@Mapper: you need to use the special LMP AFA version from Google Drive to have AFA power.
Google denied MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE privilege for LMP ...

What's the issue with the UI?
Two panes you can switch by swipe, select a file or folder and do something with it.
You can play with it with some copied data, so nothing breaks and you learn.
Then enjoy the power.
I agree that should not be needed for normal app users. But the transition to cope with those new Android 11 limitations is painful. For the creators as well as for the users with the fallout of it.
Once Menion properly deals with /Android/media folders on that upper level, thing will become much easier, also in the interaction between Apps that need the maps and SRTM mass data, and should not be forced to duplicate it.

1) not - yet - as crazy as iOS - you can do a lot with the right tools. Pls. install x-plore as a start.
2) which version of LM are you using? 4 or Pro?
3) AFA means all files accessible. x-plore has that, LM4 as well (for now)
4) pls. tell the LM storage setup: settings-misc--default directories. Main directory and thevsub-folders. Once we understand your setup we can advise.
5) x-plore can handle everything, except writing files to EXT SD private folders. Only for the latter you'd need the PC based escape

Without harm means that the app is not important to me.

@Andrew: Menion has extended the logging significantly. Long tap on the low left Hamburger menu, tap the logging option and switch on the first 3 of them.
You can see quite a bit yourself what is happening under the cover... And Menion will see even more ;-)

Quickest way is a downgrade to 3.5.5 (2021-09)
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U8U1D-NGQ9CAnqXAkleEXi46wH2T7tMR

As you have no time debug.

The 3.5.5 can access all the folders on ext SD.
If the migration has moved some things in the wrong place, use x-plore or Solid Explorer or Total Commander to put them in the right location carefully - or a PC/USB connect.

Good luck. And nice travels.

Hi Andrew,
someone had such in LMP as well last week or early this week.
The path is fully broken and blocks any user action with it.
Need to leave that to Menion.
Cheers
Michael

@michaelbechtold
you lost some maps or how should I understand your post?

That was a happy fun message, documenting success. They were gone from the old location /1st line) and ended up at the target (2nd) sentence.

Sorry for the confusion.

Summarizing the experience and discussions from the last weeks:
- the current support for SRTM, mapsVector, maps for both, INT and EXT SD private space is powerful enough to help all use cases, i.e. map storage needs, capacities etc. - well done! A big THANK YOU!
- the backup to ANY folder, even outside private space is great - although I do not understand how you could escape the Android 11+/API 30 limitations. Well, these are not files with need for random access (like DBs and maps); maybe that helped. Will it survive Google "fixes" (below the level of yet another storage model) ?
- the GPX export to the backup location would be really nice
- guiding the community of users who are not able to help themselves to make the right choices is the gap I see
Fingers crossed ...
Cheers
Michael

@Menion: after rereading carefully I understood that the backup folder can be outside of the private Android/data realms.
I tried and it worked.
From your earlier explanations I do not understand why such would work. And why not for all the other needs.
Can you pls enlighten me?
TXs and cheers
Michael
