Troubles & Questions / Re: using offline maps
« on: January 28, 2011, 10:10:29 »
Hi,
hmm weird. If you had enough space on card, there is no possibility to not store online maps. Only some errors on background ... maybe? ... hmm .. are you sure that you looked on same zoom level? You should try this easy. Just delete all mapsOnline directory which clear whole online map cache. Then run app and watch any area. Then disable internet connection in system or enable offline mode in Locus and try to see same area. I believe that all tiles will be cached correctly!

There is no limitation on any map provider. All should work! So ... if you find any problem that I can simulate on my phone (exact place, zoom and provider) that not work, let me know!

Hi Fuhur,
thanks for inspiring post. Locus was primary created to handle maps. Nothing more. After a time, I took some code from my old project LocA (thanks to scinkk kick) and added support for geocaching. But you have to remember that Locus will never be specialized on geocaching as any other applications can be!

  but to you hints...

1.   Can’t log caches to file with my field notes. It’s important, because when you are going on a longer hunts, you can’t remember all details. In this case you have to write in a notebook. If there is a feature like this, I can’t find it. I try seriously. You may see in all other geocaching applications what I’m talking about.
Ok, I did this today morning. Action is available from geocaching screen. Problem for me is that I have no idea how to show user that this cache is already logged. I cannot add any small symbol to icon so I have two possibilites. Change completely icon of cache into any symbol with notepad or similar. Or write any text onto screen with cache details. maybe below cache name something like "Field notes created".

2.   It’s very difficult to “click” on cache icon. Sometime it opens cache dialog on my first try, sometime I “click” 20 times with a finger on a same way – no response. I think that there are some problems with this – check it.
You're first who wrote me about this problem. There is really big circle around place you click where I search for points. Try it please for a while. I'm sure, this works ok!

3.   (not so important feature) It will be good if you may search caches either by GC code or by part of the name. Reasons – sometime you’re going for exact cache, and all around are bonus, but it’s the main target. Then it’s good to have possibility to search for it in a list.
I have searching function on points in database in my personal TODO list ...

4.   (not so important feature) It'll be convenient if on a map screen when you tap the cache icon and open menu to see at the bottom distance of the cache from current position. This gives you possibility to decide on a way do you have time to go and for nearby cache or it’s too far from the main direction. It’s especially helpful if you are on bike – now you have to stop to switch 2 screens to take this decision. But without it – also will be great.
and what about to click in menu on "Guide on"? This will show information you need directly on map. Enough?

5.   (very unimportant) It will be good to see distance from the cache not only when they are sorted on distance from current position.
I have to think about it. Actual state, helps me as a user to quickly check what sort is enabled. If I see no distances, sort by name is active.

I also added complete manager of cache waypoint (adding, editing, deleting) on cache page and ability to edit cache coordinates (for example when you compute mystery and want to set correct values), so try it and let me know if any problems occur!

So, all new features (mainly field notes and point editing) will be in beta version (0.9.7.3 I think) that should be here today ...

thanks fuhur and nice geo-hunt

Information / Re: [MANUAL] - importing Geocaching Pocket Query files
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:47:04 »
Hi,
it's not necessary to select all manually. Just show screen with points, select second button from right (filter) and choose icon with smile (founded). Then click second icon from left and select all founded points. Then click on filter again and disable filter by first item. All points now show but only founded are selected. When you press third button from left (invert selection) you'll now see on map only not founded caches.

I have discussed yesterday this filter with scinkk personally and I'll change it a little, but this should work with current version.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Force Close when trying marker icon
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:42:58 »
So, as we spoke over jabber. There is any issue in My Maps library I use that throw error on 2.1 devices on some maps. Now it show dialog with some server response information and map will remain unselected. I'm sorry but as seems that My Maps will not be supported, there is a little chance that this will be fixed!

Troubles & Questions / Re: using offline maps
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:59:53 »
it depend what you want.

shared mode is good when you still use internet and just want to have maps on any place fast and without problem. So you "pre-cache" maps with shared mode and you should be sure, you'll have maps at this place but also be sure that when you go in area where you don't have cached tiles, you'll download them from internet ...

if you plan to have any area for a trip, then you should use separate map which is completely offline, and after use you should delete it or store on desktop computer for later use. It just depend on you ...

I'm not sure if my explanation is understandable, but I hope it bring you at least something ... :)

enjoy app

Troubles & Questions / Re: using offline maps
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:06:47 »
Hi Jusc,
so, offline mode allow you to use your online maps only from cache. So you can see map tiles that you already saw or tiles that you downloaded with "SQL shared mode"!! Did you used this mode? If you use "SQL separate mode", you download map as separate file and you have then select this map is second tab "Custom maps".

So when you have enabled offline mode, there is no need for internet connection. I already tested this and seems that this work. Please play with it a little and I believe that it should work. Simple test is to watch some places in online mode, then switch to offline and restart application (to reload maps). You should see only your cached maps and on places where is no tile, you'll see only white area without any text.

Did this work for you? If not, I'll send you my testing version. I did some improvements on map loading, so maybe this is "fixed" now (if there is any problem) ...
