Add-ons & Co-apps / Re: Addon - Geocaching
May 02, 2011, 17:03:49
Tested and is promising.
For now only provides showing of 50 near geocaches. Would be great if it saves account info to get only unfound geocaches... and 50 at a time (next 50,etc)
Would be awesome if it retrieves geocache descriptions, hint and logs.
I'm very happy to see this first step in online geocaching with Locus.

Will there be  free/PRO versions also?

Quote from: "menion"Still not but I was thinking about it. How should this solve during import. When I'll test identical points by name and coordinates, coordinate can change also. I'm still not sure how to do this. I also cannot test this by GC code because this code is stored deeper in database and this will be very slow to test it. So what you think?

In which database? If Locus then  why can't you concatenate the GC code with the name. In Locus the POI would be named 'GCxxxxx - Name'. Would that make the tests quicker?

Quote from: "menion"Test and show points as identical when have same name and distance is up to 1km for example? Or give there any possibility as "Add to database anyway"? But then you'll have to choose manually which rewrite and which add ... what you think?

Final coordinates of any Geocache (the place where the physical container is) can't move much (at most 200 meters), but multi caches or unknown caches can move up to 3km. I don't think there are geocaches with the same name in a 5 km radius, but I will confirm that later.
I think it's a good idea to allow duplicates if they are over 5km, and don't allow if they are nearer than that.

Let me move this issue up on the list:

Are there any news regarding the possibility of having two geocaches with the same name in same category?
There are a lot of situations here in Portugal with that.

Track recording info on title screen is giving only 0.
Is there any way I can see Track info after stop recording?

I wasn't using any desktop software. I was only importing directly downloaded from pocket query. I'll try to use GSAK to split into districts and then import the files into Locus. If Locus do this automatically would be wonderful.

About overwriting... there are a lot of different geocaches with same name, so I would want both.
Troubles & Questions / Geocaching issues

maybe this should go to the wish list, but I think is something that still makes me don't use Locus for offline Geocaching always:

I made a stress test importing 9300 points (I was really amazed with the speed: took less than one hour) to one category and all operations that involve activity on those points are terrible slow. (showing on map, showing on list, inverting selection, ordering, etc). My suggestion to improve is to automatically  create categories with th country/state fields. When I need to show those points on map I should select only the category I want. I know this is too Geocaching dependant....but it's one of the main utilities for me.

Besides the problem with points with same name remains: How does the system handles overwrite? When it ask if I want to overwrite  and I say yes, I lose the old and when I say no, it doesn't import the new. Is that correct? I can't have both in system?

The filtering option in Geocaching points is not working. Now it's presenting a list of numbers.
Quote from: "menion"Ok so fixed version is here.

And one question. Yesterday I with berkley share some data thanks to shared folder in dropbox. I have idea to share one folder with testing versions. Here, the people that have some issue or want to help, can place any data needed for debug. What you think. Of cource people that don't have dropbox account, can create one with this link which give me 250MB bonus :). So what you think? will this be easier for you to test new versions or send me some data to test?

I like the idea ;)
About importing gpx files directly from Geocaching... I'm surprised on how quick it is in this version. Few minutes to import each 1000 cache file.
My question is: How does the system handle Caches with same name? The option to overwrite is not clear: If I overwrite I'm losing the old. If I don't overwrite I'm losing the new? It seems is should keep both.

I still have a problem with duplicates. there are many caches with same name. The matching should be done at GC code, and not at cache name.

I'm testing the app with all Portuguese Geocaches (a little more than 10'000), and for now I can say it works good.
Troubles & Questions / Import same file twice
February 03, 2011, 17:48:14
I have a pocket query that runs every week in geocaching, and is updated with the last geocaches.

I imported to locus last week, and imported the updated this week.
Locus created a duplicate geocache instead of updating the new ones. Shouldn't the old ones be deleted?

One suggestion
The point list should refresh every x sec to show the nearest ones without user interaction.
One of my pocket queries has around 700 caches. I've found about 300 in them. Your first solution will make me deselect one by one the 300 caches? And I'll have to do that all the time I refresh the points?
The idea of filtering the pocket query in geocaching website is good, but sometimes I share the PQ's with friends and that's not admissible.

Until now I use GeoBeagle to hunt caches offline. There are 2 functionalities that I like: The way it recognizes the already found caches and the list of nearby caches when I'm travelling. It sorts the list by distance constantly so I always know the nearest one. Is that already supported, or will be in the near future, in Locus? I would prefer to use only Locus for all...
Is it possible not to show the already found caches?
When I import, all caches are in same category and I can't filter quickly which ones I still can make.
