrees with me here...
slarti76 is correct.  In English, "actual" does not mean "current" (unlike, say, in Spanish, actualmente.).

(I'm not paying attention to LM4, but do get these posts on my RSS feed.)

"Turn on/off getting location" is sometimes using the wrong word in the current Pro as well, and has for some time.
1. View satellites while "getting location" active.
2. Turn off screen
3. Turn on screen, unlock*
-> "Turn on getting location" while actually getting location.

(* Two devices with Disable screen lock = basic)

I cant use your prefered editors, because I am on Apple.
Visual Studio Code, suggested above, does work on Apple.  https://code.visualstudio.com/Download

Also Linux, which is good news for me.  One of my to-do list items has been to find a decent editor for themes.  A task I've been sort of dreading, sort of looking forward to...

@Andrew Heard
probably some problems with the auto-loading of maps.
Oh speaking of which...  I see the opposite effect.  I often have several OAM maps that *could* be chosen for the selected area - eg current and older for "home" - and Locus often decides to show both at the same time.  Green areas get darker (rendered twice), trails get doubled if they've been edited between the versions.  Manually selecting the map I want makes the other one go away.

I don't have an exact recipe to trigger this, but it's not uncommon.

Hi.

On seeing the title, I was going to suggest themed vector maps.  But on seeing your mention of Elevate / Elements, it appears you're already doing that, using OpenAndroMaps.

Are you willing to do a little tinkering with the theme files?  They're plaintext XML files, so they're theoretically easy to edit, if (granted) somewhat hard to understand.

I've done this in the past, modifying a theme to suit my own sense of aesthetics.  Eventually gave it up, because the theme authors kept improving their work, while my fork stood still.

It still works for me in 3.44.0, thank goodness.  This is mission-critical for me too at the moment.

Can you download the GPX files to your device manually, tap to open, and let Locus handle it?

You need to be signed in.

It drove me mad, until I finally figured it out.

It takes me forever to realize, something different might happen if I long-press something.  I guess to me, it's not "discoverable".

Maybe that's because I grew up with computers, where there's no concept of a long-click.  Maybe young people automatically try long-press, I don't know.  Maybe you need "Tip: long-press things to make options appear.  [Got it]"

BTW, I once had a headlamp that had 15 or 20 functions, all controlled with a single button.  Want the x mode?  Click three times fast, not three times slowly.  Needed the instruction sheet.  I hated it, got rid of it.  (But, I only ever wanted a 2-function headlamp, whereas I'm willing to learn the 101-function map app I have now.)

Quote from: menion on December 22, 2019, 11:50:28If you mean "Show view", this is as well as "magnifier" in Map-screen content > Auxiliary graphics settings

I came here to ask, where did the magnifier go?  Now I know.  But I only use it for a few seconds at a time, then turn it off.  Hopefully there'll be a way to anchor a magnifier button in a panel, like there exists in Pro now.  (Couldn't find a way in 4 Alpha today.)  I'll never use the magnifier if it's buried three taps deep.

Also, I really really would like to continue using centered zoom buttons.

Is this new UI aimed at newbies, or will existing users have to adapt as well?  I've read somewhere, a significant UI change needs to be noticeably better - some percentage was mentioned - to convince people to switch.  At the moment, I see more things that worry me, than things that please me.

PS, Pro is almost perfect now!

Further to the idea of moving the zoom buttons...

I just realized, when I'm holding the tablet in both hands and browsing the map, with the current layout the zoom buttons are right below my thumbs.

It couldn't be more perfect than that.  :)
