Maps / Vectormap of CzechRepublic now with kct_ Tags
November 17, 2012, 13:10:10
Hi,

The resolving of the hiking routes now respects the special tagging of the czech hiking relations.
The routes tagged as kct_red=major now are translated into (hike)network=nwn and all other routes with kct_*=major are set as (hike)network=rwn

This results in at least two times the amount of redered hiking ways in the Czech Republic (3200 resolved hiking relations)

The National Park "Thayatal" now renders correct in Mapsforge, I repaired the wrong tagging in the OSM-Database.

Any feedback to further improve this map is highly appreciated.

Quote from: "col"Have either of you tried building and using the newest version of map-writer pluging with the coastline? Have some Maven issues but intrested in the results.

No, the plugin has several pitfalls compared to my solution:
- pure 64bit
- need lots of memory (type=HD does'nt work)
- no chance to correct faulty polygons (there are several)

Quote from: "col"Can anyone shed some light on what is happening here. The maps create fine, but have missing parts. First image has missing centre of map, zoom 1-7, whole map appears at zoom 8, but with squares of polygon data missing.

Hi col,

As Jurajs mentioned, this is an issue of displaying too much data.
Keep in mind that:
- every time you zoom out 4 times the amount of data have to be rendered
- you render data on a smartphone, this means 1GHz cpu, one core, a couple of MB Ram, a usual Tileserver has at least 4cores an 32Gb ram..

To look deeper into this issue:
Per default Mapsforge stores data into 3 BaseZoomlevels
- 0-7
- 8-11
- 12-22
So if you store  <osm-tag key="contour_ext" value="elevation_major" zoom-appear="6" force-polygon-line="true" /> it means that this have to be prozessed (checked at least) in level 0 to 7   result is crash.
Same with  <osm-tag key="contour_ext" value="elevation_medium" zoom-appear="10" force-polygon-line="true" /> it means that this have to be prozessed in level 8 to 11

I do not recommend to use elevation Data above Level 12

However, the BaseZoolLevel can be modified by the param "zoom-interval-conf".
For some Maps I use 4 BaseLevels zoom-interval-conf=5,0,6,8,7,9,11,10,12,15,13,21
0-6
7-9
10-12
13-21
With this conf. you MAY try to start contourlines (mayor, medium) at level 10,
IF you move tags that you do not realy need at level 12 to level 13.

There is another issue for rendering Data in Levels 0-11: simplification-factor

"simplifies ways and polygons with a topology preserving algorithm similar to the Douglas Peucker algorithm, using as the maximum distance difference value the given simplification factor (evaluated in pixels on max zoom level of a base zoom level); on base zoom levels higher than 12, no simplification is computed,  Default=5"

This means that per default ways are simplyfied in these levels to reduce memory footprint resulting in ugly/useless contourlines.

Critical Areas in Europe (not only for contourlines):
Netherlands, Germany along the NL Border, UK mid+south

Quote from: "john_percy"Currently, the "sea level" contour line disagrees with the coastline. My workaround is to simply amend the theme to hide the elevation=0 contour line, relying on the fact that the tag mapping does not add elevation data to this line. This won't work in areas where the land comes down steeply to sea level as other contour lines may stray into the sea area. And if you use a map with sea tiles from OpenAndroMaps, then this is not needed - those maps seem to hide the zero elevation contour line by default.
Is there a better way of doing this?

Hi John,

I recommend to use phyghtmap V1.44, it has an option (-0) to skip the creation of the zero-contourline.
So there is no more need to hack phyghtmap as it was necessary up to V1.43 or to play arround with the theme.

NEW VERSION OF PYGHTMAP (1.44) IS AVAILABLE...

http://katze.tfiu.de/projects/phyghtmap/download.html

Yep, with long awaited

.... skip-zero Option
.... hgt-directory Option
and some Bugfixes
seems a bit faster too processing border cuts
works with WinXP32/Python27

IMO it's highly recommended to switch to new Version

Quote from: "stbi"All 3 "image pairs" show the same sections with zoom level 11 on the left and zoom level 12 on the right.

So it's not only mapsforge.org which has problems with rendering curves.

I'll see where I can leave a bug report for mapsforge.org and openandromaps.org ...

Hi Stefan,

openandromaps uses Mapsforge for creating the maps (Land/Sea Tiles is my own algorithm),
so please report this problem only to mapsforge  ;)

As I wrote in my previous post, zoomlevels 0-12 reder wrong, from 13 on its correct.

Most likely this is an issue of simplifying of ways in mapsforge that takes place up to level 12.

Quote from: "tommi62"But there are vector maps available for Locus which show the map similar as on your right screenshot (I guess this is the online map picture).
You can get it here: http://www.openandromaps.org/en/download.html

Hi,

Even with this map there is a slight problem in the area of the railway station up to zoom level 12.
From zommlevel 13-21 the river is rendered correct.

Mapsforge ist _very_ unforgiving with the slightest errors concerning multipolygons....

However, I checked this relation in Josm and havnt found any errors.
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/1705913
Maybe someone more firm with Josm can check this? :(

Quote from: "Homer-S"Now to my question. Is there somewhere around some maps without the water bug? At least for hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia?
Thanks for your help

Hi,

These Maps, incl. contourlines, are available at http://www.openandromaps.org/en/download.html
However, if you download them direct to your phone be shure that you do not exeed your download allowance - the filesize for Malaysia/Indonesia is close to 1GB  ;)

Quote from: "tommi62"Will there be also maps for Germany and other maps (e.g. Canarian Islands) with hiking routes?
Hi I just added the canary islands, there are a lot of hiking ways tagged in OSM.

Hi Thomas,

The maps are available at the download area and can be identyfied by the [attachment=0:s3a3titw]hike24.png[/attachment:s3a3titw] icon.

The new resolving incl. hiking routes will be the standard one for European maps
and popular destinations.

Maybe I will release this too for great hiking ways like the appalachen trail aso.

However, I want to wait for bug-reports till I announce them on the news page
and resolve the bigger maps like Germany, France aso.

I, myself have'nt found any bugs - but.....  ;)

best regards
Christian

Hi,

There is a major update available for some European Maps  :!:

austria
corse (incl. full coverage of the famous GR20)
czech_republic
slovakia
Spain_Portugal
switzerland

now contain hiking routes (routes that are organized in relations).

The rendering is pretty much the same as for cycle routes,
cycle routes are rendered as dottet lines,
hiking routes are rendered as dashed lines.

There is a Version of Voilatile Theme available too for these maps.

The high contrast theme can be found here : http://www.openandromaps.org/files/them ... aps_hc.zip
it includes cycle and hiking ways and will be the standard theme from now on.

Here you see the Cycleroute "Donauradweg" + the famous hiking route "Jakobsweg"

Any comments and bugreports are highly apreciated.

Quote from: "dopt"Uploaded Austria maps from OpenAndroMaps to Oruxmaps. The screen comes up blank? Problem with the maps or problem with me?

Hi,

Its probably cause you are initial on zoomlevel 1, just zoom in several times and you see the map.

The problem is that, while I provide the correct parameter to set initial zoomlevel 8, virtualy no
App respects that setting.

Quote from: "capponz"Do you know what format Locus expects and how to get it out of an .osm file?
Like osmosis or something similar?

Hi Martin,

The format is mapsforge, here is the link to the mapsforge project.

Hi,

Go to

//http://www.openandromaps.org/en/download.html

and scroll down to the bottom of the page, there is the offline NZ-Map buildt with mapsforge.

Quote from: "menion"there exist something like 0.3.1? hmm ... do not see any on mapsforge site. So yes, I'm still on 0.3.0

Hi, Perfect !

Yes there is an unofficial Version (changes every day).
The reason why I ask: I'v found a minor bug rendering small islands (coastline consisting of one single polyline) and wanted to be shure that this is not because you changed the implementation.

thanks
