Add-ons & Co-apps / DirectCall Add-On
January 10, 2022, 09:18:43
Hi, I made a very simple add-on mainly for myself but didn't want to keep it from you.

The add-on allows you to add a button to the main map screen for calling a configured phone number with a single touch.

    How to use:

    • Install the add-on from Play Store or via the APK file.
    • From your apps screen/launcher, start "DirectCall Settings" and configure the desired phone number and additional settings.
    • Re-Start Locus Map, tap the "set function panels" button, tap the "+" and then "Add function button". Select "DirectCall" from the category "Add-ons".
    • Tap the newly added DirectCall button to start a test call. You may need to confirm the "phone" permission the first time you do this.

    Features:
    • Call a preconfigured phone number from the Locus Map main screen
    • Optionally display a confirmation dialog before calling
    • Optionally call with speaker enabled
    • Starting "DirectCall" from your apps screen/launcher will also start a call, same way as the button in Locus Map
    • DirectCall does not perform a VoIP call, but uses the default phone app on your device to start a regular phone call

    Source code is available on
GitHub.

Little issue: the quick button for the theme "layers" (see red circle) shows only a blank list.

Solved in 4.5.6, thank you!
And merry Christmas from Austria  :)

... this one doesn't work any more with LM4 but still works with LM3.

Best, Lucas

Locus doesn't create its directories in Android/Media. Not in both, int/ext. Also, I didn't manage to make it parse it. Paths as you wrote. Maps, MapsVector. Tried restart LM, used the refresh function in the map manager...

Webp support works nicely, thx.

I'm using them on ext sd quite a while and noticed no problem at all.

@michaelbechtold
you lost some maps or how should I understand your post?

That was a happy fun message, documenting success. They were gone from the old location /1st line) and ended up at the target (2nd) sentence.

Sorry for the confusion.

Summarizing the experience and discussions from the last weeks:
- the current support for SRTM, mapsVector, maps for both, INT and EXT SD private space is powerful enough to help all use cases, i.e. map storage needs, capacities etc. - well done! A big THANK YOU!
- the backup to ANY folder, even outside private space is great - although I do not understand how you could escape the Android 11+/API 30 limitations. Well, these are not files with need for random access (like DBs and maps); maybe that helped. Will it survive Google "fixes" (below the level of yet another storage model) ?
- the GPX export to the backup location would be really nice
- guiding the community of users who are not able to help themselves to make the right choices is the gap I see
Fingers crossed ...
Cheers
Michael

Quoteah got it. Seems to be a new limitation of A11 where it can't access downloaded images in a private directory. Uff, fortunately there exists a method directly from Google ... should work in the next app version.
confirm solved :D thanks

Menion, that is not what your users can expect from you.
I am the most outspoken on that one - easy as a Locus user of many years and a comp.science person since 40 years.
But you should be scared of the silent mass who is not even aware of the pot. tsunami hitting them.

As a partial remedy you should establish the possibility to have both /Andoid/data locations used. Following Michal's point, the right approach would be to have the app function and performance critical parts on the internal private location, while the mostly readonly data like maps and SRTM and alike are allowed on external SD private folder as well.
Then capacity INSIDE the Locus only world will not bite - users do not have to buy a bigger phone :-)
My other challenges are not met, but for the mass of users above should be safe - and keep peace in the user base. And Asamm ...

Good luck.
Cheers
Michael

Yes, solved... just some rare collision? with overwrite mode. 1623 exported tracks, 1622 files. Will check on PC (totalcmd) what's the missing file.

Quote from: Andrew Heard on November 10, 2021, 22:45:03The pattern (at least) is 4 very experienced users now report the same issue. That's a good start.
I created a Helpdesk entry for it:

To clarify...  After moving directories, the files left behind in Locus/mapsOnline were named LoMaps_Hike&Bike.*, with sizes 443kb, 340kb, and 32kb.
I believe that was from the map that was shown by default after the move (during the move?), and the smallish file sizes would reflect a single screen of tiles.  I immediately switched back to my usual vector maps and re-selected the theme.

Selecting other online maps afterward does NOT add more files to this folder.

EDIT:  It also seems to have forgotten the selection for a pre-loaded global map.  But I was able to re-select it manually.

Maps / Re: Help with KMZ maps

Only certain files are saved in the Locus folder.
Unfortunately, Locus doesn't write anything about it in the manual.
Only settings and tracks / points (without attachments such as images and voice recordings) are saved.
I recommend doing an automatic backup of the Locus folder yourself. I use Foldersync and Drivesync here. The whole thing is backed up with WLAN in the cloud.
Additionally: Tracks are automatically exported to GDrive when they are saved. So I have it as a single gpx on the PC. With Locus they are only available as a database in the backup.
