Hello Christian

I saw all the maps. And I mean I saw ALL the maps in the internet.
What we need for Mountainbiking is MTB_scales with hillshading.
I do not know why no online site uses this theme.
You can only see the height after you marking a point and the track is calculated. I need it to see before I'm setting a point on the track.
"Do you need instructions during mountainbiking? Really? With a blonde voice?"
Why not? Do you need instructions in the car?
If it would work properly, the flow is only interrupted when needed, the battery life is longer and the device is not beeping and talking so much.
Why do you think the forum is sleeping? I don't know, what you mean.

Thanks

Hello Christian

Thanks for the hint to BRouter-Web:
Limitations of BRouter-Web:
- No Mapstyle with MTB rated paths. E.g. http://www.openandromaps.org/kartenlegende/andromaps_mtb
- No OSM with hillschading and on the fly height data at the cursor. I would like to see during routing if a path is going up or down.
- No direction instructions.
- No possibility to have one or more reference gpx files displayed during planning

Config.cfg hack doesn't change anything with MapQuest Routing. Locus/Mapquest still generates "you have arrives at your destination"-points.
So its not what I'm looking for.

And it is very frustrating. I remember the time around 10(?) years ago, when we start to use our pocket pc with a navigation program for street navigation (e.g. Navigon for Pocket PC).
- The maps all ended at the border of a country
- The ETA was way off and we tweaked the config files with speed profiles to get it to work.
- There was nothing about traffic information.
- You cannot plan a route with via points.
- And the programm crashes with routes over 500km or so.
- No chance to get the next gas station on your route.

And if I would write somewhere that it should be different and that there is a way to make it better, everybody would tell, that everything is great because you reach your destination.
Its the same right now with "offroad" navigation. Nothing is working like it should and nobody is really working on it because maybe the market for it doesn't exist. Really?
10 years ago everybody says "I don't need navigation, I have my paper map".
In 10 years we all laugh about the offroad navigation from today, but I'm not willing to wait so long.

Bye

PS.: Thanks shushuk, I'm not alone. Don't you use instructions because you think, you don't need them or because it does not work properly right now?

Hello Forum

My goal is to create Mountainbike Tours with navigation instructions generated from real map data.
In principle Locus with MapQuest do a good job. You have everything you need. Great Maps (Openandromaps with MTB theme, Mapquest route service), so lets start.
You follow some paths in the forrest by adding point after point. Between the points MapQuest is routing according the paths and creates instructions on the crossings.
Problem 1: The map data is not perfect, so you do not get an instruction whereever you need it.
Problem 2: On each point you set, Locus places a "Zwischenziel"/"in between/going over point" and/or a "you have arrived at your destination" point.
So after routing your tour you have to rework it.
Problem 1 is solved with the opportunity in Locus to add navigational point manually, perfect.
For problem 2 looks like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4eczvsbedE
You have to delete the not needed points with a lot of clicks due to missing option of a route point list, where you could delete all these points at once and you always have to leave the "edit on map"-mode to delete points and you have to go back afterwards everytime.

Therefore I started threads at the helpdesk:
http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/automatic-deleting-or-avoidance-of-creating-intermediate-goalszwischenziele-during-route-plannin
http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/quick-delete-navigational-point-option-in-right-arrow-menu
But nobody is interested.

How are you planning routes?
There is no online route service or program, which can do what Locus is doing (good map with hillshading and MTB rated trails, height infomation within the map and map data based instructions).
No GPSies, No ridewithgps, no outdooractive, no komoot, no basecamp, no ....... is doing that.

How do you create MTB-tours?

Thanks

Hello

Over the summer I testet all the new features in creating a lot of MTB tours.
Routing with MapQuest plus adding and deleting manual navigation points is really great.
Also "strict routing" plus the ability of Locus, that tracks can overlap without confusion in navigation is great.
Together with customizable instruction definition and automatic display on/off, I think Locus reached 98% in navigation, when the track is prepared accordingly.
Thanks for all the effort to bring it up to this level and special thanks to Menion.

And Locus with Mapquest and Openandromaps is still the best routing planning tool.
But I would have some wishes to bring it also to 98% ;-).
Its all about editing navigation instructions:
1. Fast deleting of points: Right now you need 4 clicks to delete a point. I would like to see "delete point" in right arrow context menu without additional question => two clicks
2. No "intermediate goals"/Zwischenziel or "You have reached at your destination": Right now on a tour of 50km I have 20-30 intermediate goals and "You have reached..."-points. Sometimes both on one place. I have to delete them all manually.
Fast deleting (see 1) and the opportunity to delete all that points at once or to avoid the creation of them, would be nice.
3. Multi selection of navigational instructions: To delete all unnecessary instructions a checkbox (behind "delete point") in right arrow menu would be nice where you can mark all points you want to delete and if you click "delete point" at the last one, every selected point is gone. That would be nice.

Thanks

Hello

I am using a special character in the password.
It's the #.
Gpsies Android app login works.
Also on web side.

Troubles & Questions / GPSies Login doesn't work
October 18, 2015, 07:58:23
Hello

My Login for GPSies doesn't work from within Locus.
CapsLock, x-times tried; I get always "ungültiger Name oder Passwort".
Login data verified on GPSies Homepage.
Any idea?

Thanks

Hello Menion

Thanks for reply.
So in navigation mode its just the announcements defined in the config file and the display timeout of Locus, thats it, ok.

Currently I set it to 20|70 and a timeout of 10sec.

Besides that 20|70 is currently not the time Locus uses, it works well.
Around 20sec before the display turns on and you get a beep, so you can see, what to do next.
Around 5sec before the second announcement and with 10sec timeout the display is still on, when you do the turn.
Nice. Leave it like it is. Simple to use and customizable.

Thanks

PS.: Test it by yourself on your bike holidays. Have a nice trip. Where will you go to?

Hallo

Hello All

I read this thread, but I do not know what's the strategy of automatic display activation in navigation mode is right now.

My understanding:
1. We have a setting in config file: navigation_announcements_times=x|x|x
This is the time before a navigation instruction at which the display is also activated, if this is activated in settings display activation.
2. Then we have a timeout (e.g. 20sec) after which the display is turned off automatically.

So if I set the times for announcements 20|40|60, the display is theoretically turned on 60sec and is off at the turn, right?

But..

3. There is the setting "Set next trackpoint" under settings of guiding that has influence on screen on in navigation mode?

When I set this to 10m, will the screen be activated 10m before the turn in every case? For how long (timeout from above 20sec?). Will the screen turned off 10m after the turn?

Please help me to understand.

Thanks

Hello

Thanks for help.
The BRT TCX File works perfect.

So I assume, that the "cue-sheet" of Locus is not working properly.
Hopefully Menion can fix this.

Hello Menion

No, no, no.
It is not the same point!!!!!!!!!!!!! or should not be the same point. Its the same location/place, but not the same point!

Step by step, with pictures:

I start to create a route in Locus with MapQuest and on the way into the forrest I come to this crossing and MapQuest does not create an instructions because for MapQuest its maybe the same way but I want to have a "straight on" there.

The good thing is, we can add instructions manually in Locus, yeah, after finishing the route.

Than I come to the same crossing from another direction on the way back and MapQuest creates an instruction to go left.

So at the end we have point 25 on the way into the forrest where Mapquest did not create anything

and we have point 55 on the way back where MapQuest creates an instruction "left".

So after finishing the route I go to point 25!!!!!!! and add an instruction manually "straight on" (in old version, not anymore).

And than the problem is that I get the "left" instruction on the way into the forrest, where I place the "straight on" command and I get the "Straight on" instruction when I come back and need the "left" command.

So its two different points (different numbers), but Locus does not match it right somehow.

So not creating a "second" instruction is not a solution!

Thanks

Hello

Please no discussions about GPX export and file format stuff. That only confuses the whole thing. Keep it simple for now.

@Menion:
Just create a track with mapquest in locus and add some instructions manually where mapquest already places an instruction.

That's it for now.

Hello all

Yes, maybe Gpx export messes things up.
But that's not relevant for the problem.
It also happens with a track created within locus and edited in locus and never exported.

Hello Menion

Yes, I can.
You added both instructions manually.
The problem only occurs, when you add an instruction on a place where an instruction created from e.g. Mapquest already exists!

Thread history:

""Same" position means that Mapquest added the instruction at point number 53 and I jumped with the arrows (edit on map) to point 24 and convert this to a navigation waypoint,"

"Created with MapQuest instructions plus manually added ones in Locus."

"Ergo: With only manually added waypoint it seems to work but not with mixture of created and manually added ones."

Thanks

Hello Menion

The problem is not solved yet, like expected  ;)
http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4533.msg36620#msg36620

You wrote here
http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=4601.msg37145#msg37145
that "it worked" for you.
What is working for you?
What do you think causes the trouble?

The problem was, that MapQuest created an instruction on one way and I add an instruction manually on the way back on the "same" position. Afterwards, during navigation, Locus notifies the wrong instruction at the wrong time (way there, way back mixed up). "Same" position means that Mapquest added the instruction at point number 53 and I jumped with the arrows (edit on map) to point 24 and convert this to a navigation waypoint, Point 53 and 24 are at the same place (sample file find attached, newly created with current version)

Thanks
