Other features / Re: Update of map core (2019)
April 21, 2019, 23:13:30
My problem with scaling is that if I have adjusted the zoom with two fingers and end up with a display of, say, 75% of a certain zoom level, the text may be quite difficult to read. Tapping the zoom + button goes to the next zoom level, but still at 75% and leaves the text too small because the MF v4 renderer can't scale text (which the Locus renderer can do).

For V3 maps, Locus displays all the themes.

Locus does not show all themes on V4 maps.

Themes - Vector maps / Re: [Theme] Voluntary UK
January 02, 2019, 00:38:58
New version available in the first post in this thread.
The most significant changes are revisions to dashed lines for better compatibility with devices with later Android versions and the incorporation of Mapsforge v4 (multilingual) versions.
Plus, of course, numerous other small tweaks and improvements.

According to this blogpost on openandromaps.org (https://www.openandromaps.org/locus-direct-install-link-fuer-mehrsprachige-v4-karten), OAM plans to stop producing v3 vector maps as of mid 2019.

Fortunately, Locus is able to deal with v4 maps (provided as "ML" - maps from OAM) using the standard mapsforge v4 library (without the Locus-specific enhancements like automatic map loading). Btw.: what other enhancements does the Locus v3 implementation offer compared to the default v4 implementation? I remember something like rendering speed optimizations...what else?

The other thing is themes...currently I use some really nice Locus-specific themes I don't want to miss. I'd like to start a list of OAM-compatible themes and the availability of v4-versions. I try to update the list when I or others find out more details...

OK, I'm creating an additional "W1-8min" map, which has no additions to the background maps.
For ZL 8, only the settlement names stay as in the current version.
This should fit your tasts better, I hope.
One size does not fit all, I agree  :-)

This all looks like G4L has some problems with detection of currently active Locus Map version. This is something I fight with for some time, but it should be again improved in latest Locus Map & G4L versions, interesting.
Anyway if you remove your Free/Beta version, all should really work without a problem. Maybe rather restart device after un-install, just for sure.

*** 3.30.3 ***
New version published, thanks all for a big help with testing! Believe this version will work fine. If not, I'm as usually ready to do some fine tuning ;).

Enjoy rest of Sunday.

@Žajdlík Josef
And why should I know solution on this problem? Even that GPS system changed little bit, there is still no change in what Locus Map do with received locations > nothing. There are no modifications in received data, so sorry, I can't help here, device issue.

@tramp20
amazing, thanks. Is it possible that you did not change top/function panels for maybe "few years"? :)
Anyway problem found, fixed and quick bug-fix is on the way.

It has always been like that: When I use the "Favourites" function and call Google Maps (App!) with it and it transfers the map center position:

- Google Maps does center its map to the Locus Center position, but does not add its waypoint (that red balloon symbol). Is there something that can be done on Locus side?

Menion, it is a desire for me to thank you and the people involved super super much many mucho for the most important app on my smartphone :D You are such an important part of the outdoor scene. And still lots of potential customers, I hope. Because in the outdoor world there is so many people having no clue about smartphone navigation, it's weird. If I meet people using their smartphones for this, which is rare, they do it on very basic levels.

I don´t like the Star Wars startscreen. Whats the link between Star Wars and Locus?
How can it be switched off?

What's the matter with you guys that a harmless bit of fun upsets you? It certainly doesn't stop Locus being the best navigation app in history!

Themes - Vector maps / Re: [Theme] Voluntary UK
February 26, 2018, 16:56:00
Multilingual (Mapsforge v4) maps from OpenAndroMaps can now be displayed with the included Voluntary Mapsforge theme, which is only offered as an option when a Mapsforge v4 map has been selected. Voluntary Mapsforge is as similar to Voluntary UK as possible.
Other changes:
- Addition of switchable tracks in City and Roads styles
- "Blue" icons darkened to improve visibility
- Buildings under construction shown in latest OAMmaps
- Cable cars now hang downwards in Voluntary Mapsforge and Cruiser/Orux version
- Velocity colours revised (track/residential/runway/military etc)
- Voluntary UK national/international cycle routes set to red labels (as UK signage)
- Rendering order and style of roads under construction changed
- Alignment of passes; abandoned and active mine and military bunker now shown on OAMaps.
- Peaks appear at zoom levels according to their local prominence on OAMaps.
- Bridges align for cycle tracks on OAMaps.
- Race track bridges, tunnels shown.
- Paths etc slimmed slightly

Latest version in first post in this thread.

Themes - Vector maps / [Theme] OS Style
February 26, 2018, 16:34:35
Just for fun, I've produced a theme that mimics the UK Ordnance Survey styles as far as possible. It's available for free download here.

Good topic :).
Let's discuss basic plans for year 2018

I'll give here, at least, current state in our small team.

Little history:
I had (still have) large hope in live tracking system. Two years ago, I've hired one guy who wrote for me server side solution in nice Clojure language (after more then year of work!). And when first part was finished, he stopped to communicate. Nice .. btw. no one know Clojure :). My mistake ...

In November, some of you probably noticed, that our team had increased to 6 person. Milan > finally developer who should help me with Android. His first task was (still is) Wear add-on. Nice work I think ...
Since January, he work on 1:1 conversion of old Live tracking system to something, we may continue work on it and improve. ETA till middle of March. Then, Milan will work on new UI & various stuff around Live tracking system, also based on feedback. I expect, it will be work on few more months. And then ... sync server? ( most probably ).

Because number of people involved in work on Locus increased and for my suprise, all wants their monthly salary, and also because of number of sold Locus Map is still +- same ( slowly growing ), we needs to invest more work into interesting content, that may bring additional income. Because of this was created and published new Store, because of this I now needs to work on new system for login, new Start screen and third bigger thing will be new Map manager ( which is currently terrible user-experience ).

Most wanted feature: synchronisation. Some users wrote, it's now easy task with some existing stuff. Well, with Petr and Milan, we spend on discussions around this many many hours and we still do not have simple universal solution, that may be done within few weeks. Anyway few ideas are in our heads ... EDIT: and we also have it in list of top priorities!

Except few priorities, that I wrote before and that have to do ( even it's not kind of developement I like ), I really wants to focus in first half of year on:

  • better logging system for geocaching
  • fine-tune route planner
  • fine-tune track editor

And in second half of year

  • new design for main map screen ( close to what is visible in Route planner)
  • new track detail screen with better stats, chart, weather, etc.
  • improve Dashboard system & custom "dashboard" for track screen

My time estimates are really bad, so be aware of it ...
Uff, too long post ... sorry :).
