I'm thinking about using some transparent PNG surface textures to overlay the road cores for "surface" and "tracktype", see attached (mock up in powerpoint).

Wondering what you think of this idea?

New version MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - Beta 6_988_beta, download

And do not forget on one new topic about the web planner ;)

Crashes should be fixed. @tapio, this is another older problem (missing feature). Not sure how many new things I'll be able to finish before we will release a public version ...

Web portal & sync / Web planner / portal
February 12, 2021, 20:32:44
Hi guys,
I would like to finally introduce the website we worked on the whole last year. Finally ...

Web planner / portal: https://web.locusmap.app

Core features
Without login or for the users without the Premium subscription

  • web planner with features close to the mobile app, with the ability to export the result into GPX file
  • online LoPoints with fast full-text search
For users with the Premium subscription (same as for free +...)

  • of course same as for free accounts +
  • your synced database of tracks, ready to basic analyze & (metadata) edit
  • automatic sync of changes to your device(s) within few seconds
  • and probably many more but who wants to read all this bla bla  :P

What (we are aware) is currently missing

  • web pages linked in the top toolbar
  • option to register new account directly over web
  • charts! (probably not ready till first public version)
  • ... you tell us

Onřej (@janaton), the guy behind this nice tool, is looking forward to some useful feedback. Use it please together with the new 'MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - Beta 6_988_beta' version, otherwise sync won't work auto-magically.

Well, that's all ... let's play  ;)

New release now available v20210210.

I have updated the first post with the latest release notes and links. I'm now using google drive to release the theme in a shared folder that contains all the releases and the PDF legends.

Mainly improvements are made for:

  • Added new/missing elements: customer/private parking, forest cutlines, ditch barriers, earth banks, gullies, hedges, military bunkers, post boxes, public artworks, town halls
  • Major improvement to rendering of all waterways (using casings/cores now)
  • Made visible some elements that got hidden by water areas: piers, tidal-flats
  • Added option to highlight cycle lanes/tracks - useful if you want to plan cycle routes using them
Many other small changes/fixed, see release notes for details.

Note that post boxes have alternative renderings based on if you set "drive on the left side" or "drive on the right side" overlay options:

  • left side = red circles as most left hand side driving countries use round red post boxes.
  • right side = yellow squares as most right hand side driving countries use square yellow post boxes.
NB: Remember that the default overlay options in the theme are set to hide non-OS symbols and road furniture. You'll need to switch these on to see them.

@tapio

so you mean this topic: https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/track_editor_swipe_through_points

that should look like this?  ;)

Thanks Willy. I've checked GraphHopper docs and added support for u-turn into Locus Map as well.

Menion, didn't you want to make bigger changes to the point system? The trackpoint screen really deserves previous/next buttons, we already talked about it.

"Dark color mode" for the map just invert map colors, nothing more. What you need is a directly created "Night vector map theme". Not sure if such a theme exists ...

My "OS Map" theme provides both day and night themes. It supports LoMap and both v3 and v4 OAM vector map formats. Link to theme post:

I'm not fast enough to handle all feedback quickly, sorry :).

@Andrew Heard
"Protective area" on tablets > hmm, will have to try. Anyway as wrote @luce below ... I was also thinking about it, but choose the most simple solution to do. Seems there is interest in this feature > I'll try to invest a little more time into this.

"Map refresh" > it will be harder.

Map color in dark does not change. For this already exists "Map color mode" settings.

@freischneider
ah thanks, stupid issue!

@WujTom
no problems with sync noticed. What exactly was the problem?

No change in plans ... just a usual small delay here and there :-\

Web for testing > final steps in progress - automatic sync after changes. Hopefully next week!

@john_percy, @jonny.blue
hmm, I'll look at it ...

@Ricardo Borges
"dark mode" settings into quick settings hopefully won't be necessary.

@Diddi
an interesting observation with the recording button. Never saw anything like this and I use recording almost daily. Any other UI problem except this button on the main screen?

Would it make sense so make the protective area around the zoom buttons also "touchable", so that the invisible area around the button is also part of the button? The zoom buttons are the only buttons on the map screen that are sometimes hard to target, also without gloves... Maybe also adding a little more space between these two buttons could improve this.

Yes, my request is to do it like brouter-web and dynamically parse and display all parameters from brf file.

I don't have a specific request for confirmed parameters, despite maybe the kinematic model parameters (totalMass, Maxspeed etc.), which are brouter-builtin.

All other parameters I would like to use mostly exist in single profiles only and therefor I wouldn't recommend adding them as supported to Locus just because of this one profile.
For example, I created an enduro-motorcycle profile on user-request which has a "non-standard" parameter to switch the avoidance of paths, or I consider adding another parameter to influence uphill routing on paths to my mtb profile etc...). Without support for generic parameters, I would have to generate separate profiles of all permutations of profile parameters like libor does, but it gets confusing and it's not easily switcheable for example in a routeplanner session (if the profile-variants aren't already assigned to the (limited) slots in Locus).

As I wrote before, I think it's ok that the default setting only shows the whitelisted parameters (as is now).
But I would like to have the possibility to enable "full dynamic parameter" mode in expert settings for power-users (which you clearly embrace with locus (intens, url favourites, bt-buttons, dashboards, quick pois, presets...should I go on with the list?  ;) )).
Maybe you could group the whitelisted parameters at the top of the settings dialog and show the other "non-standard" parameters below. Maybe with a caption "additional settings" and in a fainter color?

I never considered the position of the zoom buttons as a problem. Buttons are connected to the big centering button, not directly to the center of the screen. So it depends on the screen resolution. But yes, usually they are close to the middle.

The color of the buttons is an interesting topic. A single color probably can't be always "perfect". I'll maybe try to play a little bit with shadows > thanks for the tip.

Controlling is a problem with gloves ... always. Hmm, what you need is close to the existing "Screen lock" function, except this completely disable all taps. Hmm ...
Doesn't everyone use the volume buttons with gloves? ;)
That said, I also sometimes thought it would be great to have a "limited screen lock", where zooming and panning is possible, but no other interaction (except disabling the screen lock, obviously). During a tour, I often take out the phone to look at the map, and then I want to see what's ahead, but can't pan in Screen lock mode.
Dreaming on about this, why not hide all buttons and stuff in screen lock? They are useless and give the wrong impression they are active. Then screen lock would be just the map over the full display, allowing zooming and panning, and of course the slide from the left to deactivate it. Whatcha think?

Hello, I have a problem with routing that is apparently present in all the latest versions of LM4.

When using Brouter inner (in both Route Planner and Navigate To) with the car-specific profiles (Fast and Economy), directions are not created and this error appears:
Cannot create path-model:java.lang.IllegalAccessException: void btools.router.KinematicModel.<init>() is not accessible from java.lang.Class<o.tl>

I tried to look it up and I possibly found the beginning of the error in https://github.com/abrensch/brouter/blob/b4dd0edd44439a44178d36e7f13643167f24aa1a/brouter-core/src/main/java/btools/router/RoutingContext.java#L97 but I don't know Java, so...

I'm using LM4 on Android 11 in parallel with LM3 Pro, I already tried removing and reinstalling LM4

@blackpanter
thanks for testing!
1,2) bottom cuts are made as an intent to notify user, there is more content that may be revealed
3) texts for LM4 are not yet translated. This one will be fixed later.

@Raddino
hmm as you wrote, the link under the first image points to an invalid Url ...

@Andrew Heard
nice test, thanks!

So general problem > visibility and tapping on the zoom buttons.
I've just added a small "protective area" around these two buttons to prevent accidental clicks on the map in case tapping right next to it. More challenging is visibility. Compare to LM3, it highly depends on the background map. So I first suggest changing your map  ;D

Disabling POIs > hmm you mean keeping them visible, but just ignore tapping right? Nothing like this is currently possible. Anyway handling a map in gloves is a problem of course. Maybe a control of the zoom with hardware volume buttons may help here?

Rescaling of most of the UI elements does not work (yet).

Since some weeks LiDAR source data of the whole territory of France in its finest resolution is available as OpenData. So during the last weeks I created enhanced DTMs of France:
https://data.opendataportal.at/dataset/dtm-france

Additionally Wallonia (Souther Belgium) also provides their LiDAR sources in its finest resolution as OpenData. So I created enhanced DTMs for Belgium too, now the whole country is complete in highest resolution:
https://data.opendataportal.at/dataset/dtm-belgium

Have fun, Sonny.
