@Andrew Heard
hmm, this is a nice mystery with your maps :). If you will be interested, I may create a special version with little more logs printed ...

@john_percy
last app version + last Voluntary V5 theme? Really?? Damn, probably version also for you :)

@michaelbechtold
in the link file should be a relative path to any pdf file or just Url to any web address

Any theme or theme feature does not work? Share it with me, thanks ;)

Version 4.5.6 was just published on Google Play.

@Andrew Heard
I was checking the code and it really does not make sense to me. Update to the new version once it will be available, re-select any vector map, and give it a try again, thanks. Michael wrote about an improved logging system > this is correct, but ... I'll explain it later :). But it does not help too much here ...

@slarti76
sorry for the confusion with the "media" directory. I was not yet trying it, so it was only my guess.

@michaelbechtold
give a try to this new version. What about start performance, better? Should be.

Android is really weird since A11.
"Android/media"

App create directory with the package name, so /Android/media/menion.android/locus/x
- app may read and write here without limits
- directory is deleted together with the app!!

App may also create any! directory here, so for example /Android/media/maps
- app can not read any content from this directory. Simply request "get files" return "nothing" even I've just put few maps there.
- directory is not deleted together with the app

Interesting.

Beta version 4.5.5.3 RC

So anyone has any troubles with existing themes in this latest Beta version or generally any other problem, please let me know. I'll publish tomorrow hopefully the latest bug-fix version to Google Play.

Also for Locus Map Pro, unfortunately without "All files access" > Google declined our request already twice in row ::). So I'll try to find a method to generate a custom "Pro" version with this access just for Google Drive download. But this later.

Thanks for the help and these of you, who enjoy some free time and relax over Christmas time, enjoy it ;)

@Andrew Heard
may you please share with me at least one theme that does not work with the latest Beta version? Everything I tried is working correctly on my device, thanks.

@tapio
lag, hmm. Should be visible loading, I'll look at it. Zipped themes need a little more time compared to directories so there may be a little slowdown when checking available themes. Not during usage, there will be no performance difference!

@slarti76
sorry, any alternative to "default maps dir" is not possible. Technically it is really forced to core defined directory. And why not simply setup "mapsVector" to the private directory on the SD card?

And yes, Android/media directory should be deleted as well once app is un-installed.

As Viajero wrote, good tip!

Grabbing info about map content directly from the map should be really complicated, but online query on OSM, why not. Not too user-friendly result, but usable  ;)

I see a problem with zipped themes, thanks. Should be fixed now so I'm going to prepare the version.

@luce, @bezel
sorry, this is quite a useless report. Which existing themes do not work? How should I simulate this problem?

@balloni55
really interesting because in the code, it is ok. It happen to you as well?

Change of "_themes" is not so easy guys. More than 1 mil. of users already use this system, 3rd party web pages that allows downloading map & themes directly relly on this. There will be also a problem with these zipped themes => how to correctly update non-zipped. We may discuss this later, but I do not think it is important to change it, sorry.

Hi, "Device admin" is not a permission, but a special kind of access to high-level system features. In the case of Locus Map, the app ask for this to be able to control screen on/off turning during navigation.

Check your device system settings > Security. There should be some item named "Device admin apps", where you may see all apps that have any such special access.

Summary of the current state ...

So after a push and push on the Google support

- Locus Map 4 passed a request on "All files access" (don't ask me how this is possible, probably some India guy had a bad day). So the latest app on Google Play has temporary!! exception. We have a little more time to prepare better on limited access now.

- Locus Classic (Locus Map Pro) request was declined. Currently we are waiting on another attempt, but as expected, this should not be allowed to such kind of app at all

- latest Locus Map 4 already has enabled support for /sdcard/Android/media/menion.android.locus/maps(Vector) directory, so feel free to try it. Just insert maps there, the app should load them automagically during (re)start.

Feel free to ask if something is not clear.

Hi,
full charts visible on your screenshots are also in Locus Map 4. Just tap on the small arrow in the top right corner of the small track chart.

About seconds > I do not think they are necessary. Anyway, big charts will be changing next year, so I'll try to keep this in my mind.

Beta version 4.5.5.1

Major update on how map handles vector map themes. Sorry, most probably themes setup will reset to you! The app now handles all themes with relative paths. Also it now fully supports themes in the ZIP archive. So if possible, test it, please! If there won't be any problem, it will be preferred method how to distribute themes

@balloni55
weird your double-maps. I've added a small update in the function "get all maps", which should also here eliminate any duplicities, so you will see in the next version.

Presets & themes ... please test it with the new version (rather set theme in presets again), thanks.

@CabrioTourer
From where is your screenshot? If this is a text from the app, then there is a problem with translation.

@Andrew Heard
problem with re-set of custom directory > ah thanks, got it. There was a condition, that in case, the selection is already used (in your case "Custom selection"), click on it do nothing. Fixed.

@slarti76
what you propose is what I wrote about a few months ago > it is the alternative worst case. I may offer a special version out of Google Play, there will currently be a problem with updates, but yes, it is doable. We still do not have result of verification of the Locus Map Pro, so hard to say how this ends :)

@Diddi
Testing POI alert and seems to work correctly. Please double check you have enabled required notification.

New version 4.5.5 is available on the Google Play.

Change in the A11+ file-system > check app settings > Misc > File manager and enjoy it ;). And please, do not forget to keep in mind (we will be writing it everywhere) > we have a temporary exception!! from the Google team. Temporary for how long? No one knows. So we have to prepare, it will end one day ...

Locus Map Pro is currently in the verification process ... we'll see how things go ...

Beta version: MapGooglePlay_4.5.4.1_1053_beta
- app now automatically create & scan "X/Android/media/menion.android.locus/maps(Vector)" directories for a maps. Give it a try and let me know ...
- you may try to simply import a map by the "Import" function over the app or click on any map file in the file browser and choose a Locus Map. The app should copy the selected file into maps or mapsVector directory and use it. No exact selection for now.

@michaelbechtold
- this is correct, in most cases is done copy & delete, not a direct move. Technical limitation ...
- current there is a small push to move also custom directories at once. Now, with the option to move maps separately to SD card, it brings some new options. Thanks, I'll think about it.
"Cannot obtain zoom levels" - Petr already wrote that he discuss this with you ...

@Andrew Heard
you were probably looking into the directory with Beta versions. It is correct, there was no Beta version younger the public version.

EDIT: ah @michaelbechtold, I've forget on one important update!!
Start app, long click on the main menu > "Log to file" and enable "Log to file" + choose both "initialize" options. Then stop the app, wait 5+ seconds and start again. In "Locus/logs" will be a log, so send me it please (latest). Thanks

A few days later ... version 4.5.4/3.56.3 is just ready to download from Google Play.

Fixed some start performance issues, import/export of GPX, connection to Galaxy Watches, and many more. Sorry for quite a lot of versions, I just prefer a quick fix instead of keeping bugged version public. Like old days :).

We will have to find out...

The latest version has a problem with the memory consumption of points & tracks, so I'm working on it now. The new version will be necessary ...

Once all will be correctly set, we may start some performance tests, like maps or app startup times. Thanks for understanding.

@freischneider
SRTM data needs fast access when you use hill-shading. Anyway, truth is that HGT files that are currently used should be cached in memory, so it should be slow only for this first-time app to use it. I'll have to do some benchmarks, but if you do not feel any difference when using hill-shading, no worry, and use it directly from the SD card.

@michaelbechtold
thanks for the summary and help with this complicated topic! The current state is definitely not a final version. We will be updating also based on the problems and support on the help desk!

Difference in performance > as mentioned in second topic - it will need some benchmark to verify the real impact on battery and performance.
