Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.14.+ ( 1/2023 )
February 24, 2023, 18:50:49
Just a quick info from me > sorry for the delay in answers this week. After 10 years, we were moving to the new office (again in Prague), so this week was more about this than some useful work. Next week will be better and I'll for sure answer all questions & problems. Thanks for understanding and have a nice weekend!

@baegas
Oki, I'll rather try it with service in Czech and let you know. But most probably Beta version with some special logging will be necessary.

@Andrew Heard
no matter what map you use? Revert is not so easy mainly because old files are deleted forever...

New Beta version 4.14.2.3

Two main changes
- support for LoMaps based on the MapsForge V4, more info here

- a new system for compute of uphill/downhill elevations. Results are usually about 10% smaller than the old system, but cover better smaller unwanted changes (0 - 5 meters) that happen on the flat. Give it a try and let me know if results are more realistic. This change does not affect incorrectly received altitude value (jumps)!

Other features / LoMaps + MapsForge V4
February 20, 2023, 22:04:30
Hi guys,
finally, after years, we are preparing LoMaps based on the latest MapsForge V4 library.

Useful info (numbered so it may be easier to ask for additional info if needed).

1. Required Beta version 4.14.2.3+: http://bit.ly/lmVersionsTest

2. App contains the latest public code for MapsForge lib. So not the latest official 0.18.0 version, but 0.18.0 + latest changes and fixes: https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/blob/master/docs/Changelog.md#new-since-0180

3. LoMaps, for testing of the new theme (currently only Europe) are prepared here: http://bit.ly/3IFmOS4

4. Public repository with the latest "LoMaps offline theme" and also tagging file is here: https://github.com/asamm/lomaps-mapsforge . Seems that @voldapet has to add some "readme".

5. You may notice that themes contains also a separate "poi" theme. This is a special addition currently only for internal LoMaps that affect the display of offline LoPoints (the base map theme does not contain instructions for the LoPoints icons at all). If interested, I may add support for this for public themes as well.

6. The New MapsForge library contains many useful improvements and also some fixes that may be interesting for overcomplicated hacks that are done in OpenAndroMaps regards colors (more here: https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/pull/1366 )

7. Here also comes the idea to unite tag-mapping-xml for main MapsForgeV4-based maps. This should make a life for all theme creators so much easier. What do you think, mainly @Tobias?

8. I would also like to notify all map creators who have themes created for current V3-based LoMaps (and others) about this, namely: @john_percy , @Magellan , @karlchick , @LocusUser#1 , @Tobias, and others ...

9. And the last. If you notice any issue in the rendering system for V4 maps, feel free to ask me as well. I may help here a little bit.

10. New maps are not compatible with current public maps, so auto-loading won't work between them.

Uff, hope this is all. Thanks for reading and testing if someone will want to try it  ;)

Hello zabo,
currently, there are no options to modify this generated preview. No other options exist as far as I know.
This functionality was made some time ago as an alternative to sharing routes with friends. Currently, we have a web.locusmap.app portal, there may be more easily visible shared tracks, so exactly this function is not needed at all I believe.

We are currently thinking about the option to "print" a visible map with the route from the web, but a) it is another story and b) most probably there also won't be extra parameters.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Bottom Panel won't hide

Perfect. What you see is not an error but an intent. Panels try to use the smaller possible space now + it have to look nice  :)

LoMaps in V4 and LoMaps themes updated to V4 are in internal testing and most probably will be published this week as Beta + in the public version in March ;).

Troubles & Questions / Re: Bottom Panel won't hide
February 13, 2023, 08:42:43
The bottom panel was completely recreated and this is just a minor (from my point of view) issue in the more advanced settings. Anyway as Tapio wrote, it is already fixed so try the beta or wait please till the next app version will be published. Thanks.

@Andrew Heard
Search > unite results is currently technically impossible, sorry. Anyway there are voices in our team, to fully unite "All functions" and "Settings". Can't imagine how to do it thought  :D

(LMA) in release notes > ignore for now. It is the shortcut for "Locus Map only". I'm just trying to simplify my work by writing single "News" page that will modify correctly if visible in the Locus Map or Locus Classic apps.

Scroll in Presets > improved, thanks.

Invisible tiles in downloader > sorry for this. This is anyway a problem in the app most probably since begin. It is an issue on the -180/180 longitude border and I was not able to find a solution on it. For now ...

"Sync message" > it is enabled in the Beta version for testing anyway oki, time to disable it. And 30 seconds? It makes sense to me. It is an internal parameter of how long the app waits till the moment any change in data is detected, till synchronization starts.

@CabrioTourer
Presets > https://help.locusmap.eu/search/tag:presets

@Žajdlík Josef
I do not know about any method how to simply send the location to OSMGo for adding a new point. This is probably a task on me, to contact this app developer and discuss any options.

Adding photos to LoPoints, this is task on @Marek Scholtz anyway this is close to the topic you created on the help desk. We've discussed it in the office next week and we agree there is a space for improvements, we were not yet able to find out any universal solution. Thanks for understanding.

New Beta version 4.14.2.1

@lor74cas
interesting readings, thanks! Quite a complicated task when HEIC is not natively supported in the Android API!

@Andrew Heard
Search in "All functions" is independent on the search in "Settings". For now ...

And points & tracks > I forget to write about it, sorry. A good point of course. In the next version, the first initial sync will ignore these settings, so points & tracks won't be automatically loaded!

@lor74cas
thanks for the reminder about older posts. The first is more on @Radim V , I've informed him. Second about HEIC ... well even the latest Android 13 on Pixel 5 is unable to take photos in this format. Your Samsung device is capable of?

@baegas
thanks for the NMEA file. I believe I've found a small issue. Will be fixed in the next app version.

@Tapio
the bottom panel ... thanks, I still tune some remaining tiny problems like this.

@joeloc
hmm, nice. Understand. I see a few solutions
- ignore this, oki, not ideal
- make this button semitransparent so the color on problematic pixels will change during usage
- make this button auto-hiding like the rest of the main screen UI (technically problematic because the button is connected directly to the map, not the map screen)
- allow hiding it completely, something I do not want to do because I still believe that copyright is must-have when using maps based on OpenStreetmap and others.

I'm choosing a change of style ... so the next version.

@Andrew Heard
uff, so many found issues, I'm impressed, thanks!

"Search for backup" > backup manager was moved into the Settings into the new category "Backup & filesystem".

"Notifications" > improved

"Dashboard list" > this is really really interesting. I'm unable to simulate it. In my case, the app always inserts a small gap at the bottom of the list. Hmm, I have no idea why this happens, sorry.

"Login screen" > I've plan to invest some time into this one, so thanks, note to "TODO" list added.

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.14.+ ( 1/2023 )

@baegas
to check VDOP value and why it does not refresh, I'll need from you recorded NMEA messages created in the time, the problem was visible. It may be done by enabling NMEA recorded in the Locus Map > settings > GPS & sensors > NMEA recording. Thanks.

@Andrew Heard
problem with the bottom panel > it is a work in progress. We are preparing an updated version of this panel that will hopefully help here.

@lor74cas
Weather is discussed mainly here on the help desk. Two points are solved now. "Yellow", hmm, I do not know. I may delete value by 3, but on the second side, app display 3-hours interval ...

@freischneider
trackpoint view - heh, probably because of two lines caused by the long track name right? :). Hmm, thanks.

Hi and welcome :)
It is more about OsmAnd than OruxMaps. OruxMaps is very close to Locus Map, but it is not so actively developed, and hard to say what are Jose's plans.

SHP files are fully supported in Locus GIS app. I do not think it belongs to Locus Map app as it is format focused on GIS & mapping.
