Troubles & Questions / Re: My Location
September 23, 2012, 10:51:43
What I did not realize right away that it does NOT activate GPS but rather only uses activated "location sources" (linke menion wrote). So in order to use GPS you first have to activate GPS outside of Locus!

ketani, is your phone in silent mode (independent of what is set in the app)? If so, then first put your phone into non-silent mode.

The new final version of the app worked fine for me. Thank you!

I had another idea concerning this problem: You could additionally check the acceleration (second time-derivative) in order to further improve robustness, if some people still encounter problems.

Well, I understand your point but it is not intuitive when compared to the big competitor google maps. That's why it took me so long to realise that my phone was in silent mode. If you insist on being silent, when the phone is in silent mode, then I suggest to disable the specific items so that it is clear to the user why he can not hear any noise.

I have my phone in silent mode for 90% of the time and only want some selected apps to be able make "noise".

Yes I am a pro user since five minutes after first app-start ;-)
Ok, then I will give it a shot :-)

Today I figured it out. The navigation voice only works when the system is not in silent mode! Please fix this, so that the voice is played out load, even if the phone is in silent mode.

Since I am abroad the next couple of weeks with uncertain internet access I will refrain from installing this test-version. Or is it save to install it side-by-side?

Yesterday I created a log with "OSMTracker" and experienced the same issue. Sot it is not only you, who has problems with "jumping" of gps-positions.

Menion, I think your argumentation is reasonable. And what you implented now, seems is what I suggested in this thread: "filter out some nonesense values like extreme jumps in lat / lon" ..between two succeeding points.

Your current approach was useless because due to bad gps-reception it took a rather long time until the next valid point came in. This then reduced the "virtual speed", as you already noticed.

We will see, wether your new approach is sufficient :-)

I sent you the exported track via email. I had NMEA messages disabled but switched them on now.

Menion, I know this setting and it is set to "when outside the map" (second option), though when I scroll outside a map and only see white background I am still not offered the quick switch button.

I played further around and noticed, that when I am for example in zoom level 3 and scroll a lot south then the white background changes to a grid and then the button appears (as expected).  The question is, what the white background means? Is it linked to the map and theme I use? Right now I have the thailand map (www.openandromaps.org) loaded together with the theme "volatile_cycle_hike".

Thank you for looking into it.

Right now the button to fast switch maps is displayed in the top-left corner when I zoom out to level 1. This is not comfortable. I hope you would present this button on something like level 6. As an alternative you could make the button visible, as soon as no map-item is rendered on the current screen (when I zoom out and then move the map in some direction).

Thank you for considering!

Yesterday I observed again of the above described glitch. One point jumped a couple of hundred km south-south-west of my position. This happened while I had bad GPS reception. In case you are interested in the recorded track-file I will gladly send it to you via email.

Troubles & Questions / Re: Navigation: no voice
August 12, 2012, 16:15:22
Hi there,

as before I see three options for voice: "no voice, text-to-speech and eliska oc". I selected Text-to-speec. "Mute navigation" is not ticked. Volume is set to 26%.
I just started (again) a small test and this time selected start and end positions "from map" -- now I heard some tts-voice. This is really strange! I will monitor my issue and perhaps try some different voice.

Thank you!
Peter

edit: I watched the video. Interestingly I only hear a "test-voice" if I switch to "eliska". If I switch to "tts" i do not hear some test-voice.
