Themes - Vector maps / Re: [Theme] Voluntary UK
December 03, 2021, 19:05:56
The latest versions of the Voluntary theme are now available in the first post in this thread.
They have been revised for the excellent V5 maps from OpenAndroMaps.

In V5 maps, hike, bike and MTB routes can be displayed and highlighted independently of each other. The highlighting can optionally be colour-coded in the Hiking and Cycling styles.

I have updated the naming conventions and file locations. If installing into Locus, please delete all earlier versions first (long press in theme manager).

Other features / Re: Android 11+, changes

I would love it if ALL path configuration would be on one options page, with a clear terminology (eg "Internal storage / removable storage"), with the paths visible (currently they are hidden behind question marks), but clearly just informational, with information on free space, used space.
If there's no removable storage, nothing can be changed (?), then the page is just informational.

Ah, thanks that's the reason. I deleted Lomaps the other day,I always use OAM because MFV4. And if you display offline Lopoints via the eye symbol, poi from both databases are shown, ie many duplicates.

Here are the most relevant news – feedback welcome:

Release notes 202108-1.0

The density of settlement names has been reduced considerably for areas with names in two alphabets (latin plus cyrillic, arabic, chinese), hindi, etc.) and higher settlement density.

The names of places (not in the sense of settlements) now appear (*) in areas that are settlement-free, with a brownish border. With this edition, farms are also shown this way (hardly in Eastern China, Central Europe, etc., but in Australia and the US Midwest, e.g.).

The regional addons to the ZL-10 world map with a transparent top zoom level for Locus are dropped. In Locus 4 there is the max. re-scale mechanism which makes this overhead unnecessary. In Locus 3 the top level is zoomed in for 2 zoom steps before the vector map becomes visible as well.

At the suggestion of Sonny (specialist for DTM) the world maps get a prefix that makes the names less cryptic. For example, W1-10-J70.mbtiles becomes OAM-World-1-10-J70.mbtiles. However, for a few releases I will provide both naming schemes to give users more time to adjust the settings in their apps (with the discontinued model being marked as such).

Correction of the nationality of Agaléga Islands (SC -> MU).

(*) well, since April in fact, but undocumented

Hey, I may be weird or annoying, but this very small thing always confuses me...

I am expecting "Select all" on top - anyone else? It is the most likely thing to do. "Deselect all" is probably rarely or never used...

And in point screen it is at second place, in tracks on third...

Minor, I know 😁

Locus map is the best app for 4x4 offroad. Use it very often and very good indeed. For example the navigation guide, voice on navigation and waypoints is extremely useful in 4x4 offroad because we can concentrate in very complex/dangerous terrains without risk to look too often to the screen and go to a micro-dangerous part of the trail.
Also Orux, but very complex for me & any newbie.
But Locus lacks something to be perfect: 4x4 off-road profile, needed when designing routes and also when we need recalculate a track/route (example: new no-go area, that happens often in 4x4 offroad navigation). In Marketing this little thing opens Locus Maps to a new market: the 4x4 vehicles owners.
In Brouter this theme has been discussed. But I'm on Lorouter, because is the future for Gold subscribers.
The suggestion:
1. Reading maps I saw that they have MTB grades in trails;
2. After doing some trails I saw that
- Grades 0 & 1 - all the ones I've done are appropriate for 4x4 vehicles
- Grade 2 - generally appropriate for 4x4 vehicles (depends on its size & height & characteristics of vehicle); we can go around if a very narrow portion of trail appears with a no-go+recalc or visually searching in map an alternative
- Grades >=3 generally not appropriate for 4x4 vehicles; exceptionally may be appropriate, but should not be considered in route calculation; if we want go there we have the option to manually design the route by there

a) This is my first suggestion, for Locus team create a default Lorouter 4x4 offroad profile
b) Also if there is a way to manually create a Lorouter profile with those characteristics, please a manual or guide how to do it. This b) suggestion can be useful for other activities that need a different profile from the default ones.
Edited: MTB grades were wrong

Seems everybody is enjoying sunny/rainy weather (that is at least now in central Europe), nice.

Fortunately seems that I did not miss, because of the small holiday I had, nothing important. Fine. So enjoy summer  ;)!

Mentioned "Inspect" query may be one within the app with the "Quick bookmarks" feature.

Offline functionality > app does not have raw data available offline, so it is not so easy task :).

Web portal & sync / Re: Web planner / portal

New features in web planner
I am listing all the features added after LM4 lunch (April, beginning of May).

  • Elevation statistics in the planner tab
  • Altitude formatter - using only ft/m
  • Saved track detail - added elevation chart
  • Remove waypoint from the map - using context menu (right click)
  • Modify planned route by drag&drop everywhere on the segment (previously only possible by red handle placed in the middle of the segment)
  • Show / hide waypoints in order to prevent moving statistics out of the screen
  • Recalculate all segments
  • And several bug fixes and minor improvements :)

And we are working hard to bring you another set of new features soon. Thank you for your trust and support!

I'm checking if there is any reason for a delay and can't see anything suspicious. Video does not help here, so do not waste a time on it. Does also other screens and dialogs "lags" (some noticeable slow-down)?

@Žajdlík Josef
labels > good point, removed
route name > only recorded. Imported or planned has different names. Also, in the recent version, you may modify the pattern for the name of the recorded track, so ...

@freischneider
what about selecting a point on the big chart? There is already a system for zoom in/out and later display on the map. Seems that the "center" button does not work correctly now - fixed.

As I mentioned before, the display of the track detail as a bottom dialog is not possible on other screens than the main map. Technical limitation.

Change in time for BRouter downloader > little more investigating and I think I've got it, thanks. Try it with next version, hopefully, it will help with automatic updates as well. Because this issue caused that default "Disabled" value was used.

Actually I love the small Track-popup screen in Locus Pro because it shows me both the distance from the start and the distance to the end of the track. For me that's usufull information when hiking, often I don't need more!
In the new large Track-popup screen I can't find this valuable information, am I overlooking something?
The way I see it there is no longer the small popup. The replacement is the new track screen that can be swiped down. I love him.
You want to see other information there (at mapper)
Suggestion: There is an option in the settings where you can select the content of the pop-up screen. Perhaps you can choose which statistic fields are displayed in the window (max. 4 units). For more you have to use the arrow to the right.
Perhaps you can also select other fields there. I would love not to see "Best Interval".
One more point about this screen.
When I click on the track, this sub-screen opens.
When I select a track in the track manager, the full screen opens.
I don't like the full screen because it can't be swiped down (other users too).
Proposal in the settings select which screen should open when selecting on the map and when selecting in the track manager.

@menion urgent help required please: I don't know if this is related to MapGooglePlay_4.0.2.5_1010_beta but I've never experienced this issue of not being able to save a track before due to "unknown problem". Not a very helpful error message BTW ;-( It was a simple use-case of track recording > track save. 100% ordinary. There is plenty of free memory; I've tried rebooting; I've tried pausing/ un-pausing; I've tried selecting different folders & activities. So at present I have no way of further track recording which is quite annoying (yes, my risk of beta testing).

I next installed the latest 4.0.2.6 but the same problem. I note when exiting Locus there is the expected orange "paused" msg but then a generic Android error message "Locus Map has stopped; Close App " (no other details). I have captured & emailed a bug report to you.

I next uninstalled 4.0.2.6 & installed (revert to) MapGooglePlay_4.0.2.4_1008_beta which was working yesterday w/o this problem, and now I was able to save the track, phew, although now have to fix/ restore a lot of settings.

I exported the track & checked with Windows Garmin BaseCamp & looks 100% OK.

One last note: when I now go to the track list I can see that each attempt to save the track was actually successful, despite the error to the contrary - I have 10+ identical tracks. I will leave Locus w/o attached subscription account & not make any setting changes for now, in case the current settings/ state could be of interest to you.

Both "itineraries" have different use-case. In the route planner, it is mainly about the option to see all segments on one screen and the option to change easily it's order. In the active navigation route planner, it is about a common itinerary known from bigger navigation apps.
@Menion - for me it's the same use-case otherwise I wouldn't have suggested. For me it's to efficiently see the whole planned route (shaping, Via points, segments and road names), sometimes by confirming a known road name has been chosen (or not). At present my planning workflow is Route Planner > Save > Navigation (dummy test) > Itinerary > confirm {> Route Planner etc.}.

Quote from: Menion on April 23, 2021, 10:26:15
Can't imagine how to merge them to be true  ???
to merge in code or visually? I'd agree with @T-mo. Sometimes just a simple/ concise (textual) itinerary list without graphics would be perfect; other times the existing more detailed Route Planner itinerary is also perfect.

BTW my only two suggestions for the round trip generator were

  • change "Generate round trip" to "Suggest new round trip"
  • if more than one point is already defined, change the error message "Place a point on the map to define the start of your trip" to "To suggest a new round trip, please add at most one starting point"

hmm, it may not be connected to dark mode. It looks like that app is unable to pick the correct map for the preview so use the blank map. And because you use dark mode, it is black, nothing more.

Ah no big deal... may be related to my use of an OAM map. I don't use Lomaps because MFv3.
