Themes - Vector maps / Re: [Theme] Voluntary
July 30, 2023, 09:40:29
@Žajdlík Josef
I will prepare a test version tonight with cycleway highlighting enabled at the same time as colour-coded cycle routes, treating cycleways as local cycle routes, for cycling style
I think this is my preferred solution.
Test version: https://voluntary.nichesite.org/beta.html
Although I understand your request, I very much do not want to add another option to the menu - Voluntary theme is intended to offer only limited options for simplicity.
Please look tomorrow and tell me what you think.

In these examples the cycleway doesn't actually disappear but it's admittedly hard to see at that zoom. (It is in any case redrawn in a thinner version above roads etc to ensure it is visible.)
I'm reluctant to attempt to give it an extra highlight as the various emphasis lines for the routes are carefully stacked to work with multiple types of route and cannot be readily changed.

There is no straightforward way to distinguish Lomaps from OAM maps. In many cases you can write a test that works for both maps, though I'm not sure it will work in this case. If I understand you correctly, then if location="~", Lomaps and OAM maps understand it differently. Is that right?

@Menion @voldapet
Doesn't Locus support the improved text break algorithm in Mapsforge? In the screenshot, the town name ought to break at a hyphen.

(As in https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/pull/1392 )

Quote from: Žajdlík Josef on July 08, 2023, 10:46:19Hi John, I still have a request for you about cycling style. The trees overlap cycling and their highlights. Would it be possible to move the layers so that the cycling routes are always visible?
That's easier said than done. However the real issue is there are too many trees mapped in the Lomaps version. OAM only has "important" trees. I'd like to try simply reducing the number of trees shown and also increasing their transparency. Could you please try a beta version I will upload overnight?

Quote from: Henk van der Spek on July 07, 2023, 20:33:27In the startpost you write: LM4 required but here with classic 3.68.2 it works great too.
Ah... is LM3 able to use Mapsforge V4+ maps? Do you use OAM maps?

Sorry, Dont't know. I only use the latest OAM maps (V5).
Both LM3 and LM4 can use the latest OAM maps. Obviously you get a better result with a theme designed for OAM.
Both LM3 and LM4 can display the latest Lomaps, using the same renderer and themes as for OAM maps, though once again you get best results with a theme designed for Lomaps or for both OAM maps and Lomaps.
Both LM3 and LM4 can display older Lomaps with Locus's own renderer. Themes have to be designed for older Lomaps or they won't show on the theme selector.

A new version will be uploaded tonight which doesn't display the "P" if you have selected the Cycling style within the Voluntary theme. It still shows the "P" with a hat for car park building structures (generally multistorey) as they may be of use as location aids.
If you choose to display LoPoints as an overlay on the map, the "P" from that continues to be displayed.

Quote from: Andrew Heard on June 26, 2023, 05:16:22BTW with the Voluntary V5 theme, LM is redirected to the web browser and URL kmu.files.cnow.at with error "Bad Gateway". But maybe I have an old version.
That's an old version of Voluntary. Please install the latest Voluntary V5 Locus edition from https://voluntary.nichesite.org

You are hitting a map boundary. You are supposed to be able to set offline maps to load the next map also in Settings>Maps>Offline maps>Automatic map loading.
It didn't use to work very well with OAM maps but now it doesn't seem to work very well with Lomaps either.I did a quick test with v4 Lomaps of England, Wales and Scotland and the results were inconsistent. Sometimes the new map loaded, sometimes not.

I can only guess, as you do, that it's something to do with the way the highways have been drawn. It's a whole lot better now that Mapsforge renders pathtext along curved paths but it's still far from ideal.
I think @Emux knows most about this.

@Viajero Perdido
Voluntary V5 LE which is compatible with both OAM and LoMaps shows names for lakes etc on Lomaps at zoom 16 and above. For technical reasons connected with  compatibility with OAM maps I don't show lake names on Lomaps below that.
Install the latest Voluntary theme for Locus from https://voluntary.nichesite.org

PS OAM takes the named area for a lake and creates a named point at the centre that appears at differing zoom levels, depending on the lake size.

Disused route
Terribly sorry, my bad. I downloaded the wrong region of Germany from the latest maps and was inadvertently looking at an old map instead. You are correct, that issue has been resolved, thanks.

Disused route
It is clearest where there is only one route such as Höhlenweg: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/86496950
https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/2003487
This is tagged type=disused_route (perhaps should be tagged type=historic:route). In any case it ISN'T type=route, which should be a requirement.

Tunnel
The linked post is about a tunnel, though there is a viaduct alongside. The problem is that the tunnel DOESN'T appear on Lomaps! (Maybe that's why you thought the link wasn't about a tunnel!) I think this must be the case with any underwater tunnel in LoMaps -- it dates back to the old maps as well.

The best solution is to do with layers, so that may have to wait.

Thanks!

Disused route: name has gone, but route still shows as nwn. The two routes that run there are both lwn. https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=8309.msg71706.msg#71706
Edit: or look here where there is only the one route and the route still shows but is nameless! geo:51.37445,7.63300?z=19

Tunnel unchanged https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=8309.msg71369.msg#71369
