Menion... could you please please pretty please consider accepting XML files for "open with..." and "share" with Locus?

I am meanwhile completely fed up with explaining people where to put their custom maps and overlays... it's simply beyond the ability of a normal user, especially now that Locus has to hide its home directory in funky places, not easily accessible by your default file explorer.

The Strava Heatmap nowadays is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL for mountain bike navigation and beats any OSM tagging hands down all over the world. But getting it into Locus requires some kind of advanced super knowledge at the moment. How great would it be if you could simply click on the XML attachment here, choose open with / share with Locus, and simply be offered to import the contents (if any).

Locus should not only accept custom map definition XML files, but also any other type of file that it deals with: database backups... cursor definitions... dashboards... god knows what... zipped or unzipped. Just parse whatever you're given and present the user with reasonable choices on what do to with it.

Ich teste es gerade und kann es auf dem Locus Classic nicht simulieren. Seltsam, dass Sie dieses Problem mit der neuesten Version haben. Aber das Backup wird benötigt, danke.

And guys, with Android 13, even a hack that filebrowsers used to access Android/data stopped to work (I've discovered this yesterday). One additional option exists for now that use Locus Map 4 to access private data of Locus Map Classic and that seems to be used also the (till today unknown) "FV File Explorer" ...

And I really expect this hack will be patched in Android 14. Long life to Locus Map AFA version 

Is cloud sync actually supposed to work? I just tried it for the very first time and it remains at 1% forever.

@joeloc - maybe just 1% for a longer than expected time - I experienced similar behavior with the initial bulk upload - have a look at & maybe vote or comment on my suggestion https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/26282-provide-more-info-while-performing-cloud-sync. I use manual cloud sync & it's a great facility, but would like to see more details during progress, and finer grained update of the progress bar.

More details and progress updates are absolutely required, especially when performance is that miniscule. I have no patience for staring at a never changing 1% number. And since there is no network traffic worth mentioning during that time, I simply abort.

Also as mentioned in a few posts a few weeks ago - auto-start of track recording is problematic if the GPS vertical position is not yet accurate, for example when the GPS is first enabled. Attached is an even more dramatic example than the previous post. Unless you manually edit the track & delete a few initial points, the elevation chart is useless.

I reported this bug a long time ago - on a large map download the progress bar may get stuck @ "99% | 1 items remains". You can wait as long as you like but it never got to 100% complete until I closed the Notification Centre panel then opened it again. It probably only happens rarely.

Es geht aber nicht um die Ablesbarkeit bei "normalem" Licht sondern um die Ablesbarkeit während der Fahrt, wenn die Sonne voll scheint??

Ich habe es noch einmal gründlich getestet und versucht, das Problem nachzustellen. Auch bei vollem Sonnenschein kann ich keinen Unterschied feststellen. Bei LM4 ind LMpro ist und bleibt das Display gleich hell (was bei frontaler Sonne natürlich trotz maximaler Helligkeit bei beiden schlecht lesbar ist).

Das S 7 habe ich nie getestet. Bei mir begann es beim S 8. Das bei den neueren Geräten deutliche Helligkeitsunterschiede zwischen den beiden Apps bestehen wurde selbst von Menion bestätigt.

Die von Jonny.blue genannte App zeigt zumindest bei meinem S 21 ja auch die versteckte Funktion des Dimmens ab einer bestimmten Akkutemperatur (weshalb das bei LM 3 nicht geschieht?). Diese Funktion des Zwangsdimmens gab es bei den älteren Geräten  (vor dem S 10) nicht. Bei meinem S 8 hat Alliance Shield diese Funktion nicht gefunden. Hier ist mir ein Dimmen auch nie aufgefallen.

Wenn daher das S 7 beide Apps gleich hell oder dunkel (im Vergleich zum S 21) darstellt dann war da s nicht die Frage. Hier ging es eigentlich nur um die Geräte S 10 aufwärts.

Jetzt aber wirklich endlich wieder in die Praxis. Um die Akkutemperatur zu ermitteln, habe ich mich aufgerafft und bin bei 32 Grad 90 Minuten in überwiegend voller Sonne gefahren. Die Temperatur betrug max. 41,2 Grad, ganz überwiegend aber um die 38-39 Grad. Das Display des S21 war die ganze Zeit super hell und bestens ablesbar. So macht Fahren mit dem Navi wirklich Spaß!

Dir, jonny.blue nochmals vielen Dank für den tollen Tipp. Ich hatte die Hoffnung schon aufgegeben.

Ich habe die App Alliance shield installiert und nach diesen Anweisungen konfiguriert ... und tatsächlich bleibt (ich habe es direkt mit Google Maps getestet) das Display im grellen Sonnenlicht absolut hell.
Leider habe ich im Moment kein Zeit Locus umzuinstallieren, aber in drei Tagen nehme ich mir dann LM4 vor ...😏

Du missverstehst mich. Ich meinte: Man kann Locus bzgl. des Routings widersprüchliche Befehle geben.

a) "Always on: [X] During navigation"
b) "Navigation: Link with presets"

Wenn Preset b) always-on abschaltet, tritt der Fall ein. Mit sowas sollten wir Menion nicht beschäftigen. Ich habs nur aus akademischen Gründen erwähnt 😁

EDIT: Habe es nochmal genauer angesehen. Da ist kein Widerspruch. Sondern einfach eine Option, die durch ein Preset überschrieben wird. So muss man das sehen. Genug davon...

Thanks for the tip. World map was missing/not functioning on my new phone. Now I have the version up to zoom 10 80% running smoothly. And I had to set it within Locus as the preferred pre loading map and ditch the older ones.

Locus vermisst die alte Karte. Warum nur... Seufz. Ich hatte sie vorher gelöscht und die neue Karte erst im Nachgang konfiguriert. Locus verzeiht das aber nicht und bleibt beleidigt.

Konnte es nur fixen, indem ich die neue nochmal wegkonfiguriert habe (also preload global map: keine), dann benannte ich sie in die gewünschte j70 um, dann war Locus glücklich. Dann Locus beendet, die Karte wieder korrekt umbenannt, dann reinkonfiguriert, jetzt ist Ruhe.

Ich würde meinen, dass das für die Jpg-Qualität der Kacheln steht.

No one has commented on the change of Zoom button color in 4.10.0.8. I like it - consistent with other buttons & better contrast, but being such a big visual change I'm hoping there isn't a user backlash & reversion to original color scheme
