Hi guys,

there were some small changes in handling point sharing from Google Maps to Locus Map. If you encounter problems also in next version, please, let us know.

@Menion @voldapet
Doesn't Locus support the improved text break algorithm in Mapsforge? In the screenshot, the town name ought to break at a hyphen.

(As in https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/pull/1392 )

Yes. Find this. Generally, you can define colors per track or per folder.
As for slope, red is uphill, blue downhill, green even.

Maybe Google changed their output? However, an easy way for newbs is missing. And Locus should definitely understand latlon and pluscode formats in its new search.

v1.2.0

  • Minor changes
  • Paths (usually dashed lines) with asphalt/paved/concrete drawn like streets. With blue lines.

Yes I think paths are rendered as dashed all around, here it felt misleading for me.
And it takes the bicycle designation into account,hence blue.

I like the behavior Hide tracks for a short time very much now. There is still one small bug. After hiding, the map shows the hidden icon on the top right, along with the top bar. I have the top bar set to auto hide.
When I click on the hidden icon the tracks are displayed again. But the top bar does not disappear anymore.
Is it also possible to show only the icon without the top bar ?

Themes - Vector maps / [Theme] Tapiola
June 26, 2023, 16:20:18
I want to present you my theme "Tapiola".
You can download it here.

Tapiola is 100% tested with regional Mapsforge v5 maps (Germany->Nordrhein-Westfalen) from Openandromaps.org. Bigger maps (e.g., whole Germany) have a few less details included on certain zoom levels, but you probably won't notice it.
It also works with Lomaps V4+, but there are definitely issues.

The theme is a fork of the awesome Settler theme from Andrey, but slowly and steadily I made many changes and moved away from it.

My main ideas/goals were:
- Change colors to my preference
- City/town names not dependend on priorities at all. They will show up if zoom level allows it. Some names may overlap - but IMO it is important. A good overview is crucial for me. This way a was able to use smaller overview maps from OAM.
- City names following priorities were under risk of not being displayed. It happened that they were not displayed because a river had preference.
- Good visibility of hiking and cycling networks. Reasonable display of their names (like "X1"). Hiking color on one side of road, cycling on other, so both visible usually.
- Some themes show lines at some zoom levels due to few pixels of overlapping, I got rid of that.
- There's also some coding of track quality via display of lines on paths (OSM has a grade1-grade5 system) - more lines=less quality. 0 to 2 lines. Short+long line=Undefined. Zoom more in to see them.
- I reworked the display of road names, especially motorways, primary and secondary roads.
- In the themes options, I have made some changes compared to the Settler heritage. I combined some options.
- Less focus on hilltops compared with Settler.
- Benches, picnic tables, shelters, viewpoints have high prio and are drawn later, on top of other stuff - I'm a hiker.
- Parking has some over-the-top exaggeration. Many parkings are displayed. May change that.
- After all, you can turn on/off most things in theme options.
- I included OSMC hiking node icons (shameless copy/paste from John, his awesome Voluntary Theme) but I never really liked those. May remove them at some point.

Sorry, time is an issue, no pdf/html legend or fancy theme icon yet.

Here's a few notes as for the legend:
- Motorway: blue, Trunk: blue-greenish
- Primary road darker orange, secondary/tertiary getting lighter.
- White roads are asphalt, light brown more what you find in forests, less quality the more lines are on it (0-2 lines).
- Hiking routes are red, less important ones are interrupted lines. Cycling=blue, MTB=purple.

Download:
https://github.com/TapioOfTapiola/oam_theme_tapiola/releases/latest

Installation:
1. Download the zip file
2. Copy (don't unpack!) it into Android/[data|media]/menion.android.locus/MapsVector/_themes/

Just walk through the different zoom levels and see if it can help you. Have fun!

A few screenshots attached:
1. An overview map, I balanced the theme starting from Zoom level 8.
2. Notice the display of suburbs (can be turned off) for best overview but still no distraction
3. Display of hiking (red) and cycling (blueish) networks.

@Gerhard57
there seem to be some weird statistics for visible items. Do not know why this happened, but "Unload all" as suggested by @Graf Geo fix it. It is not a problem of sync with db (info for @Andrew Heard), because what is visible is help out of the database. Do not know why this happened, but because such stats were never visible till now, I never knew such issue exists  :)

@freischneider
thanks for the tips regards "hidden points & tracks", I'll improve it!

@Tapio
vertical-align - hmm few pixels off, good eyes!
long click when disabled - it is a problem and I consider the "disabled" state to be more important, sorry

@T-mo
start-up slowness ... I know about it and with a huge number of items on the list, it is hard for me now to improve it. For now ...
5000%  :-X .. thanks a lot! My bad.

@luce
Thanks for the feedback!

1. and what about simply replacing the "brush" icon with the same icon visible directly on the map screen? It does not make much sense to "Unload all points/tracks" when they are temporarily hidden.

2. German translations are out of my control. Feel free to contribute here: https://crowdin.com/project/menion/de

@Andrew Heard
I remember I was testing OS Map V4 theme and it indeed has incorrectly defined path in the "lnk" file.

Quote from: Andrew Heard on June 26, 2023, 05:16:22BTW with the Voluntary V5 theme, LM is redirected to the web browser and URL kmu.files.cnow.at with error "Bad Gateway". But maybe I have an old version.
That's an old version of Voluntary. Please install the latest Voluntary V5 Locus edition from https://voluntary.nichesite.org

Hello,

my 2c concerning the (cool!) new map-screen content panel:

– Map themes: The solution with the "Map themes" line appearing and hiding under the "Base map" line is good – it targets both users who like to change their map theme content via this panel and ones who don't because they do it via button panel or because they rather use LoMaps online, etc.

– Tracks & points: The solution in app version 4.17.2.2 is the best so far – the brush symbol (in contrast to the eye symbol) is intuitive.
Temporary hiding by using a long-click including the red icons appearing in the top bar is a useful feature.
Suggestions:
1.
Similar to freischneiders idea, I also would suggest using the "30/16500" numbers as feedback after the long click, but what about graying the "30" out? Greyed out icons or words are normally understood as "inactive". That would indicate that the 30 tracks are inactive at the moment but still loaded. A second long click would display the "30" in black again
2.
In German, "Auswahl aufheben" is a better translation to "Deselect all" (instead of "Markierung aufheben"). It also fits better into the pop-up ;)
Edit: CabrioTourer reported this already :)

– General:
It would make sense to make also the "Map shading" line hidable, because I think most users make this setting once and then don't change it very often. As for me, map shading is always activated, I don't change it ever.

All in all – great improvement, thank you!

Best,
Lucas

Quote from: Menion on June 21, 2023, 21:37:49The secondary function, by the long click, is the temporary hide of all points/tracks.
@Menion the new long tap doesn't provide any visual feedback. You don't know whether anything has changed or the long tap has done anything until you return to the map. Could the long tap also return directly to the map?
I have another idea for feedback if something has changed with the Lang click.
It shows 30 / 16500. 30 tracks are shown out of 16500. Once the tracks are hidden the number 30 could turn red. So I see immediately so that what has changed and I also see in the side panel so that they are hidden.
The same could be done in the library. Normally there are only faded in at 0 a red 0 shown. here you could then also show 5 / 45. and the 5 then red for hidden.

Long click on brush icon is a good solution. But it would be nice if it then returns to the map right away. Andrew has already written it.
After hiding by long click, the Tracks icon appears in the upper right corner, crossed out in red. But here the whole line is displayed. It would be enough if only the symbol is displayed. My setting is: hide top row automatically. Without the symbol it works but with the symbol it does not work.
