@balloni55
This is really really weird. I spend on ti maybe two hours playing with various options, found minor issues but nothing like you and Diddi describe. How to simulate it, hmm? May you please try a short video with this issue?

@geoffmozz
hi, welcome!
Web planner lives in a separate topic, so feedback is welcome there!

The latest plan was final release at end of February. But we are changing and finalizing subscription plans five minutes before midnight so as usually > delay. Fortunately, it gives Ondrej (dev behind web planner) and me as well, some more days to fix critical bugs.

New version just upload: MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - V13_993_beta

Except for (again) very weird errors of @joeloc, all major reported problems should be solved. Thanks all (and specially @balloni55 for logs and @413Michele for the video)

@gcfishguy
Not sure what more you want than what offers the Beta version of web.locusmap.app. There won't be any other website for Locus Map with map etc  :). It has its own topic here, so feel free to ask there if you miss any functionality. Many features are planned for the next versions.

Such huge amount of bug reports and help with developing. I'm permanently amazed  ;). Thanks all!

@balloni55
thanks for the log. I had to change a little bigger part of the code so in case of something unexpected in the next version, please let me know. Hopefully fixed.

Waypoint visibility > ok, let's try the previous, just a little improved (not hiding list) version.

@tapio
oki, thanks. I hoped it is solved as this is quite a complicated problem :/. Will look at it during a week.

@joeloc
Track rec icon > hmm, it is really only a icon & app name. This does not look like working track recording notification (missing correct title & description). Stefan, it is currently quite impossible for me to fix it. I never saw something like this on my devices and you are only one who report something like this. It looks like system tries to restore recording system after any crash? Why notification is only partial = do not know. It probably does not have effect on the battery right (no service really runs)?

Caching of heat maps > don't ask me on the max value. It is another app weak point > cache is unlimited  ::). Hard to say what is wrong. Maybe cache itself is wrong > maps are stored in Locus/mapsOnline, so try to delete database file (cache) of this map.

Quick point/guide > if we talk about quick "Guide to", then "Guide to" option in the side panel does not create a new database point. It do what you want. It anyway has one additonal step > choosing a target (map center) > give it a try and you'll see. It is definitelly more reliable than long click.

@jonny.blue
hmm, I'm playing with it, but unfortunately no problem to catch and report to Arcao (dev of G4L). So probably best to solve it is to directly report this problem to Arcao on G4L web page https://geocaching4locus.eu.

@ADiet
generally blend modes (you have selected "Src Out") cause weird problems on some devices and I still have no idea how to solve this. With blend mode disabled, it works correctly? If so, then there is nothing I can do now.

@luce
re-opening point screen when tapping on the points on the map is currently terrible! I know and I've already tried to solve this > not yet successfully  :-\

Zoom buttons > hmm, quite a UI challenge :). Is this really so useful? Isn't enough to use pinch zoom (or tap, tap and swipe) when zoom is rarely needed? I'll have to be convinced by more people to do this because it may be quite complicated task.

@ADiet
problem with zoom with overlay > can't simulate it. What map is used as an overlay? Any special settings like blend mode for overlay or any shading or coloring?

@joeloc
long tap is complicated, agree. So why use it for adding new points or starting guidance? You may use the button placed in the side menu for these cases or "Quick new point" as an even faster method for the new point.

Crashes > I've spent the weekend implementing an automatic reporting system so, in next Beta 12, the app should (hopefully) automatically send crashes to me. Anyway, database size really should not have an effect here. The effect may have a number of tracks/points on the map. Suggest to keep the map clean, hide tracks on the second side of the world ...

Strava overlay > firstly please check if
- map (in the list) has enabled caching (visible in map detail as "Cache timeout" and may be set over "Set cache timeout" option)
- you have globally enabled caching for online maps in settings > Maps > Online > Cache maps.

Improve inclination texts > added to TODO

Syncing with buddy > it will help only partially. It allows easily generate Url to your track that may anyone with this URL download and use. Anyway, it still needs an internet connection. Sharing locally may be easily done over "Share as GPX" and some method to send data between devices.

@Diddi
PQ crash > still can't simulate. Crash log needed.

Laggy version > this may be even worst for fixing. Firstly please try to restart your device. Then I suggest some of our steps here, mainly check if there is not too much content on the map etc. I simply need some clue to find out a reason.

@john_percy
hmm, weird, but probably nothing I can fix. This is a completely system-based dialog. I've never had a problem with this. Anyone suffering but not confirmed screen on/off permission?

@Andrew Heard
weird problem with the map. It is not a generated PNG preview, but a regular map window with exactly the same map as you have on the main map screen. So if using some offline vector maps, it should work correctly.

@tapio
so now you have a problem with the bottom panel, that was not previously visible? Damn ...

@jonny.blue
ah, nice discovery. Does this happen with the live-map enabled?

@balloni55
So you think that tap on the waypoint should open a full-screen window with this waypoint, but does not display it directly on the map? Probably agree. Anyone else opinion on this?

@jonny.blue
hmm and any idea how this duplication may happen?

"App not responding" error when app closing > hmm this does not happen to me, weird. Any bigger function running when closing app?

@joeloc
Another side problem regards the bottom point panel found > thanks, the next version should be again little better.
And the problem with crashes ... well, manual bug report till app will be on Google Play still needed, sorry.

@Andrew Heard
I do not consider missing swipe-to-dismiss as a bug. This side panel is completely different compare to the old side menu so this feature does not work. But it makes sense, agree. Added to "Todo", thanks.

@philj
ah, thanks. I've simulated this issue on emulator > should be fixed now

@Raddino
as @balloni55 wrote, it worked like this. But before, tap on waypoint displayed full-screen window. Now it is different and the app displays a small bottom panel and moves the map to the waypoint. So only missing step was hiding the list of waypoints. Fixed, thanks.

@freischnerider
this big delay in the display of the edit screen happen also for a very short track? And the detail of the track (the big screen with the chart, stats, etc) appears a lot faster?

@flyingman_ch
Closing a cache when updating > this happens for caches stored in the internal app database? I do not use live-map from G4L so to be true, I did not test this feature. Will have to ...

@balloni55
- ah, nearest point panel > thanks, improved now

- "Geocaching logs" panel > in the new panel is only incorrectly moved "offline" header, fixed. Both are otherwise the same. First use old Point screen which will be removed one day. Not an ideal solution, but for now most easy to do ...

- TB offline > well, I also do not know :D. We've received a request for offline TB logging and I've noticed in the code that it should work but was never published.
In the current Pro version, you can't log trackable offline, right? In the current Beta version, in case you have loaded profile and some TB items are in your inventory, you should be able to mark them to "drop" or "visit". When you will later upload your logs over "Logs manager", app should upload trackable logs as well.
But as I wrote, I did not test it now, so if it does not make sense or simply does not work, just let me know and I'll try to find some more time ...

@Raddino
web planner has its own topic: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7232.0

@Andrew Heard
you definitely need a higher resolution :). I'll try to look at it

@tapio
- icons are small, I know. But the tapping area is big enough.
- thanks for the other three things, I've noted them and look at them. Opening hours definitely should not look like this :)

Thanks guys, you are of course correct.
The new version "989 - Beta 8" published.

Just a small warning: small issues with rendering that happen in the few latest versions are caused by quite a massive change in the inner rendering system. It may take few more iterations till all will work correctly. The result of this should anyway be a lot better performance for rendering map content, mainly in case, the content won't be directly visible on the device screen. Sorry for this and thanks for your patience and help with testing!

@slarti76
visible track > sync > track updated and no longer visible ... good observation, this probably happens. Little more complex to solve, but added to my to-do list, thanks!

The problem with the not visible track during recording should be fixed in the next version. App now uses more aggressive optimization for drawing content on the screen and the track was incorrectly detected as "not visible".

Thanks for the video, appreciate it!
- selection improved: the app will first try to find the nearest active point (green dot). If none is found, the nearest middle point (red dot) will be used. In the current version, sorting by distance from click was not correct.
- invisible handling points > hmm another side-effect of new optimization. Thanks, fixed!

@tapio
a) yes, that's what I tried to wrote > already implemented

A simple long-tap on the map screen does not display the bottom dialog?

@joeloc
I've never seen a recording button in the system bar when the recording was not active. It technically does not make sense. Any steps to reproduce it?

Permission to "Always use GPS even in the background" is complicated. What you see is best what the app can do. The app should not force users to enable "Use in background" settings, anyway, you should already see a warning dialog with "To navigate or record a track with the display off ..." text. Do you see it when starting recording and this option is disabled?

@Andrew Heard
long tap in point detail is not so simple like in Track editor, I was already looking at it. Anyway, I'll maybe improve it a little bit ...

@Andrew Heard
thanks for the tests!

- trackpoint timestamp: just scroll down, values should be at the bottom of the dialog

@john_percy
This is a correct observation. Online LoPoints are always included in the online search. We are trying to create a single united search across addresses/points in a single window. Online for now, offline later.

Option not-to-include LoPoints into search > I'll have to think about it ...

Thanks for the info about the crash > you are right, fixed!

Problem with restoring the state before preset was activated > unfortunately, I'm unable to simulate this issue. Does it happen always on your phone?

@flyingman_ch
good point, it was not intended. Re-added, thanks.

@tapio
I'll try to integrate it better with the currently visible map screen, which should cover the need for zoom & work with the map.

Interesting idea with swiping between interesting points on the track. I'm writing to "consider" list.

The small "i" button is only for testing purposes in the test version, no worry.

@joeloc
positive results, hmm nice, thanks too  ;)

Mini maps are (still) not yet rendered automatically after import, only when the track is created (route planner, track recording) directly in the app. Or manually by a long click on the preview.

Problem with the rendering of the recorded track .. good point > results of the optimizations. TODO

@slarti76
Thank you for the nice and precise report!

- not-synced points? Ah thanks, hopefully, get it.

- "synced tracks are sometimes not displayed after a sync" > visibility of points & tracks is not synced

- Track editor Insert/edit: Cannot select point exactly > as a fallback, still possible to move by the left/right arrows, right?

- Track editor: Insert/edit not working after 1 or 2 edits > I'm unable to simulate this issue in track editor, so video will be needed, thanks.

- Minimum zoom out factor not working > hmm, it has to be a really old problem. This parameter was completely ignored. So test it please in the next version.

- Display hiccups after startup/inactivity > not visible track recording should be fixed now. Do not know about the "Not visible active tracks" problem. How to simulate this? And the problem with "Nothing to display" in map content was already reported by @john_percy, but I was also not yet able to simulate this.

Different size in DB > It's possible. Can't say the exact reason without investigation.

Feature request > multi-export, sorry, not possible now. Too much work.

New version MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - Beta 6_988_beta, download

And do not forget on one new topic about the web planner ;)

Crashes should be fixed. @tapio, this is another older problem (missing feature). Not sure how many new things I'll be able to finish before we will release a public version ...

Web portal & sync / Web planner / portal
February 12, 2021, 20:32:44
Hi guys,
I would like to finally introduce the website we worked on the whole last year. Finally ...

Web planner / portal: https://web.locusmap.app

Core features
Without login or for the users without the Premium subscription

  • web planner with features close to the mobile app, with the ability to export the result into GPX file
  • online LoPoints with fast full-text search
For users with the Premium subscription (same as for free +...)

  • of course same as for free accounts +
  • your synced database of tracks, ready to basic analyze & (metadata) edit
  • automatic sync of changes to your device(s) within few seconds
  • and probably many more but who wants to read all this bla bla  :P

What (we are aware) is currently missing

  • web pages linked in the top toolbar
  • option to register new account directly over web
  • charts! (probably not ready till first public version)
  • ... you tell us

Onřej (@janaton), the guy behind this nice tool, is looking forward to some useful feedback. Use it please together with the new 'MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - Beta 6_988_beta' version, otherwise sync won't work auto-magically.

Well, that's all ... let's play  ;)

Wait wait ... when you tap on the point directly on the map, so only part of the map is covered, you are unable to dismiss this bottom "dialog" with a swipe from top to the bottom? You wrote this, but it definitely should work!

I thought you talk about a full-screen point screen (like click on the point in the "Points manager", not directly on the map screen).

These graphical problems may appear due to the complexity of the whole main screen layout. Fortunately, they are not serious problems.

I've added one more refresh of the "track rec button", so it should help here.
