Maps / Re: Universal world map
January 17, 2018, 00:46:19
Thanks for the link and for the hard work that has gone into the maps.
Feedback on this version: ZL8 in the UK looks great. Not so good in countries with two versions of place names, and I'm not keen on the coloured outlines.
The low zooms (1, 2, 3) look good, too, but some of the intermediate levels look far too crowded for my taste.
Also, some of the Arabic place names are using an incorrect font.

@menion: Theme XML files can't share the same directory in Locus. If there are two XML files in the same directory, Locus shows neither theme. So it is safe to simply delete the directory containing the theme XML file.
Some themes do use a second directory for graphic resources which may be used by other themes. That cannot be deleted unless one is sure it is not used by another theme.

@Michael: thanks - are your latest versions available elsewhere?

1. I've got the world map to work with world map from OAM. Thanks for the response. I'm not sure that I prefer it to the old Vector version though.
2. Quite frequently the beta app opens to a blank white map. Zooming in or out redraws the map correctly. I think this may be when it should be displaying the world map but I'm not sure yet.

Thank you so much, Menion.
The new overview map feature works like a charm.
Michael
How do you get the overview map to work? I get Disabled in settings and can't change the setting. I have the hidden world map from the Locus Store downloaded and working.

Maps / Re: How to add OpenStreetMap Online Map
January 11, 2018, 09:08:46
For me, I have OSM - Outdoors available in Locus. That covers the whole world, though I don't like its appearance.
You might like to search Google Playstore for Locus Map Tweak which adds a number of custom maps to Locus. That app is not supported on this forum however.

Have you tried OAM V3 maps?
I suggest you ask on the OAM forum. If this is a bug, Christian is likely to seek to correct it.

I think the menu command is:
Menu : Settings : Maps : Offline maps : LoMaps and other Vector maps

The illustrations below show LoMaps England and Wales with and without this setting selected and the relevant settings page.

Troubles & Questions / Backup and restore worked
December 27, 2017, 15:47:07
For some reason Locus Pro disappeared from my phone today. Just went.
I reinstalled from the Play Store but all my settings were gone. So, I found the latest automatic backup and did a restore and now all is well!

Others may be able to give a better answer but my understanding is that BRouter is designed as a bicycle routing app (hence the name) and works OK for hiking. Although poutniki has written vehicle profiles, it is still said to have flaws if used for vehicle routing. It seems quite reasonable to me however.
GraphHopper has a better approach to vehicle routing but cannot route across map boundaries.
The OSM map data has all the information required for routing, just not arranged in a way that is suitable for working out routes in real time. There's a lot of irrelevant information included, for a start (like the location of public toilets) which would just overload memory and slow down the process. The connections between road segments need to be analysed and databased in order to allow efficient computation. The "graphs" produced for GraphHopper are just this data extracted from the OSM information. BRouter data is already processed (hurrah) and downloadable as large tiles.
The user experience with offline GraphHopper is not good because of the need to generate routing data oneself. BRouter is better in that respect but still requires the routing data to be specifically downloaded. Both have the great advantage over online options of allowing routing where there is no mobile signal available.
Personally I use Google maps for online routing, MapFactor Navigator for offline car routing when necessary, Locus and BRouter for hiking routing. Mainly I just use Locus with offline maps for displaying and following routes on the ground.
I may have some of this wrong, and others may improve on this answer.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Navigation set up

Hello,

Is it possible to select map orientation "track up"? At Garmin you can select "track up" or "north up".
"Track up" is to show your current direction of travel at the top of the page.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Sietse
Tap the Rotate Map button, second from left on the bottom bar.

I installed Tiramisu 3 LE theme but it does not display all hiking trails in LoMaps.

I compared several map themes and here are the results.

Shows all hiking trails?
Hike & Bike = Yes
Tiramisu 3 LE = No
Elevate LE = No
HiLo = Yes
Voluntary UK = Yes

Full-size image
Voluntary is designed to work with both LoMaps and OAMaps. I know Elevate is only designed to work with OAMaps. I suspect you may find the missing trails if you try OpenAndroMaps with such themes.

The help manual shows "Delete route" in the illustration instead of "Clear planner".

Ah this one again.
Stupid unsolvable "bug" in Android: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/36992828 . Well, Android developers consider this as "not a bug", so it won't be solved and as I'm searching, still no one discovered any hack how to bypass this, sorry.
I understand. The particular problem in this screen is that the Save button disappears, making the UI useless.
