I've been playing with Sync (gold).

Firstly, I couldn't save a route from the web planner.  It said I had to sync, but I couldn't see a sync option anywhere.  Figured it out, sync on a device.

Secondly, I tried to sync on the tablet.  It worked but took hours with very little data flow, odd but maybe by design.  Subsequent manual sync on that device takes only a few seconds then reports success.

Thirdly, I tried to sync on the phone.  Always, after a minute or two, "Process unsuccessful 4/5".  (I wish there was a message that told me how to fix this.)  It never reaches 1%.  Clearing temporary data (in Locus) doesn't help.  Clearing storage and cache (via system) doesn't help.  Reinstalling doesn't help.  I sent a crash report; unknown if related.  I deleted 3 "Sync*" files, even that doesn't help.

Once, while doing something nearby (was it doing "Compute Plan"?  Don't remember.), it said Whoops! Stopped [gibberish] code 10601.

On the phone, the hamburger menu shows my name at top (I always login with Google) and Locus Map GOLD at bottom, and "My Subscription" shows a checkmark beside Gold Annually Exclusive.  On the tablet, same checkmark etc, but oddly, no mention of GOLD at the bottom.  EDIT: Both tablet and phone have 4.0.0, but I see my user ID is dramatically different length between the two?!?  40 vs 10 hex digits; is this significant?

The short user ID (on tablet) is f352c39341, in case it helps.  I'm not typing the long one.  :)

EDIT: Started up my backup phone (BV6000s), opened Locus Store (seems necessary), verified 4.0.0, Gold subscription checkmark, but noticed "GOLD" missing from hamburger menu, noticed user ID is short but different from other devices.  Sync.  On this phone it seems to be working: more progress than the other phone, at 4/5 and moving very slowly at 1%.  After some hours, I assume it'll finish.

EDIT: I did manage to successfully get a Sync Plan, but still cannot successfully accomplish the first manual sync, and Auto Sync is still greyed out.  I'm out of ideas.

Whoops, I didn't notice your reply, sorry.

You're right, it must've been something funny in Locus.  Since then I've upgraded to LM4 and reinstalled the themes, and it all works wonderfully!  Sorry for the false alarm.

Of the two, I particularly like the Outdoor theme, was using it with no problems on the phone, and am now glad to have it on the tablet too.

Thanks!   8)

PS, I humbly suggest these themes be added to the Locus Store.

Web portal & sync / Re: Web planner / portal

Hi.  My first impressions of the planner (with Gold) are quite good!  A few thoughts:

It'd be great if the planner could start at the previously-used location, rather than Europe as default.  (Of course, I could just bookmark the URL.)

Trying to move from Europe to my city in Canada, I tried a search for "Edmonton".  The search icon never became enabled (does it ever?), and the suggestions that popped up for "Edm" as I typed all seemed to be for the displayed area, Europe.  By the time I'd finished typing "Edmonton, ab" (which my fingers automatically type to center OSM), all suggestions were gone and the search icon was still not enabled.  (Two different browsers and platforms.)  This is minor.

Unfortunately, the planner uses web fonts for widgets.  I disable website fonts for readability, and this forced me to find a Firefox extension to toggle the setting. I'll have to keep toggling every time I enter/leave the planner.

Now a crazy idea: geocaches as an overlay.  Groundspeak uses a predictable URL format, including an encrypted parameter string that appears tied to your ID but doesn't seem to ever expire.  This is the overlay used in their web "browse" map.  I use it in JOSM (see attached) to see where the trails need more attention.  So...
Crazy Idea Level 1:  allow overlays with custom URLs.  (Security risk?  Don't know.  Useful?  Yes.)
Crazy Idea Level 2: offer geocaches as a special Gold feature, just click the checkbox ... with Groundspeak's cooperation of course.

...because many of us plan our routes from one cache to the next.  :)

Hi.  First off, congratulations - this looks great!

Just a few minor items...

The "Select Subscription" page shows for me (in Canada), prices with "$".  It's unclear whether that's C$ or US$; it's a perpetual source of confusion for those of us with non-US "$" money..  On the previous page (Premium), it does show "CA$", but I hadn't noticed.  (Both C$ and CA$ are understood here.)

I see "Weather" with the "silver" graphic beside it, but on the feature-comparison chart, it appears to be a gold feature.

I was perplexed at first to see "Map Manager" in three places on the hamburger menu, but before long figured out, I can press-and-hold to change the assignment.  Is there a way to make that more discoverable, press-and-hold?  (Maybe a popup, "OK, got it!")

And (per your previous post), I assume it'll soon be easy to attach a "magnifier" button somewhere convenient?  I use the magnifier a lot (old eyes), but only for a few seconds at a time.  So I'll never go through all the menus twice just for that.  (I know I can magnify everything; that's a workaround.)  Thanks!

Hi.  Occasionally it stops speaking for me too.  I keep notes in my phone to remind me how to make it work again:
QuoteLocus hangs at Settings / Language / Text-to-speech, dialog doesn't appear.  Go to system settings, Accessibility, scroll down, Text-to-speech.  "Text to speech correctly set" from Locus in background as system dialog comes up.  (If not, set preferred=Ivona TTS HQ, System lang.)
(Ivona is the TTS I have installed.)

Also worth czeching: is the language suddenly set to a language you didn't expect?

"Any idea what to put here instead of "Geocaching"? "Geocache metadata" is too geeky"

"Basics" maybe?

Not an ideal suggestion, because the stuff far above (D/T, size) would count as "basics" too.  It's not possible to combine the two sections, is it?  Both sections seem, to me, conceptually the same, even though there's other stuff between.

Distance and Altitude, currently at the very top, would seem to belong at the very bottom, along with coordinates under "Location", no?

The whole thing is organized in a way that doesn't make sense to me, I'm afraid.  Of course I can get used to it.

Roughly the same order as on a cache page?  Logs at the bottom, but - unlike a cache page - coordinates also near the bottom as they are now, because in this app nobody cares about the actual coordinates.  (On the web page, you might need to key them into a GPS unit, so coords are important.  In a map app, they're a housekeeping detail.)

Good news.  RC2 appears to have fixed the bug I mentioned, the disappearance of some geocache info after "update" or "download logs".

I did a bunch of sofa testing, changing one thing each time, but could reproduce the bug 100% of the time.  Then I noticed the update available, so I updated to RC2 and also updated G4L, after which I couldn't reproduce the problem at all.  (Though I didn't try as hard with different scenarios this time.)  This is with my old Android 6 phone.

BTW, a comment about the UI in the geocaching panel.  It strikes me as odd that in the lower part of that panel is a "Geocaching" heading.  But everything above that heading is specific to geocaching too.

But overall, looking good!

PS, "load all waypoints" only loads those within the field of view.  Have to zoom out to see which direction.  Happens in Pro too, but I don't remember this.

Hi.  Just did some sofa-testing of the pre-release version.  Using it in free mode for now.

I looked at a geocache I'd loaded via GPX.  It didn't show the favorite points (shown as "-", likely because not included in GPX), so I went Update.  Now, I couldn't find the section showing favorite points, the top of the scrolling panel I guess.  Had to exit that view and re-tap the geocache to see it.  A bug?

Hi.  First impression: I like the looks, however...

It drives Locus mad.  Even when a different theme is selected, Locus continually flashes: "Whoops ... invalid render theme version: 5".  This is with Locus Map Pro 3.51.0, an OAM V4 map, and the themes downloaded from your website, not this thread.  Before loading the themes, I deleted the four folders from earlier versions.

The problem seems to be in Outdoor.  When I deleted that folder, Locus worked normally again and I was able to use Desert.

EDIT: The problem went away!  I copied Outdoor to my tablet again, and this time it's working perfectly.  Strange.

EDIT: The problem is back, after Locus upgraded to 3.51.1.  I had to remove the two folders from the _themes directory.  I can't use an app that tries to induce an epileptic seizure with a flashing message that won't stop, complaining about a theme that's not even in use!  This seems to be a Locus problem.  (If it only affects me, I can live with it.)

Does Locus use WebView for this?

Google screwed up big-time yesterday.  They pushed an update of this Android system component that caused all sorts of apps to crash repeatedly.

Try updating your apps, or at least WebView and Chrome.  The problem might go away.

I experienced this when I went to bed last night (three apps, but not Locus).  I figured I'd deal with it in the morning.  When I searched for crashes-all-the-time the next morning, the internet was full of news about it.

I replied here because the other topic was already closed (within hours), so it's probably too late to make a difference.  I just wanted to discourage "Plain" because it has a negative connotation, ordinary, not something you'd see in marketing materials.  Cheers.

Maybe it's too late to affect the names of the LM4 tiers (that thread's entire lifetime seems to have been while I was asleep here in North America), but...

"Plain" suggests "ordinary"; that's the first thing I think when I see that word.  Plain as flat land is a very weak meaning over here.  May I suggest "Flatlands" instead?

what is the major problem you face with the Route planner?

Ah, confusion I guess, pilot error.  I know I can tap a POI (a geocache) and up pops an option to add it to the route, ideal.  So now I want to tap the icon where I started the route, to return to that spot.  Tapping this kind of live point brings up, basically, a dialog for advanced users: a triangle, a box, a bent arrow, and a User Guide link.  Aaagh, back up!

So basically, different behaviour when tapping a live point, depending on the style of point (geocache vs triangle).

I must remember, do not touch triangles, instead hit the "+" button always to add to the route.  And I should finally read that manual, yes.

Noticed some usability problem in Route Planner, probably always been there
It's been a UI glitch as long as I can remember.  You can't plan a perfect round trip by using your start node as your finish (it does annoying unexpected stuff), so instead I just zoom in and finish at another empty area nearby.

No, I don't totally understand the route planner.

When geocaching, I miss the button to jump to the website of the cache.

Reminds me...  I spent a little time with the beta, sofa-testing, and recording a few tracks.  Apologies if any of my comments have been mentioned already; I haven't followed that other thread closely.

I like that I can set the compass page as a one-tap option from the map.  (I complained about that recently.)

I wish a tap on the geocache log ICONS would have the same effect as a tap on that tiny arrow, take me to the logs.  I use the logs a lot, and the arrow is a tiny target.

"Cursor distance to GP." is confusing.  Firstly, I can't imagine what "GP" is short for.  Secondly, isn't "cursor" the cross hair showing the map portion of interest?  That's my understanding of "cursor" in English.  Instead, this number appears to show the distance from current location to the selected point.  I would use "Current distance" as a label.

Somebody asked me to try switching between multi-cache waypoints.  Yes, looks good, I can use this.

Some POIs show bilingual, including a language I don't use, eg "PicnicSite/Picknickplatz".  (An OAM issue?)  If I switch between POI sets, they seem to accumulate so several appear at each point.  In the past this has been useful: I'd select a LoMap to activate the POIs, then an OAM map because I like those better (V4!!!).  (But usually I don't enable POIs; find them a bit distracting.)

Overall, looks great!  I see you've been busy.
