Hi guys,
maybe two, maybe even more years before, we started to feel a small financial push.
New people in the team (five now), increased pricing of used services (like GraphHopper, where we are currently already beyond their max. paid tariff, AppEngine, hosting servers and mailing and other servers).
On the second side, quite similar or just slowly growing income from one-time payments and little grow from income in Locus Store (which is quite low in the end because of small provisions we have from sales). Very increasing support on help desk from more than 600k active users from all 10 years when Locus Map is on Google Play (close to need for a special person who will take care just support), etc.

So maybe a year ago we decided we have to change this. And solution we decided for is well described by Michal in his new blog post.
Maybe not all is clear from this blog post, also not all is set and we have many open questions. I do not want to come one day with "ready solution", so rather we published this information a few months before it begins, to have some time to discuss it with users.

I saw already created German topic here on forum regards this topic, but I think it will be fair to discuss it directly with me. So feel free to ask, suggest, discuss etc. I'm open to any changes if they will be doable and make sense, as usual.

February 16, 2019, 13:05:25
One of the major problems with maps are caused by really really old system how the app works with map files, online maps, the system for rendering map tiles etc. I decided to update this system to try to solve most of the major problems.

Main info: to test changes is needed special ALPHA version. Currently not yet published, plan is on start of March. Subscribe to receive new information once ALPHA is ready for the test.

Current major visible changes

Implemented

  • support for custom HDPI online maps, more info

In progress/preparation

  • features related to MapsForge V4 maps, more info

Other features / MapsForge maps V4/V5
January 03, 2019, 15:10:49
Hi to all at the start of the new year 2019,

more and more (advanced) users complain about little weird support of the latest version of MapsForge maps (V4+) in Locus Map app. So let's move with it?

I would like to ask for help here. First I need to better understand current problems with the support of latest MapsForge lib in Locus Map. From this, I would like to create a list of tasks that need to be done and set priorities. Please be short, be clear (or point me to already existing clear and short post).

I'm sure, that most of info was already wrote somewhere here, but to be true, I'm still confused about this topic. Thanks for understanding and help.

List of current known problems

  • fixed 256x256 tilesize, should scale based on DPI, more info - solved
  • hardcoded usage of themes V3 maps = V3 themes, V4+ maps = V4 themes - solved
  • multiple themes per directory - solved
  • missing auto-loading - solved, seems to be little slow when more maps is loaded, but works
  • problem with hillshading system, more info
  • incorrect redraw of text labels after zoom, more info
  • support for MapsForge POI

Other features / Revision of Locus Map texts
October 05, 2017, 17:46:27
Copy of my global email to all people who helps with app translation:

Good evening dear friends,
hope you all have a great time. If Locus app still follows you in your life, even better.

Among other things I still change and modify ( some of you maybe noticed completely new Route planner and Track editor screen that will probably come out next week ), I've also decided that after all these years, texts in app should be polished, united, simplified, etc.

So, we are currently making few steps to accomplish this task. All who wants to continue in amazing translation work, please check our "Translation manual" page here http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:about:translation with few tips and tricks, how text should sound and look like.

We are also changing quite a lot of texts in app, but in slow step-by-step process, where every change is well tested and confirmed. So no worry, there won't be "translate all again" action, but it will all take maybe half a year ( expect ).
