no problem :) best is on email! Thanks ...

Released / Re: [APP] - version 0.9.3.X
« on: January 19, 2011, 16:07:04 »
unfortunately maps bigger then 2GB are loaded without any warning, but they not work correctly. Seems that all tiles that are in file places over 2GB limit are ignored and internal database handler throws exceptions! Because of this, I disabled support for this big maps!

Big maps will be disabled until I find any method how to manage this issue ...

Solved / Re: Question about cached maps
« on: January 19, 2011, 16:03:30 »
Sorry, I thought that there is no limit for cached maps but seems that android has generally problem with SQL files bigger then 2GB so I'm still not sure how to do it, but you actually have to check manually if your cached maps aren't too big. I'll have to do some protection but still not sure how ...

Unfortunately no solution for using maps bigger then 2GB is available. (currently)

Troubles & Questions / Re: One single target for a command
« on: January 19, 2011, 15:53:49 »
actually removed. On all actions (Locations, You See, Inventory) was behavior that when only one item is available, WhereYouGo jumped directly on item page. Will be in next release (0.4.13)

so fixed version is here for testing with many improvements also ... as usual ;)

about MyMaps ... thanks for your report. Please try it now ... you can now select type of map (public, unlisted), also all map should be clickable without problems.

map you don't see! Interesting is that I added this map into My Maps, and google maps do not see it too. Also when I receive data from My maps, this map isn't there. Anyway .. how did you created this complex map with folders?? Seems that this map will be problem and I have no idea how to receive this data ...

And please, beware direct contact with me. After I read newest comment on market, I know new information about myself!

"Use authentication credentials of an account? Are you smoking crack? I don't care what reasons you give, could easily be BS. Screw this app."

enjoy new version ;)

I think that new version should be posted on market soon. So if you found any errors, let me know. Otherwise I'll probably tomorrow send this child into world ...

Wishlist / Re: Customised whereyougo
« on: January 19, 2011, 06:45:12 »
very interesting offer, but as I wrote few times before, WhereYouGo is created with OpenWIG library. It's the core of this application. I created just the GUI, maps and stuff around but handling with gwc files isn't in my power. Problem is that I don't know LUA language and that is also reason why my response here on forum on WhereYouGo problems, are much satisfactory!

anyway, OpenWIG still contain few bugs which aren't fixed yet. Please try to contact author of OpenWIG if he will have time and taste to work on this. If he will agree, I should also. Only problem should be for me a time. Currently I'm fully working on SmartMaps voice navigation and Locus so WhereYouGo facelifting will come later (march I expect). Until that I'll not have any time ...

Solved / Re: Question about lock ICON
« on: January 19, 2011, 06:05:11 »
When you enable lock on map, you can then zoom only in one zoom layer (the one on which you pressed lock button). Map will then be rescaled with every zoom in/ zoom out press. Just press lock and try to zoom in/ zoom out and you'll see what it do :)

Solved / Re: Question about cached maps
« on: January 19, 2011, 06:03:41 »
You understand well,
when you browse online maps, tiles are stored into same database as when you download maps with SQL shared mode! So when you turn your data connection off, all already viewed maps will be available in offline mode ...

cache is on your SDCard in Locus/mapsOnline directory. There is not currently any limitation, so cache will grow until fully fill your card :). Unfortunately, format I'm using do not hold any information about date when tile was added to cache, so I'm not sure how to choose which tiles purge when cache (SD card) is full ...

when you select separate map, you then on map select screen, click on top "Custum map" tab, and choose your "Separate map". This map will be fully offline and no additional tiles will be added in to it.

I'm glad you like it

first: this allow access to My Maps (, not My Tracks. If you have force close, may you please send me logs from Locus/logs directory! Thanks

Implemented / Re: Please add features...

Sorry, I forgot to write about TAR format. In which format do you have your maps?

Anyway, tar is even worst. There is limit around 1GB. More, will result in OutOfMemory error on you device so don't try this. We have to find another solution for bigger maps if we need them. Tar is unusable, Sql is limited by Android device, so it seems that possibility is to use few Sql files as one map or any own format which I don't want. When you use SQL map, 1 file per map zoom, then limit 2GB on best zoom is much better then 2GB on whole map ...

We'll see ... it needs some testing with SQL and also testing on Android 2.3 if there is not any change ...

Troubles & Questions / Re: Garmin Map conversion
« on: January 18, 2011, 20:10:26 »
interesting. If you want support for import plt and trk files, may you send me any examples on mail? I'll look on them closer!

about direct support of img files .. that should be problem. I was searching a little on google but I cannot find any method how to convert them into any usable format. Are they really so good that no one from now almost 40 maps (or more now in beta) in locus is not good enough? :)

Implemented / Re: Please add features...
« on: January 18, 2011, 20:07:19 »
understand you send wish, but seems to be a very specific to your snow actions :). So as I said, maybe sometimes but cannot promise.

about 2GB map limit. I have created this method to add big maps viewtopic.php?f=21&t=139, but as you can read in next post, it still have some problems on Android device. Currently I'm a little without hope, but I'll take some time to create any method how to use big maps. Even if not, I think that 2GB big maps are really enough. In worst case, you'll have to separate them into more files ...

Released / Re: [APP] - version 0.9.3.X
« on: January 18, 2011, 14:27:11 »
Quote from: "berkley"

you just released another 2 versions... Please come down to earth. I have to work :P
I understand your worries about the app getting too complex for basic users. That's just one reason, why I don't use Orux.

I think that you are on a point of developping where you don't know which way to develop. It's your app and it's great. I never had problems with it using the Galaxy S and I already posted in the market some days ago. Just did an update with the devices name.
To come back to the app and your development. Everybody uses apps for different kind of use. For example my to do list is a shopping list app. Locus has the potential to serve people for different kind of convenience. Your just a few steps away from road navigation. Your just a few steps away from a route tracker/server for sparetime activities. And so on. That's what I meant with "Monster".

As being a farmer I'm gonna use Locus as a kind of guidance system. Have a look here, just to have a clue what I mean: http://
There's just a few things missing (exept the guidance).
- display the recorded track width in meters, according to the machine I work with.
- display the track, that you already have recorded in the same session, in another colour. Like don't work at the same place twice.
- having a kind of online database (google docs?) to organize what work you are currently are doing and what you still have to.
- loading "MyMaps" from Google server and being able to edit the informations in there with just clicking on the fields as I don't have tracks in MyMaps, just Polygons.

But as I already said. It's your app. And only you decide in which way you develop it. ;)
At the moment I'm very happy with the development, so I'm gladly testing your beta versions and giving you feedback.

Just a word about accuracy. As you read above I have to have a very good accuracy. The accuracy shown in Locus is 1 meter. Other apps are showing 2,2 meters (same conditions). So... I think it's still not too bad.

If you want me to translate some text into German, I'm gonna to this. I also have basic knowledge of French. So I'll try this too. Just give me the english textfiles, I can't handle Czech!!!

Bye for now, I'm having a look at

Edit again, bad short time memory :P
I think you better choose another app name. At least for Germany. Because the word "Locus" describes the place where you are doing your big business. So probably you just get some 1 star ratings in the market because someone is just looking for an app showing public toilets! ;)

:) sympathic post, thanks!

I have to work also, don't worry. Today, probably no new version will be released!

You're not right with your idea that I'm at point where I have no exact idea of develop. I have. Current state is almost final for first part. I want also do ability to compute directions and then I'll just fix bugs and do some small improvements. For example support for track width in metres ;), support for more coordinate systems, some other features but nothing more. I think that application will then need some time to fix all main problems, improve GUI to be more user friendly, also write some manuals (which I really hate) and more ...

and then? :) ... At THIS point I'll be at place where I have no idea where to go. I'll use this software as a part of my postgraduate work so I think, way will go here at least for a while ...

but ... some of thinks you wrote, that you are missing, aren't so hard to do. I'll look on some of them closer later. You have to count that I want to hold Locus general as long as i can. I don't want to Locus became specialized on one thing like ... sport software or something like this. It will never be so good as any other specialized software.

And about ... ehm ... public toilets ... I really like this word ... ning/locus, so sorry but I'll not change this. Maybe I should prepare some POI database of public toilets for German users? ;)

Hi cythral,
glad you like it and also big thanks to your post!

so ...
About tracks. In beta version is already Select all and Invert buttons. About categories for tracks ... hmm, I don't like this idea much. I added "filter" into Points managing, so you can now filter some points by the icon! I think about something similar to tracks. You set to every track some type and then you can filter them by this type. Hmm seems to be almost the same :) Ok. I though about predefined categories like bike, foot, default, imported, and more (as users want) and then ability to filter by this ...

About names next to points on map .. I know I know ... you're not the first one who ask. I'll have to do something with this :) probably possibility to show whole names next to points on map ...

Bugs ... thank you! you're the first who wrote me something about My Maps. I was little worried if it wasn't waste of power on this. Hope not. Bugs you wrote were there. I fixed weird mistake with not selectable items in list. It was due to html links in Maps description. Links are now not clickable but selection works at least for me. About importing. Since market version I did many improvements to import this data and also KML files, so please try it with testing version. If you find any problem, share your map with me and I'll probably fix this! Anyway, did you try direct editing in Locus? I discovered that map edited in Locus do not show with exactly same color or icons on Google maps and I cannot find where is problem. Same map on Locus in another phone looks allright ... weird

How it's possible that GPS think, that you're in Prague? Someone wrote me similar issue as comment on market ... grr!

Fully offline mode, hmm is this really reqired? If you want full offline, it's easier to turn off data connection with some software! In Locus is few places where I need internet connection and more will come and I don't want to do on every palce some check if connection is allowed or not ... sry

And on editing I'll look ...

Various & Bin / Re: map orientation
« on: January 18, 2011, 09:53:20 »
madmax do you believe me that I still do not understand? :)

when you enable screen rotate by bottom button, when you rotate with display, screen rotate by hardware compass, so when you're moving and holding phone before you, screen rotate by your movement. If you want when screen rotate by bearing comes from GPS, then on GPS screen disable bottom 'Compass' button and then orientation will be taken from GPS and not from hardware compass ...

is this helpful for you? If not, please try to explain your wish for me once again ...
