I don´t need LoMaps, LoPoints or anything of that. 40$ per Year is much to expensive.
I disagree, but I do have to say that one drawback compared to Google Play is that prices cannot beadjusted for country/purchasing power. Well, unless I got something wrong here. But I do see that when I, from Switzerland, say that 24€ are fine (btw, that's 40$AU, but only ca. 30$US), people from less wealthy countries might disagree.

Don't wanna pressure, just for information: Do you have an estimate when sync can be tested again by everyone? Thx!
@slarti76 - funny isn't it - how very quickly we get used to have the new sync available. It saves me a *lot* of time - I use it instead of backup manager > full backup > FTP file to PC > FTP PC file to 2nd device > backup manager > restore.
Well, I'm using FolderSync with my NAS as storage most of the time, and Google Drive when I'm on the road. And regular local backups on the phone.
So I'm fine, I was mainly asking to do some more beta testing - I did report a few minor bugs lately, and had a bigger data loss (well, got everything back with local backups) a few weeks ago which I didn't report, because nobody would be able to reproduce it anyway. So I hoped to get some more quality testing in before LM4 is out.

But I also agree with the family aspect our Aussi friend has laid out. This should get fixed.
Just my 2c.
One solution could be to add his Google account on the phones of his family and chose that account for Locus. Not sure if there's any restrictions, and of course this has the added danger of the kids buying apps with father's account (well, a password should help against that), but I think that's legal and acceptable, isn't it?

are you sure that it always download again first 10k tiles? Because the app does not remember when downloading started. Every tile! has its own timestamp when it was downloaded, so this really should not happen. It is possible that download starts from 0%, but it should skip already downloaded tiles really quickly.
Well, it was around 35K tiles, and Google allows 10K/day. Highest level was 14, and after the first day it never got even to 50% of L14. I broke it off after 6 or 7 days. So there is definitely something wrong. I know about the skipping, but that didn't happen here.
My explanation was just an idea, but what you write still fits: Each tile has a timestamp, and the settings for the download say "replace all tiles older than 0 days". So if you download a tile today and then restart the download tomorror, it will look at the timestamp and reload the tile (at least if the current time is also later, depending on that some tiles may be skipped which would explain some differences in how far the download gets). Obviously, you remember which level we were in last, so the lower levels don't get started again.
Should be easy to reproduce ;)

I agree with Frivold and fraben: Finally I'm able to regularly contribute to the development of my favorite app! :) The business case behind "pay once, use forever" was always fishy, this is not sustainable, and people I think have been getting too used to this. But things are changing, and I really hope your calculations and assumptions pan out!
I'm a software engineer myself, but employed by a big company and only dabbled with mobile apps so far. I am quite intimidated at the thought of having my income depend on this. So very very good luck with this - I'll be getting my Gold as soon as I can 8)

Little problem with the Map Downloader:
I wanted to update an old map (Google Maps). The highest level had more than the 10'000 tiles allowed by Google every day. Now Locus handles this perfectly with the ability to continue the download the next day. However, as I was updating an old map and had the setting "Overwrite all older than 0 days" active, this download never ended, as the next day, even the new tiles from yesterday were outdated and got reloaded.
Locus has to somehow remember the day the initial download was started...

When I zoom in the map with two fingers, it usually sets an unwanted point.
I recently started to experience this, too. Not always, but sometimes.

"As I remember, Menion wanted to not overstuff the preset system."

Wrong thinking 😁 IMO the preset system should be overstuffed. We use it to batch apply settings. To avoid to visit specific settings. I love to use presets and I totally dislike having to set map or theme manually...
I'm all with you here :)

Menion, is there a reason why Maps aren't part of the preset system? Would be useful IMO.
For best possible area overview I wanted to create a preset with the wonderful Asamm hike+bike map. But otherwise I use osm based vector maps + themes.
I second that. As I remember, Menion wanted to not overstuff the preset system. I also think that being able to chose a Map theme, but not a Map, is inconsistent. I assume the reason here is that themes can be used anywhere, but map may not be available for the current position. But so what, then the user has to pan, no big deal...
I would like to add Map Overlays, too. This is even more of a case for presets: While maps are just a single selection, overlays have several parameters (which one, alpha, blend mode), which is a pain to select each time. Would be great to have presets for your favorite overlays with the perfect settings.

New Beta version with another nice amount of fixes & fine-tunning. So please give a try new V14 version.
Changelog says "option to set photo as icon in the new point screen (long click)".
Can somebody explain? I don't get it, can't find any new option here - what am I not seeing?

The problems with the track editor after several deletes (point or inner parts) seems to have gone, thx! Will observe if the crashes of the sync function after longer background time have gone, too (still waiting for sync to be available again for everyone, though).

Well, since you asked...  :-)     Imagine Mapsource, but web-based.  All your data (waypoints, tracks, saved routes, etc) in one spot, in an application where you can keep them organized (folders, groups, tags, whatever) on a 'big screen', and see them on a map, etc.  The data and changes made in the web-based application then sync to your device(s).
--SNIP--
@gcfishguy, you're basically explaining what the new Locus Web Interface does. You seem to have found the page (which is in Beta, mind you), and then you list all the features that are already there or are planned (see the other thread).

So people wonder: What do you want (more)?
Or are you just unhappy that the first version doesn't fulfil all of your dreams?

I do not perfectly get the point, sorry.

So when you update track preview (by long click on the preview in the list of tracks) does it trigger the sync task? It should not. And the result is > yes, you won't have identical previews on multiple devices without any other modification of the track itself. Not a big problem for now I believe.
OK, sorry, I realize my description wasn't that good...
Of course, a preview update doesn't trigger a sync, but it marks the track as "updated", which means the track is synced next time a sync is performed. But the overview image is not synced anyway. So the sync is useless, as nothing new is transferred to server.*
Additionally, on the other device the download of the "new" (unchanged) track leads to the preview being removed. This leads to a vicious cycle where I can't have track images on  both devices, because everytime I recreate the image on one device, this leads to the next sync removing the image on the other. You're right, I don't care if the images are not identical, but like this it's a) unnecessary syncs, and b) no previews at all on one of the devices.

* I remember distinctly that we discussed this before and you even agreed not to mark a track as updated if only the preview is changed, but for the life of me I can't find the posts in any thread. Perhaps I dreamed it ;)

Hi Menion, is the explicit thread for sync problems still a place to post? Because since I posted https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7114.msg62332#msg62332 there, you already answered a lot of posts here...
Anyway, in short, syncing of tracks is still triggered by simply updating/recreating the track overview in the track list. You wrote that you fixed that a while ago. Can't test now, obviously, but happened with the beta before sync became unusable for us (beta11 I think it was).
EDIT: Answer from Menion in linked thread, thx.

Also talking about sync: When I return to Locus after some inactive time, but Locus wasn't yet killed by Android (main screen appears instantly), opening the sync dialog reproducibly crashes Locus. Directly after a restart, sync opens fine.

visible track > sync > track updated and no longer visible ... good observation, this probably happens. Little more complex to solve, but added to my to-do list, thanks!

The problem with the not visible track during recording should be fixed in the next version. App now uses more aggressive optimization for drawing content on the screen and the track was incorrectly detected as "not visible".

Thanks for the video, appreciate it!
- selection improved: the app will first try to find the nearest active point (green dot). If none is found, the nearest middle point (red dot) will be used. In the current version, sorting by distance from click was not correct.
- invisible handling points > hmm another side-effect of new optimization. Thanks, fixed!
Was away on holiday, some more observations:
First of all, selection of points in Track Editor>Insert/Edit is now much better! Also didn't experience the problem with missing handling points anymore. Thx!
But another problem (sorry if it was already reported, didn't read through all posts while I was away): Deleting single points or track sections ("inner parts") always after a few deletes (1 to 5 usually) leads to a situation where the track itself is not displayed anymore. When that happens, editor is unusable, have to leave editor and select Modify Track again.
Could make a video, again - but it really happens all the time. Cleaning up a track like this is too annoying. Happens with latest beta (11, I think).

I still sometimes experienced cases where a track wasn't visible suddenly and I had to zoom in/out. But that was on the road, so don't remember the exact situation. Will report in detail if it happens again. But at least you should know it's still not working perfectly, so perhaps you can have a look into it anyway...

And a tiny request: Could you make the track comment in the Track Info screen copyable? I often want to copy a comment to another track and have to go into edit track info to select the comment.
Same for the track title itself. Shouldn't be a biggy to make those texts selectable, is it?
